Category: Music

Hi MySpace friends,

My shoes squeak. As we walk around our neighborhood on our afternoon strolls cats hide, small children cover their ears, and dogs howl in reply. Well, maybe it's not that bad, but it is pretty annoying. I can't sneak up on anything. That squeak has been reminding me of all the changes we have coming (the least of which will be a new pair of shoes). I want to be ready. Awake with my eyes open. Ready for the experience, and listening for the "squeak" of what's coming. I don't want these changes to sneak up on me, but I still want to be surprised every once and awhile too. Spring has finally come to our beautiful corner of Minneapolis. As we drove back from performances in Iowa this weekend we could see the greening happen before our eyes. The weekend rains brought tree buds on our maple that weren't there on Friday.

It's been far too long since I last wrote. A lot has happened and it seems as though the world has turned more times than it aught. We traded in our beloved VW van! It's odometer was just past the range of trinitarian perfection (333,333+)… plus it needed new brakes, tires, and struts on top of the recently added ball joints and tie rods. We are now the proud owners of a completely forgettable Honda Odyssey. At least the name of the minivan is cool… yikes! I own a minivan! Our friend Dani had to remind us, "you are not your vehicle" as we drove together to our first performances in South Dakota with the new van in February. Yes, I know she's right, but I do miss that big box on wheels… we grew a lot in that big box. I admit, there are a few nice features in the Honda. The road noise is so much less than in the Eurovan that I find my voice rarely gets tired. Aimee and I read out loud a lot while the other person is driving. We often switch drivers not because one of us is tired of driving but because one of us is tired of reading out loud and we need to conserve our voices for the show that evening.

We have a lot of reading ahead of us. I've estimated that we will put at least 14,000 miles onto our new van between June and the end of August. That's around 155 miles a day! Once again this summer we will be hitting all of the coasts. We will be in New Orleans (the Gulf coast… twice!), North Dakota (the Canadian coast), Oregon, California, and New York. I will add our tour schedule to the end of this newsletter. We still have a number of openings this spring in the midwest, and we are looking for folks to host us on the west coast in August. Let me know if you would like to host a Tangled Blue concert in your community.

One of the other changes for us this spring has been a re-thinking of how we do our live performance. In the last month we sold four of our six speaker cabinets and our power amps. The Honda is significantly smaller than the VW, so our huge 77 pound Mackie speakers (which sounded awesome) needed to go. After a lot of research and listening we finally settled on some powered Cerwin-Vega speakers that are one third of the size and half of the weight of our old speakers, and unlike a lot of small cabinet speakers still sound warm and powerful. This weekend's performances were the first with the new gear, and we can once again see out of the rear view mirror while driving!

To say that this past month has been quiet would be true (and good) though it can be a little nerve racking for someone who makes a living out of movement. We are realizing that being performers and song writers in this economy is going to look different than it did over the last five years. As we've been talking with some of our long-time hosts about the costs they incur while putting on an event we realized that many of our hosts rent lights and sometimes spend thousands of dollars in rental fees. I started looking into the prices and realized that we could purchase a lighting system, offer an additional service to our hosts, add some additional revenue on our end and reduce some expenses for our hosts who would normally rent these lighting systems from someone else at a much greater rate. Win-Win! In the coming month we are looking to invest in a lighting system before our summer tour kicks into full swing. Any thoughts? Do you have experience with this stuff? I need your help. It's all new to me… a lot has changed since my days in college theater. I've been looking into running a set of light-weight, efficient LED lights via software like Qlab (http://figure53.com/qlab/) or a Show Controller from a company called Alien Apparatus (http://www.alienapparatus.com/)… no joke, that's the name. Just a quick survey… If you host concerts in your church or plan events for your community, do you usually rent a lighting system? If not, would you be interested in paying a little more to have a lighting system? How much would you be willing to pay for a well lit concert (versus a concert under florescent lights or whatever)? I'm wondering because I have no idea what an acceptable rate is for providing this service and my goal is to make it a win-win, not just a reason for us to charge more to the folks who have supported us all these years by hosting us in their communities. More research is needed...

Speaking of new ventures, we have a couple more in our near future. In the next month we will be making a recording of camp songs for the camp I attended as a kid in northern Wisconsin (http://campluther.com/). It really feels like a path that's come full circle. Group singing around a camp fire was a huge influence on my childhood, and I'm really looking forward to creating a recording of songs that are sung around those same fires these days! We hope to have the recording finished by late May and available for purchase in June.

