Stuart Todd & The Freebies

Newsletter – December 2009

Christmas is among us again, so just a word of thanks to everyone who made it to the launch gig at Studio 2 a few weeks ago. The launch party for the album was a success and the event was well attended.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved; Andy, Jason, Mark and Neil for backing me up on stage, as well as TAP UK, Rae Clark, Chris and John at Rooftop Audio, Cameron and the staff at Studio 2, Zara from 3rd Person Photography and of course Gareth for doing the door.

The CD is now selling in Probe Records on Slater Street, Liverpool for £4.99 and we’re in the process of selling it online. There are no engagements this month but there’s some dates coming up in the New Year so keep a look out.

I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Stuart Todd & The Freebies

Newsletter – November 2009

The album A Question Of Time is being launched this month. The rehearsals have been going well and the CD is currently in production. The launch party will be taking place in Studio 2 @ Parr Street, Liverpool on Monday 23rd November. Special guests will include Tap UK and Rae Clark. I’ll also be playing with my new band The Freebies.

Joining me for the gig will be producer and friend Andy Fernihough on bass, Jason Jones on electric guitar and Mark Brocklesby on drums. My former colleague and friend Neil Campbell will also be making a guest appearance. The start time for the gig will be 7:00pm. The admission is £5 on the door and includes a free copy of the CD. There’s also a £2 guest list for anyone who just wants to come down and see the gig. You can contact me via email, myspace, facebook or twitter to see about getting your name down. Studio 2 will also have a bar open.

Prior to the launch The Freebies will be playing the Picture House on Sunday 15th November and The Cavern on Saturday 21st November. We’ll also be playing Liverpool Acoustic Live @ The View Two Gallery on Friday 27th November. See the Liverpool Acoustic website for more details.

Newsletter - October 2009

The album is at last completed and I'm currently working on a sleeve design. The material was recorded with long time friend Andy Fernihough at Crash Studios in Liverpool. It’s just A Question Of Time before anyone gets to hear it. You can listen to one of the new recordings from the album on my profile.

As mentioned before Question is a retrospective debut album from one half of that infamous duo Campbell Todd (yes folks the ‘On my Todd’ gag has been well milked). Compared to the shenanigans my former colleague has recently been undertaking; (for example staging ‘A Night Opera’ in a bombed out church as well as an upcoming musical version of ‘Frankenstein’) I think you’ll agree that my activities have been rather modest in comparison.

This is reflected in the launch date for the gig, which will be taking place in Studio 2 @ Parr Street on Monday 23rd November. You might think this to be an odd night to stage such an event but with so much activity currently happening on the Liverpool music scene, I didn’t want this to clash too much with some of the other events (besides there’s no football on Mondays).

Also at the launch I will be playing with my new band The Freebies, (now don’t get me started on them). We’ve had a couple of personnel problems, nothing major but it’s taken us a while to get started, although I’m glad to say that we’ve now commenced rehearsals. On the gig front I’ve recently played a couple of solo spots. As always further dates will be announced for anyone who can be bothered. Needless to say most of the activity will be taking place in November.

Newsletter - September 2009

I recently supported Alun Parry at a successful launch for his album at The Casa. My next gig will be for the event Homegrown @ 3345, Parr Street on Thursday 1st October. Further dates will be announced over the next few weeks, so be sure to check for updates. I’m working on constructing an artist website, which should be online by the end of the month.

Meanwhile I’ve finished recording in the studio and have reached the stage of mixing and mastering the material. As previously mentioned,
the album is to be called A Question Of Time and is intended to be promoted as a retrospective. I’m currently locating a venue to launch the CD, which will be taking place sometime in November.

I’ve made the decision to form a band to back me up called The Freebies. The line up will feature my engineer and good friend Andy Fernihough on bass, Wayne Dineley on electric guitar and Mark Brocklesby on drums. We’ll be commencing rehearsals as a group within the next month. Wayne and Mark play on several tracks on the album, so I’m pleased to have them both on board.

Newsletter - August 2009

I'm currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to a compilation CD, which I’m planning to promote in the autumn. The album is going to be called
A Question Of Time and will comprise of thirteen tracks. The set will feature two new recordings, plus selections and remixes from the album Campbell Todd and my lone solo EP Playing the Field. There are also two bonus tracks that haven’t been included on CD before.

I’m also in the process of constructing a new artist website, which should be online within the next month or so. Further gigs will be announced soon, so watch this space.

On the subject of gigs, the only major one coming up this month is a support slot for Alun Parry and his CD launch @ The Casa on Friday 28th August. This event is in conjunction with
Liverpool Acoustic Live, which I help organise with Graham Holland.

Greetings folks,

This is a monthly newsletter to keep you informed of what's happening. I'm currently in the studio compiling a compilation, which is being launched in the autumn. The CD will feature two new recordings, plus selections and remixes from the infamous Campbell Todd album and my first solo EP Playing The Field.

Recently I supported the legendary folk fiddle player Dave Swarbrick @ The Palm House and will be supporting the not so legendary Alun Parry for his CD launch @ The Casa on Friday 28th August.

I also help organise and co-host Liverpool Acoustic Live with Graham Holland. Acoustic Live is a monthly event @ The View Two Gallery on Mathew Street. The next event takes place on Friday 24th July.

Campbell Todd will be playing their final gig together as part of Olde Time Religion in the Zanzibar on Saturday 26th April. After six years working together we’ve decided to call it quits. Neil and I have had some good times playing and recording together but other challenges now lay ahead.

For our last gig promoting the album we’ll be joined by our engineer Andy Fernihough on bass and Mark Brocklesby on drums.
For those who have come to see us play over the years, we would like to say a big thanks and hope you’ve enjoyed the music. Neil will continue his work with the Neil Campbell Collective, while I’ll be recording some new music.

The album ’Campbell Todd’ is still available in Zavvi on Clayton Square in Liverpool and the Green Fish/Domino Gallery on Upper Newington priced £6. You can also buy the CD online through CD baby.

Greetings folks,

The One Ball Rally / Breast Cancer Charity event I was meant to be playing on Wednesday 2nd April at 3345, Parr Street was cancelled at the very last minute, because the venue decided to show the Liverpool vs Arsenal football game instead.

The place had also been double booked. I only found this out on the night when I turned up at the venue to find out the gig had been cancelled. The event, in aid of breast cancer and testicular cancer research, was meant to feature numerous artists who were giving their time towards two worthy causes.

The line up was going to be
Barry Briercliffe
Bill Murray
Alun Parry
Matt Swift
Inside View
Thomas Joseph & Murphy
Lee Broderick
Rae Clark
Eddie Cooney
John Devine
Stuart Todd
Michelle Strahan
Karen Cleary
Tony Kehoe
Penny Nicholls
Stormy Corner

Barry Briefcliffe
and Matt Swift, who organised the event were entirely blameless in the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.

This is another example of a bar/venue putting profit before a persons life. The event was booked three months in advance, so this gig should have gone ahead. The 3345 have got alot to answer for and I hope they have the decency to apologise for their actions.

In fact I think a cheque for a few thousand pounds towards these charities would go a long way, after all it's only money at the end of the day.

Yours faithfully
Stuart Todd
