FRANKIE WANTS OUT
ALBUM/2009 SUMMER TOUR
Press Release
FWO BIOGRAPHY
You enter the room and a wall of sound and heat hits you. Limbs are flying as the band sizzle underneath a cooking solo. That unmistakable sound washes over you and you forget the rest of the week even happened. The band is FRANKIE WANTS OUT, that unmistakable sound is SWING and it's been making audiences jump from Fitzroy to Brisbane and shows no signs of letting up. Frankie Wants Out is a nine piece band playing original red hot Swing Tunes guaranteed to make you jump and jive all the way across the dance floor, regardless of whether you're in a rocking pub or a classy cocktail lounge. Forming in September 2005, their sound has developed into something unique. Whilst being heavily influenced by the music of the New York dance halls of the 20's and 30's, they also take influence from more modern acts such as Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin' Daddies. Since the band's initiation, they have played many shows, toured the east coast of Australia, had airplay on major Australian radio stations, played many festivals, several residencies, appeared live on national television twice (Mornings with Kerri-Anne and The Today Show—Nine Network), released and sold thousands of copies of their debut EP The Melbourne Way and is soon to release their debut album, to be launched Jan 09, followed by another east coast tour.
ALBUM INFOMATON
PROHIBITION is the debut full length album from Melbourne band FRANKIE WANTS OUT. Prohibition, the follow up recording to FWO's high selling EP The Melbourne Way, is a well mixed cocktail of styles including Latin, Rockabilly, Motown Funk, Dixieland and of course, Swing, the style they are famous for. FWO, who have made a name for themselves as a "Gangster Swing" act have been working tirelessly for the last six months on producing this much anticipated album. The album was recorded all over Melbourne, from The Shed Studio to Tender Tap Studios to the Victorian College of the Arts. Fans of Frankie Wants Out, who have been eagerly awaiting the release of this album, will be impressed with sing-able melodies, catchy horn riffs, cooking solos, jumping beats and a mixture of brand new material and live favorites, all performed by some of Melbourne's most talented up and coming musicians. Frankie Wants Out is proud to announce their official album & tour launch on
Saturday 3rd January at The Corner Hotel, Richmond Vic.

Hello friends of Frankie Wants Out...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
We trust this email finds you well.
Things have been a little quiet in the Frankie camp lately, but that's all about to change.
We have a heap of shows coming up, we're about to hit the studio to get this album done, we're in planning for our summer tour and we're going to be on national TV again… if this interests you, please read more…
SHOWS
FWO will be playing a one off show at ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Manchester Lane next Monday 30th June. We know its late notice, but if you feel like a classy night out, some dinner and cocktails and if you're on School Holidays, then this is the night for you. If you haven't been there it's a great venue and you can catch FWO straight out of their first day of Recording. Only $10 entry and we start at 8pm – 10.30pm, so even though it's a week night, you'll get to bed early.
FWO has been booked to play a series of shows at the National Gallery of Victoria as part of their big Art After Dark Expo. It's to tie in with Art Deco an exhibition on the Prohibition Era. Frankie Wants Out will be playing on long set every Wednesday night in July, starting about 7.30. The exhibition does cost to get in to, but the Art After Dark part (where we are playing) is all FREE, so come into town one Wed night, bring the family and have a jive to some hard boiled gangster swing!
We will also be playing a big show at The Espy Front Bar in St Kilda on Friday 11th July – see our Myspace profile for more details and the poster:
Line up:
FRANKIE WANTS OUT
KING CITY SEVEN
THE VAUDEVILLAINS
THE TABASCO JUNKIES
Free Entry
These are always great nights and we'd love to play to a huge crowd, so be sure to catch us there.
TV APPEARANCE
As part of the advertising for the Art After Dark shows, FWO will be appearing on Channel 9's Today Show THUR 3rd JULY. We will be "crossed to" when they throw to Steve Jacobs to do the weather, as well as talking about us and the expo, we'll play a tune while he announces the forecasts and what not. This will happen 3 times throughout the morning, so we'll get to play 3 different tunes. The first one will be around 7.30, second around 8am, third around 8.30… We know it's an early start, but it'll be even earlier for us, so roll out of bed and switch on the box and then call Channel 9 and tell them how great your thought we were… Obviously joking… they don't respond to phone calls, so put it writing. He he he.
RECORDING
FWO hits the Shed Studios to record their debut album with John Castles. Frankie will record 12-13 tracks and will have their album out by October (stand by for a launch date).
A little taste? We are keeping most of what we record a secret, but we can let you know we'll be recording "Swing Kittens Meow" and "Capone's Valentine" by popular request.
Stay tunes for more news and sneak previews regarding the album.

