We have a website, which can be found here:

Mungolian Jet Set

In it, you will find the usual rubbish that "musicians" include, for example:

Mungolian Audio

However, we have also got a real live Mungolian, direct from Mung, writing a blog:

The Homunculus Speaks

And we also have an order of Mungolian Knights ... or rather, a bunch of weirdos who re-enact Mungolian Historical battles on Halo 3 ...

The Noble Order Of The Knights Of Jumungus

And we have a plethora of other stuff that might fulfil some of your stranger needs ...

If you haven't already, get yourself over there now: Munke-Timor

And sign-up for the Mungzette, or join the Knights of Jumungus.

Go on!

Fly Mungolian - it can be our dirty little secret!

“a lush, alien soundworld somewhere between the ethnodelic mystery of Brian Eno and David Bryne's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and the cheesy progtastic expansiveness of Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld"  Tim Finney, Pitchfork

May 18, 2009

For Immediate Release

MUNGOLIAN JETSET GAVE IT ALL AWAY AND NOW THEY ARE TAKING IT BACK WITH LINDSTRØM, DOMINIQUE LEONE, EIVIND AARSET & NILS PETTER MOLVAE  AND MORE VIA SMALLTOWN SUPERSOUND.

Smalltown Supersound is proud to present you to the exschloctic tastes of Mungolian Jetset. With the album We Gave It All Away..And Now We Are Taking It Back, out August 18, 2009, the Mungolian collective mixes all of their work, remixes, covers, collaborations and originals into not just one, but in true prog rock manner, two albums (each counting in at 59:15,) as they are intended to be heard.

The flavors cover everything from house and disco inspired cheekiness via shameless dabblings with soft rock/Norwegian west coast, balearic, dub and ambient, psychedelia and techno, all melted into one giant wormhole of sound, or should we say zone. Imagination is pretty much the key to Mungolian Jetset's aural ingredients, even imaginary. One of their spokesmen, Paul "Strangefruit" Nyhus, keeps insisting they operate as channelers for a parrallel world of Mungsters, an ancient breed of intergalactic travellers in sound, working within the time-space continuum. Throughout their history it has become clear that they are not just a band hell-bent on producing the spaciest jazz ever heard, but that the Mungolian Masterplan is much darker and insidious, evolving to produce increasingly distinctive yet completely mind-absorbing beats to underpin a whirling vortex of sonic chaos, psychoacoustic bass warping and lavish and unbridled costumery. Legends of their remixing skills abound throughout the known world and, some might say, beyond. Defining a Mungolian Jetset remix is close to impossible, yet the beat is what immediately lets you know that you've arrived in the state of Mung. They probe the track carefully, and locate the Mungolian zone within it, before shaking it into a trancelike psychedelic wormhole that snakes through the souls of disco and bucket brigade dub.

So, apart from all of this gibberish, what kind of album is We Gave It All Away...And Now We Are Taking It Back? It's all in the title, as it features collaborations and remixes, once given away (most of the tracks featured have been previously released individually on vinyl 12-inches or in some other form,) and now taken back, to be presented in its full Mungolian context. So here you will find Mungolian Jetset hanging out with Mari Boine and Ronny And Renzo in a lavo within the centre of the earth, the bizarre Lindstrøm/Dominique Leone encounter aka 16th Rebels Of Mung, as well as journeys with norwegian jazz-kraut legends Eivind Aarset and Nils Petter Molvaer, psychedelic meetings at the mixing desk with The Shortwave Set and They Came From The Stars, excessive trippings at an italian nightclub with LSB, hanging out in L.A. June 1984 with Athana, and taking Ost & Kjex to some cabaret show in a giant barber-shop, meeting the ghost of Michael Jackson, reuniting with Lindstrøm in a turkish bath as well as a couple of exclusive originals and last but not least, their beyond zonked-out cover of "Could You Be Loved" under the moniker Pizzy Yelliot.

File under: Fantasy

"Never content to settle into one comfortable sound or approach, Mungolian Jetset treads the fine line between the bizarre and the relatable, between experimental and pop music, between organic and electronic instrumentation. Their uncanny compositions are as atmospheric as they are infectious, ethereal as they are danceable."   -- Amorn Bholsangngam, Urb  Magazine  (Next 100)

“a lush, alien soundworld somewhere between the ethnodelic mystery of Brian Eno and David Bryne's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and the cheesy progtastic expansiveness of Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. . . what makes Mungolian Jetset’s recorded work so exciting is precisely how it seems to snatch victory from the jaws of disaster, venturing dangerously into a no man’s land of overblown grandiosity, and coming back with treasures that in anyone else’s hands would be mere trash." -- Tim Finney , Pitchfork

“[Mungolian Jetset] manage to be both simultaneously laid-back and danceable, weird and totally accessible. It sounded not just fantastic, but multi-faceted: you could imagine hearing it in a club, you could imagine sticking a pair of headphones on at home and losing yourself in it or wafting around in the background of a party."   -- Alexis Petridis, GQ Magazine (International Edition)

LUNA005 - EPICS AND DONUTS - (ALTZ VS MUNGOLIAN JETSET)

TRACKLISTING
A Altz vs Mungolian Jetset - Epics And Donuts
B Mungolian Jetset - Madre Epics part 2

INFO
We return from the outer orbit of Luna with another great piece of music. This time we bring you Mungolian Jetset..s interpretations of Altz, japanese oddball producer of extraordinaire with a fu-manchu beard to boot. We feel that Altz must be a descent of some old Japanese shogunate with his weird but wonderful music and married to the schloguns of Mung we are destined for one hell of a trip out of the blue and into the deep deep red. "Epics And Donuts" was released in Japan only earlier this year, so we thought to give it a full European release. Flipped with Mungolian Jetset..s brand new "Madreh-Epics Part 2" based on their remix, this is as much at home at the Panorama bar as in a New York style loft-party going through a smacked out hippie beach party in Goa back in the not-so distant future . It..s techno, but then again it..s really not. It..s dark but more like darkly sexy. It..s the sound of ferocious disco dancers taking over the art house congregation. It..s what happens when a bohemian DJ who wants the world to rebel, and a music producer/engineer who just wants to write an opera turn their heads to some japanese altzemistian music.