The on-going house concert series that we run in our living room is going really well. We call it the Victory Muse; more information is athttp://victorymuse.com/. We've hosted three concerts so far with 20 to 35 folks at each show. Our next concert is on May 9th and will feature the music of Caroline and Chris Wigmore. In June Aimee and I will be the performers for the first time. We are going to do this June installment of the Victory Muse a bit differently. We are going to record these concerts for an upcoming Tangled Blue Live recording. Want to sit in on a live concert recording? The dates are Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th. We can only comfortable fit about 25 folks in our living room, so an RSVP will be required. You can send your RSVP to rsvp@victorymuse.com.

One last bit of news and a request… our 2003 self titled Tangled Blue recording is finally available on iTunes. The link to both of our recordings on iTunes is obnoxiously long but functional; it is http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=295182890&uo=6

Over the past six months as our Advent recording has been for sale on iTunes I've noticed an interesting little pattern of folks downloading our recording of "Lo, He Comes With Clouds Descending" from the U.K. iTunes store. We don't know anyone in the U.K. but somewhere along the way someone found our music and recommended it to their friends. iTunes makes sharing our music easy with the "tell a friend" link on each page within the store. We'd really appreciate your help in promoting our recordings online.

Thanks for your support of us and our music, and walking with us through these days. We hope to see you soon!

Under the Mercy,

Joel

Tangled Blue - Tangled Blue

Our first recording is finally up on lala.com. It should be up on iTunes in the coming week!

Current mood:  tired
Hello MySpace Friends,

It seems like forever since I last wrote, but it’s only been seven weeks! So much has happened. We generally slow down in December and have fewer performances. It was true this December... very, very true. We had our CD release concert at a venue in our neighborhood, The Warren. What a great night! We can’t wait until the next time we get to perform at The Warren. On December 19th we started our trip east for a performance in northern Ohio. At about 10 p.m. that evening, while driving through the western Chicago ‘burbs our van’s serpentine belt broke and side lined us on the interstate. Thankfully, we were close to our friend Bill Yonker. He was able to recommend a mechanic and put us up for the night... thank you, thank you, thank you, Bill! On Saturday we secured a rental mini-van, packed as many of our instruments as we could and continued east. Sitting in a cold van on the interstate for two hours while waiting for the tow truck on Friday evening was not a healthy thing for me. I was already starting to feel ill, and by the time we set up for our Sunday evening concert my voice was completely gone. I’ve only lost my voice once before this, and I find it to be a bit terrifying. Whatever it was that I picked up stuck with me for weeks. Being the sharing type, and since it was the giving season, I shared my sickness with both Aimee and her parents while we were visiting for Christmas.

The rest of December and much of January was spent recovering from the hyper cold / flu thingy and working on the audio mixes for some other bands we’ve been recording in our home. We’ve had a very quiet start to 2009. It’s been good to have the time off from the stage to bring our voices back to health. Thankfully, the recording / mixing work for Sibling Harmony and Jonathan Rundman has helped keep my ears open and the bills paid.

Changes come...

I turned 35 a couple weeks ago. We celebrated the event by inviting my parents to our place for a weekend of painting, fixture hanging, and window fixing. Man, do we know how to party! ...or as the forth most popular folk parody duo in New Zealand would say “they like to rock the party!” The back two bedrooms and upstairs bathroom are finally done and we’ve actually hung two pictures (something we’ve never done in any of the houses we’ve lived in over the past seven years)!

As I write this our VW van is getting new ball joints and tie rods. With two major repairs in one month, we realize the time is coming for us to find our next tour vehicle. Our 2001 VW Eurovan has gone 331,000 miles! Until recently, most of the mechanical issues we had with the van were covered by the first 100,000 mile warranty. It’s still a bit boggling that VW never tuned the fuel injectors on our German made van for North American fuel, but Volkswagen did cover all of the work. In the first year that we owned the van it had so many fuel injector issues that we were one repair away from being able to legally declare it a “lemon”. Since that first year (and since we stopped taking the van to VW dealers and starting having it serviced by knowledgeable, independent mechanics who have a passion for VW vans), it’s been smooth sailing, and it’s been great to not have a monthly vehicle payment for the last four years! So what will be the next tour vehicle? We don’t know. VW no longer sells their Eurovan in North America. We’ve been pretty unimpressed with most mini-vans, and we are considering some significant changes to our live performances that will allow us to travel with less music gear. Got a vehicle recommendation for us? Send it our way. We need some advise.

