hello to anyone out there who gives a fuck and reads these things!  if you've been paying attention the last couple of days, you'll see that we were on the hunt for a guitarist after the abrupt departure of KC.  Well, we found our dude.  I'm pretty fucking stoked to announce that Mike Gardner (formerly of Hereyezonfire, Zero Trigger, and Praemonere) has joined up as our new guitarist.  Mike stepped into the jam space with less than a weeks notice and managed to learn the bulk of our debut album by just sitting with the cd, so with that being said, we're not gonna be out of the game for long.  We're looking forward to working with him and are equally excited about having just an all around good guy in the band.

Thanks to anyone who sent messages regarding playing guitar for us, and thanks to you if yer reading this shit.  Now go do something thats bad for you...

The Day of the Beast guitarist KC Rader has left the band.  Obviously we're not going to discuss why he decided to leave.  Its no ones business but the people involved.  However, despite the change in line-up, all shows that we have in our calendar will be played.  HE won't be there, but you can be sure as hell the rest of us won't bail on ya.  We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

After our Fredericksburg show, we'll obviously be taking some time off to get his replacement worked in and learning the old material as well as working on new material.  We're gonna be busy as fuck!  So, sometime in the very near future, TDOTB is gonna have a new face with us (some of you will recognize him), and somewhat of a new look, but rest assured the music will ALWAYS be TDOTB.

More news to come...

Here's a snippet of the review from Metal-Invader.com:
"The Day of the Beast were founded somewhere between 2006 and with their first demo release around 2008 they’ve managed to start their own empire…Their unique sound is the very first thing that someone will notice when listening to them for the first time. But now there’s a good chance for this as their debut album is out!!!"

We were fortunate enough to have our debut cd reviewed in the January 09 issue of the mighty UK based magazine Metal Hammer, and also in the January 09 issue of US based magazine Outburn.  We would like to thank both publications for running the reviews, and the kind words.

Here are some snippets of the reviews:

From Metal Hammer
:
"If there is a downside to the thrash revival, its that much of the nastiness that made the genre exciting 20 years ago is conspicuous by its absence.  TDOTB are determined to redress the balance, invoking the spirit of Slayer, Kreator and Possessed and throwing in a dash of black metal menace for bad measure..."

review by Dom Lawson

From Outburn Magazine
:
"If you are going to make 80s influenced thrash - think Slayer with a more gnarled vocal approach - you better do it like you mean it, or you run the chance of sounding like a secondhand, sonically bland, headache inducing excuse of a band nobody is going to give a squabble about.  The Day of the Beast's self-titled debut is evidence that they mean it more than most metal bands out there, no matter the obvious influences..."

so there you have it!  if any of that peaks your interest, we implore you to pick up Metal Hammer, or Outburn...or both from your local newsstand.

Cheers and happy headbanging!

Hello all.  We've become very fortunate to have been interviewed by the mighty Masterful Magazine.  To read the interview, please follow this link:
http://www.masterful-magazine.com/wywiad.php?wyw=625

Here is a piece of the review that Masterful did for our debut CD.

"Chesapeake, Virginia black/thrash metal combo The Day Of the Beast debut on Canonical Hours Records after releasing one sole demo at the beginning of 2008. Drawing influences from The Crown, Deströyer 666, Kreator, (early) Morbid Angel and to a lesser degree Exodus "The Day Of the Beast" is a high octane exercise in well written and expertly executed black/thrash metal with death metal undertones."

Thanks to all of you out there reading this.  Hope the new year is doing ya right.

We've had some reviews come along since our debut album came out on Oct 15th. Here are some snippets of the reviews with links to the full review:

From Metal-Rules.com:
"This vicious beast here in our hands was born in Hampton Roads, Virginia in 2005, and it was baptized with the name The Day of the Beast (a quite extraordinary name for a band indeed), featuring 5 lads whose purpose is to prove us that a strike of the beast isn..t something one should deal too lightly with.

The Day of the Beast add cleverly some of the ferociousness and rawness of black metal (ála old Immortal) with old school sounding thrash metal (old Kreator, Merciless, Defleshed, etc.), and the result is – just like so many other similar black/thrash-styled bands (Desaster, Deströyer 666 and so on) have already convinced us by a fair big amount of their own quality releases, simply killer, I must confess."

"I think The Day of the Beast was originally a horror movie. I'm not sure, but I think so. That's a good name for a band, I'll give them that. Throw in the fact that the band plays thrash metal, and it's all good. Now, the thrash metal portrayed here on this first album of theirs isn't really your typical, 80's, KREATOR-DESTRUCTION thrash metal. It isn't proto-thrash, nor retro-thrash, it's somewhere in between, kind of like a cross between ARTILLERY, SODOM and Satan; the Devil, not some band. I don't actually know if there is a band called Satan out there, but I wouldn't be surprised. Anyway, I say that because blackened thrash would be the most appropriate way to define these guys. Know those Germans, DESASTER? There you go..."

