Hey All! I hope you are off to a great start in 2009. The new year brings many fresh things for The Callen Sisters! Jessa and I are thrilled to be playing in Memphis in a few weeks. I've been to Tennessee a few times before, but never so far west as Memphis, the music city - of Johnny Cash, Elvis, and of Gibson guitars. We'll be playing at the Folk Alliance conference, which takes place Feb. 18-22. We will be performing Friday night at the ASCAP showcase. If you'll be around, stop in and say hello!

Hey All! Just wanted to let you all know the big news that has been brewing in The Callen Sisters camp. We just signed a record deal! We will be working with Cordless Recordings, a very nice little label based in NYC. You can read more about the label here: http://www.cordless.com/ The most exciting part of this whole process is beginning to gather ideas for our next record - from songs to arrangements to album artwork. I've been busy taking a lot of pictures this summer that I think will be gorgeous for the new album. Thanks to all our fans and everyone who has supported us over the years. You are all wonderful people with very big hearts. Here is to fulfilling dreams and finding joy in every moment! Love, Beth

As a songwriter, how does the creative process begin? By plugging away at some guitar chords? Some plunkety plunk on the piano… or perhaps a melody that has you entranced? At a very early age, I loved to write lyrics and build little melodies around them, but as of late, I find myself mostly writing the harmony first. (Being mainly a guitarist that means a chord progression or riff, although the piano is transforming that process for me). Lyrics are written in a slew of notebooks in various corners of my ‘music room' and melody always comes last. Now this is a very personal formula…a custom formula, you could say. I'm sure many people have it quite different than that. The most blessed experience is when a song comes all at once – like a little lightbulb being switched on in your head. It's like you take a breath in, and there it all is, simultaneously and unwavering. I have only had one of these moments, but I always hope more will come. Current mood:it's past my bedtime!
So we are very excited to announce that our show on Tuesday, June 20 at Sutra Lounge in NYC is going to be broadcast live on Radiosutra! www.sutraradio.com. If you can't physically make it to the show, why not be there cybernetically (did I just make that word up?... I think so) - if you're working late, let us cheer you (you'll be done soon) If you're making dinner, maybe our music will make your food taste better. It's worth a try, eh? ;-) Whatever it is you may be doing on Tuesday at 7, tune in and take a listen.
xoxo