This past weekend we started a new tradition in our life. We are calling it the Victory Muse. It’s a house concert series that we are hosting in our living room. On Saturday evening 30 folks knocked on our door and hung out for an evening of music by Blaine and Leah Howard, Micah Taylor and Nate Houge (the opening act), and Russell Munson. It is a realization of a dream to be able to host this community event in our house. It’s one of the reasons we bought a house and didn’t continue our vagabond ways... now we are only part-time vagabonds. If you are interested in coming to the next Victory Muse (Micah and Nate will be the main act) you can get more information at http://victorymuse.com. The Facebook page for the Victory Muse is http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Victory-Muse/45310807114

Well, that’s all the time I have for today. Tomorrow we leave for a couple days in Bismarck, North Dakota. We are sharing the stage tomorrow evening with our good friends George and Michael, also known as Lost And Found. We get to see them too rarely, and it’s been years since we’ve shared the stage... I think Florida in 2002 may have been the last time. They are two of the best entertainers we know, and they are great guys. If you live close to Bismarck I hope you can join us for an evening of music that you won’t soon forget. From Bismarck we drive to Pittsburgh. That’s right, Pittsburgh (20 hours of driving in roughly 36 hours time). One of the rewards for all of that driving will be sharing the stage with Rob Ticherich. You can hear Rob’s drumming on three of the songs on the Advent CD. From Pittsburgh we go to Sioux Falls; from Sioux Falls, SD to Huron, OH; From Ohio to North Dakota... really, I try to make our tours make more geographical sense, but it never seems possible. We are looking forward to all of our 2009 tours. Thanks for inviting us into your communities, car stereos, and iPods. We hope to see you soon!

Under the Mercy,
Joel

Category: Music
Hi,
OK, so I've received a number of comments on my waxing poetic in the
last newsletter... here I go again... "wax on, Daniel-son, wax
on..."

The Concordia Christmas concert was great! I reconnected with a
number of old friends (great seeing you again Jen, and Dave, and
Keith, and Steve, and Jason, and John, and insert name here _______
in case I've forgotten you). I expected that I would see folks from
my college years and relive a few memories, but it's the unexpected
that really moves, really grabs hold and shakes me into something
dizzyingly new. The concert concluded with two familiar selections
"It Came A Flow'ret Bright" and "E'en So Lord Jesus Quickly Come".
The first tune is a well know Christmas song, the latter is a well
known tune in Concordia circles written by Paul Manz, a former
professor. It's a song that every Concordia choir has learned for
many years. Back in my college years it was a rare concert when we
didn't end with "E'en So" and alumni will often join in the singing
(this alum included). Last Friday night I could not. I was too taken
in surprise by the music and the moment that all I could do was take
in the air through my slack jaw and enjoy the pricklies running up my
spine and the tear gathering at the rim of my eye. Dr. Mennicke (the
aforementioned Dave who is choir director, former professor, and
friend) had placed the two songs on top of each other so that the
ending of "Flow'ret" grew into "E'en So" without much more than a
breath. And in that moment, that passing breath, I was transported to
a Tenebrae service that I was singing in, with that choir in
California many years ago. It was the end of the service; all of the
lights were off, and it was completely black. We, as a choir, held
hands (I do not remember if we held each other out of instinct or
instruction from Dave). I was glad for the touch of another and glad
for the darkness that hid my wet cheeks as we sang. And then I was
back. Sitting in my chair at the concert with Aimee next to me and
the smell of a Pacific sea breeze in my head... later that night (in
California, all those years ago) a group of us would jump in a car
and drive down Highway One, stopping around Huntington Beach to
stretch in the cool, salty air under a dark sky.

