I hope this note finds you well. thank you for reading.
A lot has changed for me in the last year and i thought i should let you know:
I moved to austin tx. been writing and recording and best of all started a new band called White Dress. We are a trio and are loud. It's fun as hell. I still love playing solo but the connection with my band is pretty bad ass and very inspiring. We jsut got done playing the Austin City Limits Festival and doing a show with Dan Aurbach (Black Keys). It's been fun, to say the least.
So from here, i plan on doing both projects separatley, Arum Rae (solo) and White Dress. You'll be hearing from us sooooon!
my best,
Arum

"Too Young To Sing the Blues" voted in the top 10 of albums released to 2006! www.rocktownweekly.com
Arum Rae This way-cool ex Berklee Grad from Virginia independently released a debut CD (Too Young To Sing The Blues) a while back that's a furious backwater slide guitar workout that's easily better than half the shit Fat Possum's put out for years.
With a wink and a nod to vintage Yardbirds, Time Out of Mind-era Dylan (think "Million Miles" hopped-up on Texas medicine and railroad gin) and even a sideways glance at the spirit of PJ Harvey's trashcan demos, on tape, Arum Rae Valkonen is beyond bewitching... whose ability to conjure up emotion-drenched, post-modern minimalist blues with just her yearning vocals, electric hollow-bodied guitar and simple percussion is quite disarming - and quite disarmingly impressive for such a youthful artist. Seems she's recently relocated to Savannah, and it would seem the local music scene is all the better for it.

"The Onion" Volume 43 Number 06
Arum Rae 3 Kings Tavern, 9pm $5, 21+ Virginian singer-songwriter Arum Rae Valkonen named her 2006 debut Too Young To Sing the Blues, but she hardly lives up to the title. In fact, blues is slopped all over her songs, a ragged batch of swampy riffs and full-bodied twang, that belies her status as an alum of the prestigious Berklee College of Music. The disc is surprisingly raw considering it features backing by musicians who have played with Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco, Norah Jones, and Paul Simon- but somehow, Arum Rae is able to conduct all this talent into something spontaneous and soulfully rich. The last time she played Denver it was in a junkyard, so the raucous environs of 3 Kings will be a step up.
(this was for a show I played in Denver
"...Rae has an astonishing vocal range, she has produced an effortlessly cool and fascinating record..." AmericanaUK
