I'm doing the bulk of my social networking at Facebook these days, so catch me over there.  Later!
Friday, October 10, 2008

Yeah.  This happened.

FANGORIA COMICS?

Nah . . . FANGORIA GRAPHIX!!

That's right, kiddies.  We've gotten the band back together!  Troy Brownfield, Fangoria Graphix Associate Editor here.  I don't have to tell you all that's it been a weird couple of years.  But Executive Editor Scott Licina, Production Manager Jason Moser, Director of New Media Development James Zahn and I are thrilled to be back where it all started.  Ever since Tom DeFeo and The Brooklyn Company took over, we've been talking about what new horrible things we could do to all you, er, do together.  The logical first step was to put the work that we originally did under the Fango umbrella in its natural place: right here, right in front of you, our most loyal readers.

SO . . . knowing that, what are you going to see?  There will be BUMP.  There will be the complete RAGE and the complete STRANGELAND: SEVEN SINS.  And in multiple languages.  But there will also be new and frightening things in the offing.  Like the DEATH WALKS THE STREETS series.  Like DOUBLOON.  Like online and downloadable comics.  Like novels.  Like graphic novels.  And more.

At this point, all you need to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.  See it at FangoriaOnline.com.

Greetings again,

ShotgunReviews.com’s own Corey Henson started a new feature recently that tracks all of the goings on at the site.  I’m copying that here so that everyone can get the latest.

Take it, Corey!

Hey kids! What time is it? That’s right, it’s time once again, for everyone to climb aboard the ho–Oops, that’s not what time it is. It’s time to take a look at what your favorite Shotgun contributors have been doing around teh internetz this past week.

Monday means another edition of Best Shots! This week, the team covers Gumby, the Batman: The Killing Joke Deluxe Edition, The Incredible Hercules and more. For more from the Best Shots team, check out Twisted Tim Janson’s review of The Executioner: The Devil’s Tools 1, Bashful Brendan McGuirk’s take on Deepak Chopra’s Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment 1, and Troy F’N Brownfield’s reviews of Wolverine: First Class 1 and New Avengers 39.

Also at the ’Rama, Magnificent Michael C. Lorah talks to John Morrow about the 50th issue of The Jack Kirby Collector.

Troy geeks out over a classic JLA/JSA team-up in a Friday Flashback about Justice League of America 219 and 220. (Dude! I have those issues!)

Squishy Steve Ekstrom reviews the superhero spoof movie called… uh, Superhero Movie. (I guess all the good titles were already taken.)

Hey, did you know that Jumping Jamie Trecker has a sports blog at Foxsports.com? Well, now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Finally, it’s time to spotlight one of our fave sections here at Shotgun Reviews. In honor of Wrestlemania weekend, we’re going to take a look at two wrestling features. First up, original Shotgun contributor Ravishing Russ Ray’s Rasslin’ Ring. Russ regularly reviews and previews TNA and WWE pay-per-views and talks about major news items in the world of professional wrestling. Also check out It Came From the Midcard, a companion piece to the Rasslin’ Ring featuring previews, commentary, and lots of YouTube videos (because posting videos is soooo much easier than doing actual work).

That’s all for this week, folks! I’m off to finish reading Grant Morrison’s JLA run. It’s sooooo good.

"Happy Easter to one and all! Whether you’re celebrating by going to church, gorging yourself on chocolate and multi-colored, hard-boiled eggs, or just sitting around the house taking naps (like me), all your friends at Shotgun Reviews hope you and your family have a great day.

What do you say we take a look at what’s been going on out there in Shotgun Land over the past week? Let’s do it, Rockapella!

The Best Shots team returned to dominate your Monday morning with reviews of The Last Defenders 1, Debbie Drechsler’s Daddy’s Girl, The Lone Ranger and Tonto1, and lots more.

Troy F’n Brownfield hits us with a couple of Best Shots Extras this week: Captain America 36 and War Is Hell 1.