For me, Advent is a season of timelessness. It's the past (the
Pacific ocean air pushing past the beach I'm on in 1996) colliding
with the present (a choir concert on a snowy night in 2008) and
creating something new (a future that is here, and now, and still
connected to where we've been). And the catalyst for this collision
is unexpectedness. If I had guessed that I might relive that specific
experience last Friday evening and attempted to produce the pricklies
that made the goose bumps on my forearms, it never would have
happened. I would have never enjoyed an ocean breeze in a concert
hall in Minnesota. I needed that unexpected transition between two
familiar pieces of music to bring it all together and create a new
experience. Well, I could probably wax on indefinitely about the
theologic and scientific principles of the unexpected, but
(thankfully) we have the Spirit and super colliders for that... This
Friday Aimee and I will have the official CD release concert for our
Advent CD. We are really looking forward to it! Not only will Friday
night give us an opportunity to introduce folks to the music of our
friends Blaine and Leah Howard (they will open up the evening with a
few of their tunes) but our friends Christy and Lars Carlson have
agreed to help us make the evening special by providing fresh
desserts and hot beverages (whether you are a warm apple crumble with
fresh whipped cream and a steaming mug of mulled cider person, or a
homemade fudge and coffee person, the Carlsons will have it covered).
You should come... really, it will be fun. We will also be performing
at Concordia in St. Paul on Thursday and sitting in on a class with
Dr. Rich Carter. Rich has asked us to share music or experience with
his classes before and it is always a new, unexpected, and
wonderfully unscripted experience. All of our upcoming shows are
listed below. We still have a number of openings in January. Let us
know if we can come and play a few songs in your community.

One last note... still waxing on. We've just received our new
download cards from the printers. For those of you who prefer to hold
your music on an MP3 player or if you know someone who does, our new
download cards have all of the same songs as the CD at a price of $10
per card. Both our original Tangled Blue CD and the new Advent CD can
be purchased as download cards. They make a great stocking or
Christmas card stuffer. We will send all orders via Priority USPS
mail which should arrive by Dec.24th. if we receive your order by
Dec. 18th. You can purchase download cards and CDs in the store at
tangledblue.com or with our order form at
http://www.tangledblue.com/order.pdf

OK, one more last note... enough Daniel-son! It's wax on, wax off...
not wax on, and on, and on... In the past couple weeks a friend sent
me a link to a great little site... adventconspiracy.org. The
promotional video is great! And it's a great reminder (even for me as
a musician who makes a living by selling my works... did I mention
that we now have our tunes on digital download cards for only $10?)
that the coming holi-day is not about the strings of lights and
wrapping paper, but it's about the Gift. As Bill Mallonee wrote in
his song "Drunk on the Tears":

"Don't miss the truth for a stupid side show
Don't confuse the cup with the contents it holds...
It's been my staple for so many years
It's hard to taste the wine when your drunk on the tears"

Look up my friends! Heaven is coming to earth! In an unexpected form,
in a child, in Jesus. The past, the present, and the future are
colliding and the impact will change us (it already has, and this
change is still working It's way through us). We hope to see you
soon. waxing off...

Under the Mercy,
Joel

Hello friends, Here is the newsletter I sent last night...

It's past midnight... well past midnight. Much thanks was given this past day. The turkey made me sleepy. The two cups of coffee afterward re-wired me and now I am the only one awake in a house that creeks as it protests against a stiff northern wind. The furnace has just turned on, and I am a bit annoyed by the sound as it replaces the howl of the wind making a far less interesting and far more mechanical drone... but I am thankful to have heat, and a roof, and a full stomach, and the friendly faces that filled the day. It's been another fine week of performances in Pennsylvania and Ohio. This past weekend we performed at a youth gathering in Northwestern Pennsylvania and had a number of conversations about the cross-roads of justice and commerce. For the past few years Aimee and I have been more intentional about learning where the stuff we buy comes from and how our purchases impact (or don't impact) the lives of the people who make what we use. It's been a good journey so far; it's helped me be more thankful for what I have and appreciate the work that goes into what I often take for granted.

We are staying with Aimee's folks in Ohio through the weekend, then back to our home in Minneapolis. I am looking forward to a number of things when we get home like decorating a Christmas tree (something we haven't done in years due to our travel schedule) and attending a Christmas concert by the choirs I sang with in college (also something I've missed for many years due to a travel schedule that's kept me far from St. Paul in early December... who books these tours anyway?).

This Friday, December 12th will be a special evening; we hope you can join us to celebrate the release of our Advent CD and enjoy some music. Aimee and I are performing a CD release concert on December 12th at 7:00pm at the The Warren - An Artists Habitat, in Minneapolis. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased in advance via PayPal at tangledblue.com. The Warren is a little venue in our neighborhood. It only holds 60 people, and we hope to pack the place. Warm beverages and desserts will be served and the evening will start with some music from our friends Blaine and Leah Howard. The Howard's
are truly gifted musicians, and we know you are going to love their songs. It's been years since Blaine and I shared a stage, and I am really looking forward to it! We also have a mid-day performance at Concordia University in St. Paul on December 11th and an afternoon concert in Lorain, Ohio on December 21st. All of these shows will feature the new Advent songs, so we hope you can join us.

