its been awhile since i have updated this page, but now is the time to let some cats out of their bags....etc
i am finalizing plans with dpulse/fontana/universal for production schedule on the full package release, and follow-up to Crashing Gates, tentatively titled COTES D' ARMOR.....this will put me back in the studio for 4 brand new tracks!!!!, plus possible remix on the earlier tracks made available digital only through Crashing Gates EP...this full length will also be made digital as well as distributed internationally as a packaged product....we have been writing and for now the new tracks to be recorded include: Dancing in English Churches Walking through Walls (just to get to you) On Yer Bike! I Am A Magnet
we will be at SXSW this year officially!......at this time no shows have been booked during the week, but i will be attending some of the shows, as dpulse/Universal will undoubtedly want me there next year to support the full length project.
lastly, amanda has come along and is nearing the final month with our latest Max baby.....everyone is doing great and are healthy and happy......pictures at some point....

facebook is a great place to really connect with friends, but it is slowly becoming a more social networking environment (ie) myspace and friendster.....seems my allegiance to Obama really set things off yesterday, as many christian people were throwing daggers at everyone....myself included....being a believer, i consider being somewhat understanding at first, but when i have to, i can get pretty confrontational.....alot of interesting questions were raised in our debate, but after someone mentioned that i was aligning myself with a 'BABY KILLER", i had to make my stand on everything that is happening today....i am decidedly ANTI- ABORTION, but that is only one of the reasons i questioned Obama....in the end, after reviewing all the choices, he seemed like a natural born leader.....not killer, and one capable of producing real change in the country......this is a statement i wrote in response on facebook yesterday-
"'again, as many of you that 'know' me, should know that i think America has fallen away from anything coming close to 'greatness'...but as richard and brad have said, i hold out hope that God will work on the heart of Obama....as he can with any man or woman.....Billy Graham was always on the trail to the White House and did not show special preference towards Demo or Republican....he got slammed for being Ecumenical...but it is the heart of Christ, that believes in the good of each human being, and is waiting for any chance for that change to take place......let's not hate, but come together, over an imperfect leader......it goes back to biblical times when the chosen people cried out for a King to lead them.....God didn't necessarily want that for them, but He conceded, and here we are.' As many of you know, i have always been interested in acting and film.....in my years of singing with dctalk and as a solo artist, pseudo poet, and keyboardist, music has taken the lead role ...but acting has always been my 'thorn in the side' passion.......i have always felt like i had the goods.....not necessarily because of my looks or charisma, but the technique it takes to look beyond yourself, and possess something else...it has been a weird attraction for me....and i have always been amazed that very few others hold that quality of 'art' in their performances.....that is what we all are in the entertainment industry.....performers.....so with that, i pleed my case, that Acting can be Art as well.... Early on, probably around the mid 70's i realized the power of acting, and film.....i think it was probably The Exorcist and Star Wars, that made cinema, almost magic to me.....i know that before the 70's, films were made that set the blueprint....but being born in 1967, i had to begin with something, before rewinding.....it wasn't until the around 1983, i was a sophomore in highschool, that i realized fully, the talents of James Dean.....being from Grand Rapids Michigan, and growing up on a hobby farm (my father was an accountant, but the son of a farmer)....mean't that living in the cultural elitist circles was more than a stones throw away....but i had an appetite for the 'weird' and the 'fascinating'....my favorite music in the mid 80's was The Smiths and Echo and The Bunnymen.....in my smallish christian highschool on the outskirts of town, i was regarded as a 'strange one'.....i was active in sports, but my passions ran to theatre and music....i was popular, but only because of my individual qualities.....not because i could hit the ball the farthest.....it wasn't until i sang a solo in the highschool choir in front of a thousand people at an Easter Musical, that i was 'noticed'......but in my mind, i was already developing a character, and that character was based on James Dean, more than Bono or David Bowie....acting was going to be put on hold in my life, even