WOW, welcome 2008! But we thought we'd just have a quick look at the wonderful year 2007 was for us in Frankie Wants Out.
..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Frankie Wants Out played heaps of shows in 2007 at all different Venues/Festivals/Bars/Clubs. Festivals include the Wangaratta Jazz Fest, Brunswick Music Fest and the Queenscliff Music Fest. 2007 also saw the first FWO East Coast Tour named "The Skipping Town Tour". FWO played shows in Sydney, ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Brisbane, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Newcastle & Canberra. All shows were a fantastic success and we were thrilled at how many people came out to see us play. We also sold lots of EP's and T-shirts along the way.
Some of the shows we will always remember; playing the opening of the Melbourne International Arts Fest @ Melbourne Town Hall, playing Federation Square as part of Connections 07, playing our final Scarlette Jazz Club show (Scarlette RIP), playing on the Yarra Banks in Southbank for Stop The Traffic, Playing the Queenscliff Music Fest to a packed room (and selling loads of EP & T's), playing all the shows on our first tour – I know Newcastle will be a show we'll never forget – (those of us that can remember it to begin with), playing the Blue Diamond on New Years Eve. All in all, we played many, many great shows in 2007
Our First EP – The Melbourne Way, which was launched at on the 30th of Dec 06, but wasn't really "out" until 07, has sold almost 1000 copies and continues to sell well either over the internet or at live shows.
The EP includes the tracks:
Mob Rules
The Melbourne Way
Crevelli St
Martini Made of Tears
Jive x 5
Don't Play Dice with the Devil.
If you haven't picked up your copy yet, then make sure you do before they all go!
We were very lucky as we received quite a bit of Radio play in 07. 3 main tracks – The Melbourne Way, Don't Play Dice with Devil and Mob Rules were played on Triple J, 3RRR, PBS & 3LO. Please feel free to request us on any of these mentioned stations. Triple J's Roots n All & Home and Hosed continue to give FWO a bit of air play, so we say a big thanks to those shows.
2 Frankie Tunes (The Melbourne Way & Mob Rules) passed 10, 000 plays on our MySpace. We have also met and had a heap of new friends join the Frankie myspace family.
What are we looking forward to in 2008?:
We started our residency at Melbourne's famous Evelyn Hotel, taking over from Funk Fiction on a Wednesday night, our first show was a great success and we hope to see many people down there on Wednesdays throughout summer. We are raising money for our first Album, which we hope to record soon and then tour with. We have a heap of cool shows coming up, including Moomba on the Yarra foreshore.
Who knows what the rest of 2008 holds for us, but let us say that we intend to make it just as great as 2007 was for us.
We want to thank everyone for their support, whether it be coming to shows, booking us, buying our CD's & Merch, depping for us or simply telling your friends about us. We couldn't do it without you.
Thanks so much, keep Swingin' and we'll see you at a show soon.
From:
Sammy Vegas, Screaming Beau Armstrong, Don Camero, Smoking J, Sharky Finn, Dom the Boxer, Benny Brooklyn, Carl The Boss and Andy 'Pants' Coatez…

A great song and a cool arrangement, catchy as too! I agree, they are totally different to anything else on the unearthed site. There is another tune on their myspace that is great too! I have seen these guys at gigs and they're fantastic. This tune should get some air play I reckon! Good work Frankie Wants Out!

