We're back from our performance at the Regenr8 dome in Peats Ridge on New Year's Eve. Powered completely by solar, the 360 degree projection screens were a perfect backdrop for the projections and audio smoke signals visualising our music. Wearing gloves with sensors, I used hand movements to control and trigger sounds. The results were projected onto the dome walls as visual effects via open source program Smokescreen, combined with J D Young's video art.

The festival had a great village atmosphere this year, hosting a huge array of acts with no obvious headliners. We saw lots of fun and eccentric cabaret acts and bands, drank too much Mayan coffee and soaked up the buzz of the crowd, dressed in their freakish best for New Year's.

Life seems strangely empty now that the Underbelly Festival + Public Arts Lab is over. No more sleepless nights in a playground filled with eccentric creative artists. Now we're adjusting to life back in the studio, the desire for collaboration stronger than ever.

We hope to work with the REJENR8 Productions dome crew again, as it takes our performance way further than any standard pub/club stage and PA could ever do. There's also a lot of work to do on the tactile mixing surface. More development is needed to make it a stable system that can rival traditional mixing methods. At least we can see the possibilities now.

Tap Gallery - Wednesday 7 May, originally uploaded by deprogram.

A huge thank-you to everyone who came along to the Deprogram video exhibition at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst.

The show featured J D Young's video prints and projections, representing years of experimentation in video art and graphic design.

Our launch on May 7 was filled with beaming faces and wonderful volunteers who ensured the smooth pouring of drinks and sales of prints, T-shirts and DVDs. We have some photos of you all on our Flickr page. Cause my camera was on the blink, most of the shots are taken with a camera phone (thanks to the gorgeous Chelsea). There were several other people wandering around taking photos. Please let me know if you have any to add to the collection.

We'll be back at the Tap Gallery to perform at the 19th Birthday celebrations on Friday July 4.

Deprogram is hosting a week long exhibition at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst from May 5-11.

The show contains the latest range of video art and prints by Sydney artist J D Young. Using his extensive experience as a painter and VJ, Young's latest work conveys fluid motion and manages to captures the fleeting nature of video art.

Also on show will be a range of Deprogram concert posters and t-shirts from Young's company, Black Tees.

Deprogram will perform live at the:

Launch Party - Wednesday 7 May - 6.30 - 8pm

Closing party - Sunday May 11 - 4-6pm

I've finally gotten back into a work routine since the European trip. At first I was buzzing with ideas and could barely get any music done. Now I'm a bit more disciplined, sitting and working on tracks till inspiration strikes. We're adding a few more parts to the album to flesh out some of the arrangements. I've also started writing material for a live album I've been planning. My time away has luckily given me a fresh perspective on the work I've been immersed in for so many years.

To help me organise my thoughts, I found a cool new app that helps capture ideas quickly and brainstorm with friends called Wridea. Hopefully it will give me a place to park my ideas so I don't lose focus all the time.

Countless hours this week were spent composing with the incredible open source Bristol synths, software versions of vintage synths like the Moog, Prophet and Juno. For a person who has been trying to cut her visits to music technology stores, this package of virtual synthesisers has been a godsend. Although it hasn't cured my desire for a new microphone...

Mokrice - Slovenia, originally uploaded by deprogram.

Over October and part of November I visited relatives in Croatia and Italy, and along the way managed to visit Slovenia, Switzerland and Singapore.

I've posted some photos on Flickr, which you can see here:

Luckily the camera has an audio record function, so I ended up capturing lots of warm sounding bell chimes for the deprogram sample library.

Cash by J D Young

I've just finished redesigning the content and layout of the Deprogram site. As with all websites, it's a work in progress, and there are many more things I want to do to it.

J D Young, who provides all the Deprogram visuals, created the video styled background image, which holds the whole theme together. He's just launched an online shop for his prints and new range of striking black t-shirt designs. You can check it out at:

Blacktees

J D has also contributed a new set of videos to Digital Fringe. This Melbourne based festival streams video art over the web as well as screens and projections throughout the city. Works range from abstract pieces to short films and animations. It opens on Wednesday 26 September and runs till October 14.

The 'Waited So Long' film clip has been uploaded to Youtube. Click here to view.

I'm slowly coming out of creative hibernation. I've been writing and producing a lot, thinking, and most importantly, trying to stay warm. With night temperatures going as low as 4°C, I've suddenly become very productive. Projects that were stalled are now back on track.

I'm having a fun time using Ardour for mixing and arranging and getting into the deeper aspects of the program. Usually I disagree with my machine and software, but this one of the rare times we're working harmoniously.