though i was active in theatre and plays throughout highschool and early college, music was what i was known for...... College came at me fast, and i was pushed in the direction of Christian college by my parents....Liberty was a school that a family friend in Grand Rapids had visited, and her opinion of it was the catalyst......her father was our family doctor, and she made a convincing argument, saying that there was a boy she knew that had a band that was looking for a singer....etc etc...and that the school itself, was the fasted growing Christian college in the nation.....at the time, i knew nothing of Falwell and his beliefs....so with blinders on i approached Liberty University with a calm disinterest.... in my first semester i was in a play about Joseph and won the lead.....but my singing with the start-up christian rock band 'Connection', overshadowed the acting again....i was kicked out the next semester for drinking off campus, and went home to face the music with my parents.....it was a hard summer, as i worked odd jobs around Grand Rapids...2 of which, i was fired from, within weeks....after a harsh conversation with my father about my future, i decided to return to Liberty and finish what i started. That returning semester i met Toby and Micheal and the dctalk story began.....it wasn't until i decided to push forward into a solo career in 2000, that the interest for acting crept up again....i was given another opportunity for it in mid 2004, after moving to Los Angeles and performing residences at the Viper Room, on Sunset Strip, that i was approached by my booking agency CAA, to be the lead in a play about Joseph again.....this time the Andrew Webber classic, The Technicolor Dreamcoat.....i would drive 4 hours every weekend to Visalia California, where the theatre company was located....i eventually performed in the role for a month, and learned so much about the techniques that had been dormant for so long....i made a decision that acting would be a part of my future as much as the music....but it would be some time again until i could actually begin the process. After 2 independent music releases in Los Angeles, and much touring, i slowed down a bit, and found the love of my life......we had our first child together in Beverly Hills Cedar's hospital and began the dream of family.....with a change in lifestyle, it became apparent to both of us that Los Angeles did not bring the financial gain that we needed to buy a house, and with another child on the way, we decided to move back to Nashville. Back in Nashville, i have been placed back in a fishbowl, looking like a different fish then when i had left it in early 2003.....i had 2 kids, and 1 soon on the way.....we had not been in the Christian music industry for years, and nobody knew what i had been up to.....but as things happen, i landed my first film role, sitting in our rental home in Hermitage TN.....The Imposter gave me the moment that i had waited for.....but i was not physically ready for it.....sitting at home and being a daddy had put a few pounds on me and the acting skills were rusty.....but that month of filming outside of Dallas Tx, gave me the hunger for my 'weird attraction' in the art of film.....The Imposter was never what i imagined my first 'dip in the pool' would be like.....but it was a vehicle to get the blood flowing.....since, i have been working on my body and mind, and i am fascinated still by the lack of 'Art" in acting......but all of this summary brings me to my subject focus..... My heroes in the acting field of been obvious ones....but, they are to be studied and pondered because there are not many like them, even today... James Dean, Marlon Brando, Robert Deniro, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day Lewis....and Mickey Rourke. i found an interesting article on Mickey, which mirrors my story in some ways, and i thought it would be of interest to those, who know me.....once in awhile, the opportunity for a 'Phoenix from the Flames" becomes center stage....and Acting becomes Art.

thanks to everyone for sending me comments and messages......i am doing ok.....just a couple of bumps and bruises and a back that feels like meatloaf (not the singer)....what happened in brief- i was en route to studio for mixes in Land Rover, for some reason i looked down to see if i had gotten a call on my phone, looked up and a minivan appeared right in front of me......i cut hard to the right in the direction of the embankment but rear ended mini van......don't ask how she put on her brakes that fast, but she did......i have been driving Hillsboro road for over 15 years and have never gotten in a fender bender...so, life being life....the driver was not hurt and she was very kind....my rover took a beating, as did i.....i was not wearing my seat belt which threw me around a bit....so i learned my lesson....watch for madly braking soccer moms, and wear your seatbelt....so not Rock and Roll.