Well, my coffee buzz is finally starting to wear thin. Thanks for
reading and being part of our community... really, I mean it. Without you we'd be be singing into the wind without a roof, or noisy furnace, or tryptophan soaked head... we'd still have our heads, but we would be too busy looking for our next meal (in a VW van that has an odometer now reading over 328,000 miles!) to have time for this luxury of music. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Under the Mercy,
Joel
joel@tangledblue.com

PS - I've added a new page to our web site with a press release and press photos for the Advent CD; more will be added soon. The address is simply http://www.tangledblue.com/press

PSS - The Advent CD is now on iTunes! A search for "tangled blue advent" within the iTunes store will get you to the tunes.

Hi Friends, just a quick note to let you know that our new CD is now on iTunes. I've also uploaded another full track for folks to stream on our Facebook and MySpace pages. "Leaving Minnesota" was a really fun song to record. We hope you like it. With all of the snow flying around the Dakotas, it seems like a fitting soundtrack for tonight. Let us know what you think! -Joel

I am writing this to you as Aimee drives north to Jamestown. The CDs
have been sent! The 605 bubble wrapped envelopes were passed off to
the post office over the course of the last couple weeks. If you
ordered our new Advent CD you should have received it, or it should
be arriving within the next day or two. A few CDs have come back to
us due to moves or incorrect addresses... if you know how to reach
Holly Miller in ND, Jeff Herreid in SD, Carlos in MN, or Meghan and
Paul in CO please help us connect with these folks so we can get
their CD to them.

CDBaby.com now has the Advent CD in their catalog. CD Baby also has a
download option for those of you who prefer to download the new songs
you can save a few bucks and get the music right away. The Advent CD
has also been sent to iTunes and a number of other digital music
sites; it should show up in those digital stores in a week or two. We
have updated our store at tangledblue.com so purchases can be made
there as well. You can listen to samples, order/download the songs,
and write a review of the new tunes at
http://cdbaby.com/cd/tangledblue2

We have a number of performances in the Dakotas, Ohio, Pennsylvania
and Minnesota in the coming weeks. I will post the details at the end
of this note. We also have a few openings in our schedule. If you
would like to schedule a Tangled Blue concert in your community, let
us know.

A couple of you have called or emailed your thoughts on the new songs
in the past week. Thanks for all of the kind words. We love to hear
how the music is hitting your ears. Thanks for making us part of your
day. We hope to see you soon!

Under the Mercy,
Joel

Our van is about to cross over the 320,000 mile mark, and one of our trusted mechanics (Stew at the Foreign Service) just diagnosed it with early onset alzheimers... the ABS light lights up every 400 to 500 miles, but the van's computer doesn't register any problems. Stew thinks it's a simple case of dementia. Nothing to worry about, but we are still looking for the next Tangled Blue tour vehicle. What follows is the newsletter I sent to our mailing list last week. I hope this finds you well. -Joel

Hi,

It's done! Really! Really, Really! We handed the finalized artwork
and master CD over to our friends at Noiseland Industries yesterday afternoon. In a couple weeks we will have the first batch of new CDs in our eager hands. For those of you who have already ordered the new CD, we will be putting it in the mail right away. We've had over 600 copies pre-ordered, so the post office is going to love us! If you've recently moved, or if you want to check and make sure we have your correct address, please shoot me an email in the coming week. If you haven't yet ordered the new CD, now is the time to do so. After next week I will be taking down the pre-order sale that gives folks a CD-R of live recordings of Tangled Blue in addition to the Advent CD... that's two recordings for twelve bucks... why do I suddenly feel like a home shopping network host? Anyway, we will also be raising the price of our physical CDs to $15 in the coming weeks and offering a new digital download option for $10. That's the scoop. In recognition of finally finishing the CD I've posted another new tune to our Facebook page. You can go to tangledblue.com and click the "Tangled Blue on Facebook" link to get to our Facebook page. The tune is called "Parade". It was one of the first songs written for the Advent CD. I remember writing it in the back bedroom of that Menomonie, Wisconsin farmhouse, surrounded by the two-tone purple shag carpeting
on a cool morning. I knew there was something special to this tune, but I would have never guessed that it would take four years for the rest of the recording to fall into place... or that during those four years we would move to Minnesota with a two year stop in Texas... crazy!