FEEDBACK
DJ Garth (Grayhound/Golden Goose). Both tracks are smokin!
ND¦Baumecker (Panorama Bar): Crazy shit, the 2 tracks were blowing me well off ......ACIIIEEEEEEEEEED!
Dave Martin (Technique). Great stuff, love the Altz track!
Ata (Playhouse/Robert Johnson) cooolllllll sound i love it, thanks more of this.... i love
mongo.....
Toby Tobias (Rekids). I prefer the slow one, epics & donuts.
DJ Three (Hallucination ltd). yeah its mental post italo psychedelic disco, or something like that. Love it.
Trevor Jackson (Playgroup). Epic's part 2 is incredible!!!!...thanks for sending to me, will play it loads :-)
Matt Tolfrey (Leftroom). This mungolian jetset thing is ace, a little long but very good.
Gerd Janson (Running Back/Robert Johnson). Luna Flicks rocks. I very much like both of them tunes. Schizophrenic disco with hints of dubby druggy early nineties house and lost no wave gems. Will play!..tr>..table>

Mari Boine vs
Mungolian Jetset
- It ain’t necessarily evil

Letter to Norwegian Embassy, London, January 9th 2008.

To whom it may concern,

I wish to express my concern about an unprecedented menace that has
emerged from your country and is currently infecting the youth of
Britain
with unstoppable veracity: Mungolians. These layabouts, cornerboys,
soapdodgers, hippies, spivs and individuals of dubious mental
fortitude
and questionable intentions have begun thrusting their elongated and
throbbing remixes into the unprotected underbelly of our youth.
Indeed, it
comes as no surprise that these loutish young men model themselves
after
the Mongol invaders.

Furthermore, it has been brought to my attention that these disco
delinquents have desecrated one of their own national treasures, the
beloved Sami Joik singer Mari Boine Persen. Placing her exquisite
ethnic
voice in a jarring juxtaposition with the worst excesses of what
passes
for music these days, these would-be Khans have created an altogether
frightening melange of sounds encompassing the full gamut of the
hallucinatory and phantasmagorical world inhabited by hopheads,
opium-eaters, and laudanum addicts. And all of this is skewered with a
beat that can only serve as a motivation to move one’s pelvis in lewd
and
unseemly ways. In short, if this is what they do to their own culture,
what chance remains for this green and pleasant land?

These waves of assault come from the music house that has been given
the
ludicrous moniker of "Luna Flicks", another indication of the kind of
absence of sense and reason that characterises these assassins of art
and
culture. Their previous outing by one "Fjordfunk" was little more
than the
mating call of a drunken dipper in a hammer factory.

To add yet more infection to the wounds of injury, the sleeve of their
offerings are printed with what is fancifully described as "artwork"
by
one Suzie Webb, and is clearly the product of an hysterical female
mind in
need of the firm guiding hand of a suitable husband instead of the
company
of the worst of Nordic ragamuffins whose disposition makes the
collective
Vikings of history, from the Lindisfarne Raiders to the invasion
force of
Harald Hardrada, seem like a Girl Scout Jamboree. It truly brings a
pain
to my heart to see such an English Rose made into a fjord-hopping
strumpet
and brush-wielding harridan.

In addition to such misdemeanors, these Mungolians have been known to
frequent Irishmen. Worse yet, they have been heard to encourage the
continued Irish soiling and besmirching of the canon of literature in
English, which, quite frankly, would be greatly enriched by a removal
of
all Hibernian elements.

In conclusion, I would ask that the Norwegian government take greater
interest in the output of its citizens, especially that which
masquerades
as culture. And while many may regard me as a killjoy, I assure you
that I
will use every connection within Whitehall that I have to instigate a
policy of cultural mercantilism until this and all other such threats
are
eliminated.

Yours sincerely in the shining light of a Pure English future,

Xenophobia Harrington-Bletch

P.S. As a precaution I have sent copies of this missive to the
Norwegian
Seaman’s Church and Neutrogena.

Feedback:

wicked stuff - cheers for sending - am loving th e dub fits nicely in
a slowhouse set
lovely crspy production
Toby Tobias(Rekids Records)

Opening with a wicked flamenco guitar definitely evoking some dark
Gypsy magic . With this track you can feel the tension brewing into
what going to be some serious dancefloor business. My predication is
this will be one of my favorite tracks of 08. All Hail the Mungolian
sound!!!
Dj Bwyse(Talking In Stereo Blog)

Love them both. Proper demented. Especially love "Suiovean Mamadoo".
Did you steal the drums from Tantra - Wishbone on 33? Proper space
music. It makes be want to take mushrooms
Moonboots(Afficionado, Manchester UK and Undisputed King of
Moodbootsery and Ballsearatica)

Tim Sweeney(Beats In Space)

The tracks you sent are very special! I’ve come to always expect the
un-expected from you. I like how your stuff is always very heady and
deep without being boring.
Andrew Allsgood(Truffle Music)

The Mari Boine mixes are so fucking great that I..m considering moving
up north to start my own reindeering
Todd Terje
