Now that this Elf is no longer dependent on the cough syrup, I've got some great stuff to bring you.

Butch sat down with the folks over at PopMatters for a very intricate and honest discussion about the music industry, young bands, and explains why it's more important to write songs than design T-shirts.

You can read the interview right here. The nice people over at PopMatters have also included Butch's video for his cover of Taylor Swift's song "You Belong To Me" in case you haven't checked it out yet, or in case you can't get enough of it!

And it gets even better: This is part 1 of a 3 part interview, so get excited cause part 2 comes next week!

hello friends. it's that time. Butch officially broke in his muscles for the live show 2 nights ago at the Hotel Cafe for the 1st night of the "cover to cover BW discography" shows, and it was really a blast. now that we know he can play music onstage still without throwing up, he's gonna do this in more cities... drum roll please.....

Today you can get tickets for the same exact series of "discography" shows in Chicago at Schubas (3 nights) and Atlanta at the 7 Stages (4 nights) Theatre!!!

woohoo!!! this is great because Chicago is one of his favorite cities and... well... Atlanta... you ARE his favorite city. these will be very intimate venues and shows with just the dude, doing a different record each night, front to back, with a fan picked cover song thrown in for good measure..

and Atlanta? you get an EXTRA show on the last day of the series that will be... well.. we have no idea.. but it will be fun and i am sure a surprise to all of us!

so let's do this, since the LA and NY shows sold out in like 2 hours. don't be slow on the draw on these... small venues.. small window of oppurtunity. GO!

Parlaying from the success of the residency at Hotel Cafe in LA, Butch will be jetting cross-country to the city of New York. These shows will take place at the equally small and inmate East Village spot known as Joe's Pub.

Just as in LA: he'll play an entire record, each show, front to back, in chronological order (that's a different album each show), throughout the 3 day residency

The 3 night extravaganza will take place on December 4th, 5th and 6th. You can get your tickets right here. Here's the scoop:

* The Dec 4th show will be 'Letters'

* The Dec 5th show will be 'The Rise And Fall...'

* The Dec 6th show will be 'Sycamore Meadows'

In addition to the full albums, each show will includes cover songs of fans choice on twitter. Same deal as before - post the cover(s) you want Butch to play and add #butchwalkercover to your tweet. We'll be checking for these all month too.

Get it? Got it? Good. See you soon NY.

Hello, all you nice people!!

Well if the fun were to stop now, I'd probably just retire from the game... But since I'm not a rapper/CEO/shoe designer I believe I will entertain us with the following little nugget:

I have wanted to be on "Name That Tune" ever since I first saw it on tv when I was a kid. I know it hasn't been a show for quite sometime, and you can pretty much turn on the radio these days and play the game yourself, but I figured I would give my tribute to it in the form of a contest of guitar riffs.

For the whole month of October (every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) there will be a short video clip of basically me sitting around in my pajamas in the morning with a guitar, playing a short riff that you will have to be the first to have the correct answer of said riff's original owner (the song title and artist). The difficulty ranges from popular to obscure. Old song to new song. Rock to metal. Bad to good. Its all there...

It will be posted on my Twitter, which you will then have to be the first to post the correct answer (song title and artists) by sending me an @reply to @butchwalker.

The winners will get their twitter names in the artwork of the new Butch Walker and the Black Widows album, plus some more cool exclusive stuff. Yay!!

It will also be posted afterward, to my official Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/butchwalker for all of those who want to see the videos without parTwitterpating in the contest (I kill me so hard right now..).

Oh yeah, and don't forget the nice little finish line at the end of the contest will be a month long sold out residency at the very intimate Hotel Cafe in LA, every Wed in November where I will play, front-to-back, a different album for each show.

More little surprises will be coming up for other cities before a full-on tour in the new year. I love this part of the ride!

Hi and hello to all my girls and boys.

Summer was fun and exciting between the walls of my new studio abode near the Santa Monica pier. Much love was put to tape, as I had the pleasure of collaborating with some awesome musicians and singers on their new forthcoming releases (Dashboard Confessional, Weezer, Cary Ann Hearst, NeverShoutNever, and a bunch more). Most importantly, I got to break in my new studio with my band of brothers (The Black Widows) for a new record!!!! We cut it mostly live in about a week. Mostly written as a collaborative effort, and really.... How should I say it in industry cliche.... SOLID.
The record "I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart" will be coming out shortly in the new year.