We still have a few openings in our fall tour schedule. I will post our upcoming performances and openings at the end of this email. Thanks for being part of our community. We hope to see you soon!

Hi friends,

This is just a quick note to let you know that THE CD IS DONE! THE CD IS DONE! THE CD IS DONE!!!!! I finished the final mix right before we left for our current tour (New Orleans and New York, because we like to torture ourselves with endless miles in the VW van!). As a way to promote our new Facebook page, I've posted the first track from the new CD there. You can go there now and listen to it! I will be posting a few more of the new songs there over the next couple weeks, so if you sign up to be a fan of Tangled Blue on Facebook I will be able to notify you when I've uploaded a new song. The page address for Tangled Blue on Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tangled-Blue/6885419450

For those of you who pre-ordered the Advent CD it will still be a couple weeks before you have it in your hands. The artwork needs to be finished and then it needs to be printed, but it is on it's way! You will be the first folks to hear all of the songs in their entirety, and I can't wait to hear what you think... I've started a discussion on the lyrics to the first song on our Facebook page. What follows is part of that discussion. Thanks for sticking with us as we've worked on these new songs. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the new tune.

Under the Mercy,
Joel

Here are the lyrics to the first track on the new Advent CD. You can stream it from our Tangled Blue facebook page. Hope you like it... we do! Let me know what you think. -Joel

The Days Are Coming (Isaiah 2:1-5, 62:10-12, 63:16-17, 64:1-8; Jeremiah 33:14-16)

The days are coming:
when the voice of justice will be heard
The days are coming:
from a righteous branch, a sprout of David.
The days are coming:
the sky will rip and every nation quake.
The days are coming:
we will see the end of war.

Raise up a banner for the nations.
The Lord has made a proclamation.
Raise up a banner for the nations.
The Lord has made a proclamation.

The days are coming:
I will fulfill the promises I made.
The days are coming:
in these days, yes you will be saved.
The days are coming:
defuse the bomb and bend the sword.
The days are coming:
we will see the end of war.

Raise up a banner for the nations.
The Lord has made a proclamation.
Raise up a banner for the nations.
The Lord has made a proclamation.
See, your Savior, He is coming,
He is seeking, He is finding.

Justice for the child soldier and the cooperate C.E.O.
Justice for the president and captives in Guantanamo.
Justice for the perps and police and the people on the street.
Justice for those who run away; justice for those who seek.
Justice for the motherless and the widow.
Justice for those who reap what they did not sow.
Justice for the natives and for the alien.
Justice for the righteous and for those who live with sin.

The burden of proof will be lifted
Proof will come in the air we breathe
A Savior for all peoples
Whose rule will never end

Raise up a banner for the nations.
The Lord has made a proclamation.
Raise up a banner for the nations.
The Lord has made a proclamation.
See, your Savior, He is coming,
He is seeking, He is finding.

Current mood:  busy
Below is the newsletter I sent out early this morning to folks on our e-news list. It includes some new ways to let us know if you would like a Tangled Blue performance in your home town. We currently have folks who have invited us to Eau Claire (WI), Menomonie (WI), Lewiston (ID), Sacramento (CA), Olathe (KS), Sioux Falls (SD), and Minneapolis... I admit, I started the "demand" for a Tangled Blue concert in Minneapolis. Anyone want to join in? From what I can tell, once enough folks demand a performance in their town eventful.com sends us an email notification that demand is at "critical mass", and we set up a show. Web 2.0... cool.

Hello,

It's 3a.m. and I am watching PBS. Frontline is on; it's an episode
about growing up online. They're talking about MySpace and Facebook
right now... why am I up? I don't know... actually, I do know. I was
ending the night with a free online strategy game that my nephew
introduced me to. It's addictive, and now it's 3a.m. The new CD is
VERY close to finished. Really, it is! And we have a number of great
performances coming up, including a concert this Friday in Sioux
Falls, SD. All of the details will be at the end of this newsletter.
I've also been experimenting with a new way for you to request a
Tangled Blue concert in your home town; it's through a service called
Eventful. You can check it out on tangledblue.com, and our MySpace,
and eventful.com/tangledblue. We are trying to figure out how to be
more economical with our touring. I hope Eventful will be one way to
help make that happen, and bring us to your town. New photos and
music will be posted at tangledblue.com in the coming weeks. Thanks
for hanging with us as we finish the CD. We are looking forward to
getting it into your hands and ears.

I need to sleep. We hope to see you soon.
Under the Mercy,
Joel
