blog isn't a very compelling word is it. I like the word blurb better but it has too many conotations. So I'm sitting at home enjoying the few days I have here before I head off again to Melbourne for a few more gigs there and a couple of good friends getting married. If I was here for longer I might try to clean up the house a bit but the things that fill my days when i'm only home for a few, are attempting to resurrect the veggie patch that goes wild when I'm not here and making stupid amounts of tempeh and cheese. My older sister just taught me how to make cheese so i've been experimenting. The tempeh is a strange obsession coz for some unknown reason I want to make the perfect batch, so I keep trying different methods and different pulses to ferment. We end up with so much tempeh we could build a house with it. I've been writing a fair bit lately which is always an exciting time in the cycle...the rest of the time I mostly wonder if I've lost the ability to writie a song...or if I've just lost the inspiration but it seems the drought is as important as the flood. Maybe the tour of canada has had some latent inspiration...I didn't have a spare moment to write on that trip but now I'm home it seems to be flowing. I just played at Utribe Festival in Maleny and I had a couple of inspiring jams with some awesome players and it has totally reminded me of how good co creation can be and I'm itching to play in a full band setting again soon. Beck and I are touring together in WA in october so that'll be a good fix but I cant wait til we have a bass player and maybe a violin player too...hopefully next year. Anyway...love to you all

So I made it home from the snow....wow what an experience. Falls Creek was bucketing down and there was more powder there than in a Columbian jail...different powder though of course. The gigs were all good except the last one...I was so tired and I couldn't find the right songs to connect with the little crowd in this cocktail lounge.
I'm soaking up a week of time at home before I head off to the states and Canada. It's interesting what you go through leading up to a big trip to some place you've never been before. It's quite consuming yet I dont really know what I'm in for. Hopefully my Canadian visa comes through so I can play a gig or 2 over there!!!
Either way I cant wait ...I've wanted to visit Canada for so long and it'll be great to catch up with friends over there. yay!

I‘m up the top of Mount Buller in victoria right now....it’s so funny that this wouldn’t even constitute a carpark in some of the snow fields in Europe but this is some the most expensive snow in the world! It is actually snow though, and that does inevitably mean heaps of fun. I played a tiny little cafe in Albury last night called Electra Cafe...the food is absolutely divine (always has been in my experience) and although it was a last minute booking and I played to about five people...it was possibly the nicest crowd of five I’ve played for. There was dancing and singing which is a first for any gig I’ve played in Albury before! I’m at a little joint up here called Avalanche...I must admit I was expecting everything to be snooty and high brow but this places seems really casual and down to earth. I’m looking forward to playing here tonight...it’ll be interesting to see what kind of crowd rocks up here. ....time lapse....after gig..... This is a great place....all the people working here and loving life. It’s such a good vibe. I had a great gig.....after a couple of hours of playing heaps of my tunes, it degenerated into a covers singalong but I’m a sucker for such occasions!! Thanks Avalanche for having us!!

geez, I always thought I might be one the worlds biggest losers and I've just confirmed it for myself. I'm in sydney at the airport right now and thank god Carus got me into the qantas gold lounge so I can soak up the vibes of the privelaged while I lament my stupidity!!
I left my car in brissie yesterday at the airport thinking I'd be back today to get it, but I checked my flight details late last night to find that I'm flying to the gold coast instead! Yay! Anyway...the gig last night at the oxford arts centre was fun at least. We weren't graced with hoards of sydneys astute music lovers but those that joined us were lovely to say the least, and I loved Rennie Fields set...he's a gem.
I didn't get to play the latest cover I've leart...Britney's "hit me"...but that could be good thing?
I feel a bit of a scramble at the moment...so many things coming up that I cant get my head around. I'm in the snow next weekend in victoria which I cant wait for and then off to canada in august which again I cant wait for, but I've been having weird dreams about that part of the world so I know that internally I'm freaking out a bit. Isn't it funny how no matter how many new places you go to...a new place has this mystique in your mind that is a bit like a blurry painting, overlapping all the pre concieved ideas you have of a place that are mostly completely unrealistic!! I shall soon see.
I want to say thanks to all the people that have been supporting me. I do sometimes question this path I've chosen...it's such a rollercoaster ride. Success failure, up down, amped up...tired to the core. It's full on, but whenever I start to think I should save up to buy a towel so I can throw it in...someone expresses how much the music means to them...or I have a gig where everyones really into it and it all seems worthwhile. Anyway...thank you lovely people who come to the gigs and open your ears and hearts and minds....that's such a wonderful gift to give and I hope you equally appreciate what I give back in return.
I've been thinking I should be giving out more random songs and recipes and fun things through my mailing list.. so if you haven't signed up and you want some more stuff, you can at my website.. loren.com.au happy times to you all, loren

Wow, this myspace thing is like a great big net gathering. I've only just been able to log on. I've been enjoying some home time. My house is solar powered which is so good but I cant sit on the computer too long or the power runs out, so I haven't visited this site for months. It is such a good way to connect up muso's and music lovers from all over the place.
I've been playing with some recipes for a recipe book that Bez, my manager, and I are going to make. I need to get out on tour to work off some of the excess!! I will be off soon though to record another album, this time with my brother, my sister and Beck (the percussionist who's been touring with me). After that I'll be heading out with Carus around Australia supporting another solo acoustic tour and then we'll take it to europe for a few weeks over there....I'm really looking forward to it, it's alway a pleasure touring with Carus.
So hopeully we'll have some more offerings to the listening community before the year is out... and some recipes to play with. woo hoo, loren
