BULLS ON PARADE
THE SHINE - LIVE @ LIZARD LOUNGE / Saturday August 25th, 2007

The final headlining act for the night is a touring glamrock band from Melbourne called The Shine and no despite all efforts (or my seriously badass photography skills *cough*) the overload of shots you're about to witness here could not hope to fully capture the mindblowing wank and cheese intensity that erupted forth from stage. Imagine Motley Crew combining forces with Aerosmith, Warrant, Thin Lizzy, The Darkness and Van Halen and you still couldn't make a cow big enough to match the cheese production, if they ever played a double bill with fellow Melbournites Airbourne we'd all die from the lactose overload and if Dominoes ever dared to kidnap these guys to add to their artery clogging triple cheese and cheesy crust pizza recipe then they'd damn near usher in the Apocalypse. The Shine were nothing short of the most hilarious circus act I've seen all year. Still, as much as I'm laughing my arse off as they attempt to throw power-wanking rock moves into nearly every single damn one of my shots, I gotta hand it to them they REALLY know how to put on one fuck of an A-grade performance! You monkeys can party on down here aaanytime! :)

Understandably so, things get just a LITTLE bit out've hand near the end of their set as Penmonicus is invited to invade the stage with about 10-15 of his drunken friends (an act I admit I was a little guilty of joining in on meself *cough*), before the band proceeds to rock out with the remainder of the crowd OFF the stage. Translation: throw away the cheese, the cow and that pizza, we got our apocalypse and a bucket of chicken right along with it! FUCK YEAH!!

Current mood:  crazy

THE SHINE with guests THE GELS - Crown & Anchor Hotel, March 3rd, 2007

When I got to the Crown & Anchor, THE GELS were on the stage rockin' and rollin'. One thing I gotta say definitely is that I really like their new songs. Really rockin'. They've reworked some of the ones they were playing in the set a while ago and the new touches sound sweet as. I really digged them tonight, it's just a pity more didn't get there early enough to see them. Still, THE GELS have been hard at it for years and they are putting out quality songs... the new album should be a real ball tearer if the songs they played tonight were anything to go by.

It's always a blast when THE SHINE come to town. They play kick ass hard rock with a tinge of KISS and Motley thrown in for good measure. Tonight was no different. Standing in the bar, vocalist Big Daddy Julian James shows me his new tattoo... right above his cock he reveals a tattoo of the Hot Rod! logo made famous by the rowdy one, Roddy Piper. That's taking your love of wrestling to the next level, that's for sure. When the band took to the stage, they were loud as fuck. Like really loud. Maybe too loud but it doesnt matter to me much, my ears died after seeing Guitar Wolf last November. The only problem with the loudness was the fact that you couldn't hear Big Daddy's vocals as well and I know this was affecting his performance vocally, not physically since he gyrated and danced with many a lady and got his groove on while the rest of the band rocked through song after song punching out riffs and kickin' ass with wailing solos. This was the first time I have ever seen the PA dude pull the plug on someone and he turned the PA off due to THE SHINE running 20 minutes over time. He cut the mic's off with only 2 songs to go but they played one of them anyway ('Whatcha Gonna Do?'). Their new songs sound wicked and I can't wait for the album. Amusing note was Big Daddy's attempt of going to the lighting and mixing desk to try and get the thing to work... Unfortunately, he was not successful. Now whilst the gig did indeed rock, I do get the feeling that this may be the last time we see THE SHINE in Adelaide for a while. I don't blame them either way, Adelaide's a shithole.