And after you’re finished reading those, be sure you check out the latest and greatest podcast from the often imitated but never duplicated Shots In the Dark crew. They’ve been gone for almost a month, but it was worth the wait, because now they’ve gone video! Check out those killer production values!

Leggy Lucas Siegel talks to Matt Fraction about Thor: Ages of Thunder; Axel Alonso about Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi’s Astonishing X-Men: Second Stage; Tom Brevoort and Brian Reed about Secret Invasion: Front Line; and Tom Brevoort, Christos Gage, Jeff Parker, Brian Reed, and Mike Carey about Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust?.

Smilin’ Steve Eckstrom interviews Leah "Not as weird as her father" Moore and John Reppion about The Darkness vs. Eva; Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction about their collaboration on Uncanny X-Men; and Peter David about his upcoming X-Factor tie-ins starring Quicksilver and Layla Miller.

Did you know that Bashful Brian Anderson creates his own funny books? It’s true! It’s called So Super Duper, and it’s "a cute story about a character named Psyche, a new-ish Super Hero who isn’t quite as super as everyone else on his team. Psyche slowly discovers that his lack of superheroness may not be the only thing that is different about him."

Here’s Brian stylin’ and profilin’ as he talks about the comic on San Francisco cable access show, OUT Spoken:

..

Not only does Titanic Tim Janson review comics for Best Shots, he also reviews them here at Shotgun in his own regular feature,
Judgment Day. Check out Tim’s reviews of The Sinestro Corps War, Spider-Man: The Icon, and lots of other cool swag.

Finally, let’s take a look at some more blogs by your favorite Shotgun Reviewers:

Ravishing Russ Ray raps about news, culture, and all sorts of other topics in his own inimitable style over at The Russ Says…

Sweet Sarah Jaffe blogs about politics, pop culture, and life in general at Oh You Pretty Things.

That’s all for this week! Happy reading, cats and kittens!"

Hey all,

ShotgunReviews.com’s own Corey Henson started a new feature last week that tracks all of the goings on at the site.  I’m copying that here so that everyone can get the latest.

Take it, Corey!

"Welcome one and all to the inaugural edition of the weekly Shotgun Reviews: Bullet Points, your one-stop shop for all the latest and greatest work from across the web by the mighty Shotgun Reviews team.

Naturally, we’ll start with this week’s edition of Best Shots, which featured hard-hitting and side-splitting reviews of Cable 1, Logan 1, the Justice League: New Frontier Special, and much more.

Troy F’N Brownfield had a busy week, as he took the Wayback Machine to the 80s for a look at Bill Willingham’s Elementals in the first of the new Friday Flashback feature; reviewed the new direct-to-video feature movie, Stargate: The Ark of Truth; teamed up with Joe Casey to talk about one of the Last Defenders, Colossus.

Also at the ’Rama, Stone Cold Steve Ekstrom brought us panel reports from Megacon ’08, like Joe Quesada’s Cup O’ Joe; DCU Countdown to Crisis; another panel featuring Joe Quesada; and Billy Tucci’s Sgt. Rock panel. And if all that weren’t enough, Eks still somehow found the time to interview Ivory Madison about her upcoming Huntress: Year One mini-series.

If you want to read more from your favorite Shotgun contributors, here are a few places you can look:

Leapin’ Lan Pitts talks about comics in his brand-spanking new, awesomely named blog, Landroid’s Basement.

One of the original Shotgunners, the good Reverend O.J. Flow, covers comics, music, and whatever the hell else he wants at The Reverend’s Show.

Jaunty J. Caleb Mozzocco’s Every Day is Like Wednesday is seriously one of the best blogs about comics you’re ever going to find. But don’t take my word for it, go and read it for yourself. Make sure you peruse the sublime sketchbook. Caleb also writes for Las Vegas Weekly and Done Waiting.

That’s all for now! Join us again next week!"