Frankie Fundraising!
You may or may not know that I and Andy have been working towards organizing a community fundraiser event that will take place on Friday October the 20th. This blog is to keep you, the good people of Melbourne, informed and up to date about why's, the wherefores and the reasons thereof in relation to this gig.
The event will be run by and at The Salvation Army Brunswick, where I work, and we will be raising money for an organization called The Hope Street Refuge.
The Refuge provides temporary housing for young people who are at risk of becoming homeless. They provide a broad range of services for these youth including family counseling, out reach, searching for accommodation, youth reconciliation and so on.
Through meeting with the refuge Andy and I came up with the idea of raising some money for them to buy some musical instruments and start a program there. It fits perfectly; we're putting on a night of live music because we think music is a great thing which should be available and accessible to everyone. But the reality is not everyone has the chance to experience music. The money raised from this event will go towards helping those without the resources or wealth to experience music.
Andy and I have also had regular meetings with a class from Brunswick Secondary College who are keen to help out in anyway they can. Basically the class works towards community projects and goals and they're very excited about helping out. We're also having a band from the school participating.
We've got some great bands lined up including the Sea Bombs, Early Nerd Special, Wyreless, The Perfect Sunday, Twist of Fate, and of course, Frankie Wants Out. This gig will also be a great opportunity for some younger bands to get a leg up and have a go at doing a gig with some more experienced bands.
So here's the run down, put it in your diary!
What? Drug and alcohol free fundraiser gig
When? Friday October 20th, Friday night 7pm til late
Where? Brunswick Salvation Army hall, 256 Albert street Brunswick
Why? Raise money to start a 'Hope street refuge music program'.....and to have a great night out!
How much? $10 at the door.
They'll be food for sale and the night and other fun things going down. If you think you'd like to help out in anyway at all (no matter how small), leave us a message on the myspace and Andy and I will get back to. If not, just come along and have a great time with us, we'd love to see you there.
Cheers,
Cam Stark Frankie Wants Out Tromboner

FRANKIE WANTS OUT
**UPDATE**
A big thanks to all the people who contacted us after our gig at the Espy on Friday. To say we had a blast is an understatement. Thanks also to Bosma and The Resignators for hooking us up with the Gershwin Room action.
Our next show coming up is on Friday the 25th of August at Scarlet Bar. I hear what youre saying How the F#ck did Frankie get on Neighbours? Did Dom sleep with Izzy again? Even after telling her that the Rogue Traders suck balls? That is exactly what I was thinking 12 months ago when we first played there. Turns out theres another Scarlet Bar at 185 Smith St in Fitzroy and Frankie have been lucky enough to have had a residency there for the past 12 months. So our next gig is a celebration. Not just a celebration of our 1st birthday but a celebration of all the things weve achieved in the past 12 months. No band members have punched on, nobody has slept with anybodys girlfriend (as far as I know), and we managed to kick that nasty drug habit we had early on. Yes things are certainly coming up Milhouse. FRABJESDAY (formerly Green Eggs & Jazz) will be the support band and will be starting at 8:30 and well be getting our freak on at about 9:30pmish (or sometime close to that).
In other news Frankies EP is on the verge of being available (for those who need their hit of Frankie in daylight hours). So keep checking our mypace for the date and venue of our EP Launch.
Thanks again for all the kind words and we hope to see all you cats on the 25th makin the joint jump.
Peace
Swing It!

Hello to all you Cat's out there in Swing-Land, just an update on everybody's favorite Gangster Swing Band - Frankie Wants Out
Swing Patrol's Jitterbug Contest
A few Saturday nights ago, FWO had the honor of sponsoring the annual Swing Patrol Jitterbug Competition. Andy and Cam from the band attended and were so pleased they did. "Man, some of the moves they pulled out were out of this world! Im so glad to be even a tiny part of something so money and so swing!" Cam Stark. "The standard of dancing tonight is so high, I knew Melbournes swing scene was tops, but I was still surprised at how well these dancers did. I sure hope we get a chance to support Melbournes Swing Scene again!" Andy Coates. A Big congratulations to all the dancers involved and a big thank you to all at Swing Patrol for allowing FWO to be a part of such a wonderful event. www.swingpatrol.com.au
