I've been attending the Austin Film Festival this week, and, to be completely honest, I've not been overly impressed with any of the movies. I keep finding myself longing to stay home and do chores. (Never a good sign.)
The only film I finished last night was written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait and shot for $40K.
What?
Now, understand that I have always thought his stand-up was funny, but I don't look to him for any true, insightful emotion or humor elevated above the toilet.
I was pleasantly surprised with Sleeping Dogs Lie. It was pointed out that some of the transitions are whiplash-enducing. However, I was able to overlook that to see a sweet, funny look at families, friends and relationships through a very twisted lens.
The movie has been released recently in LA and New York and is not doing well, so I doubt it will be coming to your town soon. It is on Netflix, so maybe it will make it to video. If it does, rent it and enjoy.