Of course, all good releases come packaged with a tour, so be excited about that! We will announce cities in the next weeks to come, and expect the tour to follow the release of the new record! Yay!!!

But I don't think I can wait til the new year to play some songs, so I've got an idea.. Or proposition for you...

What do u say about maybe me doing a little residency, every Wednesday, the whole month of November at The Hotel Cafe in LA? Sounds fun, right? As you know, the Hotel is very small, so it'll be very intimate and stripped down. Very fun as well!
Here's the twist...
I'm gonna play an entire record, each show, front to back, in chronological order (that's a different album each week), for the whole month.

*The first show will be "Letters"

*The next week will be "The Rise and Fall..."

*The 3rd show will be "Sycamore Meadows"

*And the last show will be.... Wait for it... A FANS CHOICE setlist!  This will be chosen by your posts on Twitter - just post the song(s) you want to hear and add #butchwalkersetlist to your tweet.  I'll be checking these and tweaking the setlist until the day before the show.

*Each of the 4 shows will also include a cover song of FANS CHOICE chosen on Twitter!  Same game - post the cover(s) you want me to play and add #butchwalkercover to your tweet.   I'll be checking for these all month too.  Bonus: I'll play 1 new song from the upcoming record at each show.

Now this all means a few things... First, I love my fans. They are the best, most dedicated fans in the world. Second, you need to sign up for Twitter if you aren't already one of the 6gigabillion people on it, in order to vote. Third, if you don't live in LA.... Roadtrip baby!!!! I may never do this again, so you won't wanna miss it (and if it goes well, I may come do this in a couple of small places in some of my fave cities before the end of the year).  Fourth, go get tickets now at Hotel Cafe before they're gone!

If that's not enough to make u fall out of your Laz-Y Boy, I'm also gonna have a cool contest on Twitter that will be a Name that guitar riff weekly video.  The first person to reply with the correct answer will get something super cool!! Yay!!

This is ridiculous. I've gotta go do a lap around the block to get my head from spinning off. I love you.

inspired.

i just saw "It Might Get Loud" at the Landmark cinema on Pico.. it was so good and made me love and realize why i got into music in the first place. i used to watch footage of jimmy page and Zep when i was young, whenever they would come on a public access show on TV called TV 69 (this was pre-internet/cellphone/9-11/perezhilton), and lose my mind at how mysterious and larger than life it was. hard to believe that no magazine or critic would touch them then.. pity what the press never realized and how scared they were of seeming too old to like anything embraced by the young... i just ran out of room and enlarged my text window.. this is gonna be a humdinger...

pardon my italian, but jack white is a bad ass motherfucker. i have always known this, but it solidified my man-crush when i could see his love for the ACT. he is a poser, not a poseur. he knows when the camera is on, and knows what he is gonna say, do, and mug. he will never admit it, but i know. that's not to say that he isn't primal. he is the nu-purveyor of impulse. i love him. he will step up and play anything and it will sound great. sloppy but confident. i wish that More artists would possess this. it would make their shows less....hmmm.... boring? i have never been starstruck by many artists. i was playing lollapalooza a couple of years ago (Wolfmother! remember them?) and the Raconteurs were playing. i am friends with a super talented gent by the name of Brendan Benson who is one of the singers and gtr players in the band. he invited me back after they melted my head off from playing a show that looked and felt like it was done in 1974. i sat next to all the guys as they ate beans and drank various assortments. i got introduced to Jack (to my right), and i said "hi. I'm Butch"... a minute went by and people were conversing. he looked back over and said "wait...Butch Walker??"... i nervously said "Yes".. another 15 seconds went by and then he sheepishly said "oh".... i have never been so uncomfortable in my life. i still to this day don't know if it was a good "oh" or a bad "oh". so weird for me to care about someone i just met, better yet, have been a few years his superior in life and music by a long shot or two. i mean. i wore red and black on Conan before he even wore a white stripe. i felt like a cougar or some shit....
all i know is, i am so full of life, full of recharged goodness and ready to feel music again. i love the new record i have recorded with my band. and i can't wait to go play these songs, and even songs i wrote years ago. i love this about my job. every once in awhile something comes along to make you feel small, curious, and eager to be the first in line at the record shop (RIP). i think it was my great uncle that said,
"life is full of zits... pop them..."