"Virginia's The Day of the Beast cranks out some seriously ear scorching black thrash on their debut album for Canonical Hours. Starting with a KREATOR-ish foundation The Day of the Beast adds lethal doses of black metal riffing and hints of death metal rhythmic leanings. At times these guys remind me of Sweden's MERCILESS and that is probably the most accurate comparison I can make. Predators Path kicks out searing thrash but with some freezing cold black metal riffing in the middle as well..."

And here's one from some fine folks in Germany:

"In Virginia trafen sich vor drei Jährchen zwei Typen mit je einer Gitarre und beschlossen, sich mit anderen Typen und deren Instrumenten harten Tönen zu widmen. So entstand THE DAY OF THE BEAST, die nun als Quintett ihr Debüt abliefern."

If anyone listenin' to our stuff speaks german and wants to hook us up with a translation of that review, that'd be badass. We THINK its a good one...

"I'll be the first to admit that I didn't want to review this album, and not for the reasons you might think either. It has more to do with the fact that once I've reviewed an album, I tend to not listen to it again, especially promo stuff, as it gets archived at home and rarely looked for again. But if I take an extended time to write the review, then I just have the CD in my work machine and listen to it on repeat for weeks on end, usually I get fed up eventually and do the review, but in this case I've been listening to this for over a week now and it just gets better each time. This Virginian quintet play black metal infused with a lot of BAY AREA style thrash elements, which is probably why I enjoy it so much. Think IMMORTAL meets EXODUS and you'll be wrong, or will you... but it has the ferocity and emotion of both..."

"Holy blindsided fuck! What do you get when you combine the best of ABSU, SKELETONWITCH and TOXIC HOLOCAUST? You get sheer madness known as The Day of the Beast, that's what you fucking get! Hailing from Virginia, The Day of the Beast is, simply put, some of the best blackened thrash I have EVER heard. Having just released their debut record, I received this full length in the mail a few weeks ago, along with a couple other Canonical Hours releases. I tell you, these guys have probably been checking this site wondering when the hell I'll get their reviews up, well, it's because Canonical Hours has risen up from out of nowhere to become one of my new favorite indie labels with me partaking in vast amounts of listening pleasures, and this album has much to do with it!"

check the rest of that out at:
www.allmetalresource.com

"There are albums that despite some minor points still make their rounds in my CD player. These albums have a general atmosphere and aggression that make up for the little mistakes, and these albums overall make the listening session to a time well spend. Ah, you guessed it already: this debut album named after the band The Day Of The Beast is one of those full length albums..."

"To be honest, the only thing that drew my attention when I browsed the internet for The day of the beast, was the fact that Justin Shaw (ex-ARSIS) was in the band. This however was very insular of me and that fact became piddling once the record started spinning."

check that one out here:
http://forum.deathmetal.be/frontpage/fyu/index.html

"The Day of the Beast is a relatively new band, gathered together in 2005 in Hampton Roads (Virginia, USA). The Day of the Beats is rather a good name for a metal band, leading my thoughts towards some death/horror images. But it is not exactly the genre these guys are playing. The band draws influences from bands such as Kreator, Morbid Angel, Emperor, Destruction, Sodom, Exodus and other mainly thrash bands. The elements of black metal are present in their music too, but it is mainly thrash metal of the late 80s that is in the center here"

Hails Germany! the rest of it is here:

"Here's an interesting thrash metal band. For starters, they aren't playing lame retro thrash or loser-friendly metalcore disguised as thrash. In these godforsaken times, that alone should make a thrash metal band interesting. Fortunately for us, The Day of the Beast have more to offer. Their brand of thrash can roughly be described as a cross between Under the Blade era Defleshed and The Crown. So they sound more Swedish than anything, and while they do have undertones of melody in their music which may make it seem just a tad effeminate at times to the conventionalists, they are undoubtedly straight and have balls to prove it, fuzzy evil balls.

These guys indeed know how to thrash like maniacs. With a crunchy and jagged production, their razor-sharp thrash attack can kick the asses of even some of the jaded slobs around."

You heard the man. Fuzzy Evil Balls. read more about our balls here:

subject line says it all.  first printed review to come along (that we know of).  Here it is:

THE DAY OF THE BEAST
The Day of the Beast
Canonical Hours Records
9 Skulls
Heres a no bullshit Thrash Metal holocaust with more musical prowess and creativity than a stack of major label Thrash Metal knock-offs. Formed in 2005 in Hampton Roads, Virginia, The Day Of The Beast features the considerable talents of vocalist Steve Harris, guitarists Eric Barlow and KC Raider, drummer Aaron Jacka and bassist Justin Shaw. These five come together as one mighty metal force on blasting tracks like Predators Path, Dead, yet Dreaming and The Crawling Chaos as guitars rage, drums attack and vocals roar at the gates of Hell. Graced by one of the best Joe Petagno cover paintings Ive seen in years, The Day of the Beast is a complete package and fans of blistering Thrash Metal will find themselves in rapture. Fucking essential! (DH)
