Yes, we had plans of releasing the new project this summer, but things got a little held up, as they will do around here. Progress has been made during the studio time we can schedule at our in-house Tone Zone Studio, but it's still going to be a while, folks - we're very sorry! We have hopes for Spring 2010, but no promises yet. The project will be titled Home and we're really looking forward to sharing the new material with you. Until then, we hope to see you at some shows, where we'll still get jiggy with it, as the youts say (maybe a decade ago, Gramma). Okay! Let us know you're out there, and keep your eyes peeled.

Blessings,

The Crossing

The Crossing started up Sunday recording for a new
CD at Grrr's Tone Zone Studio, with a hopeful release
date around late spring or early summer 2009.
Consistent with past recording patterns, it's been five
years since their last release Standing Stones, so fans
of theirs will be pleased at the coming of the next,
as yet untitled. Watch the Grrr home page for more
info.

We're on our way to play in Lynchburg VA for a show tomorrow night.  The glow of Tony's booklight and Mark's Sudoku game look like Northern Lights on the inside roof of the van.  From the front is the distant glow of the stereo, and in between songs on my MP3 player, I can hear October Project blaring from the front speakers.  Rick always plays October Project at least once on every Crossing trip.  I'm laying on my seat listening to Calexico and Leo Kottke, just enjoying my time to relax.  I think Mark beat us all at Slug Bug today, though I'm sure Rick would argue.  Jennifer is doing some knitting on another project of some sort...I think she's making a sweater this time...she said she's working on a sleeve...she said she likes working on sleeves...
We arrived at the infamous Red Roof Inn in Charleston, West Virginia around 10 pm, and saw all these dumpsters around the parking lot at scattered locations, full of mattresses, with mattresses leaning on the sides of some of them.  We were worried for a minute, until we realized that the Red Roof Inn was in the middle of renovations.  Nothing like new carpet and new mattresses at a Red Roof Inn. Another drive well navigated by Hilde.  Way to go, Bialach!
Well, we gotta drive 200 more miles tomorrow, so goodnight.
Blessings, Eric

as of September 27th, 2006 Grrr Records is now going to maintain this site.- Thank you to Gary Z.

for getting it going he is awesome.  Marty-Grrr Records

NOTE: The Crossing's MySpace site is currently maintained by a fan (that's me!). All concert and recording updates are based on public information retrieved from the Grrr Records web site and/or The Crossing's official web site.

The first time I recall seeing The Crossing was in the mid-eighties. My wife and I were attending a worship service at JPUSA in Chicago and The Crossing was the special music for the day. They sang "What Will Ye Do?" and it totally floored me (the only thing that ever came close was when Hallowed Ground covered the Violent Femmes "Jesus Walking on the Water" and I said to my wife: "The FEMMES! In church?!! No way!!")

Now, this was before Look Both Ways was released, and I don't think the band at that time was even planning on recording an album - much less playing for 20-plus years in churches, concert venues and festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe!

But I'm getting ahead of myself...

When I first saw The Crossing I had had little exposure to Celtic music. My initial impression was: "Wow! They sound just like Jethro Tull!" (although Fairport Convention was probably a closer approximation).

But just as Led Zeppelin introduced me to the urban and pre-war Blues artists from whom they were shamelessly borrowing; The Crossing opened me to all things Celtic, including the music of The Chieftains, The Irish Rovers and The Clancy Brothers as well as an interest in Celtic history and culture.

Unlike Led Zeppelin, however, The Crossing has always performed their music with a deep respect and honor of the Celtic people and culture from which they draw their inspiration. They are well-aquainted with the roots of their music, and they make a point of educating their audience in every concert.

If you've never heard The Crossing before, you're in for a treat. I hope you get to see them live some time, preferably at an outdoor event like Cornerstone Festival (it's worth the price of admission just to see the dancers outside the Gallery Tent!)

And if you're already a fan of The Crossing then you already know what I'm talking about.

Mòran taing --- many thanks!

On behalf of The Crossing,

Gary Z.
