I got the chance to talk to Tesla's Brian Wheat.  It was one of the most brutally honest interviews I've ever done!  He doesn't pull any punches!

We talked about everything from getting airplay on radio to 2012!

Don't miss Tesla @ Penn's Peak Friday, October 30th for a ZZO Concert Event!

You can listen to my interview HERE under the section "Chatting with Rock Stars".

For over 20 years, WZZO has supported local and regional unsigned bands on WZZO's Backyard Bands Show.

Each year WZZO hosts our annual Backyard Bands Competition allowing the bands that reach the finals to play in front of music industry professionals including folks from labels, management, and PR.

In the last few years, we've adding yet another tool for bands to promote themselves - "NEW! Discover and Uncover" on www.wzzo.com.

NEW! Discover and Uncover features the Artist Submission program, which allows unsiged artists to submit their music for online and/or on-air consideration.  YOUR music can be heard by the masses on hundreds of Clear Channel Radio Stations across the country.

Within the next week, WZZO will begin soliciting bands for our 21st Annual Backyard Bands Competition happening this year on Thursday, Sept. 3rd at the Allentown Fair.  Grand prize is $2,000 to spend at Dave Phillips Music and Sound.

WZZO's Backyard Bands airs Sunday nights 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is hosted by Jain - she ROCKS!  Be sure to check out her myspace page!  http://www.myspace.com/wzzobyb

Candlebox played Penn’s Peak last night.  Their performance was absolutely AMAZING!  Not only are they talented musicians who love their fans, they are also amazing human beings… and THAT’S what I want everyone to know!

As you may know, my co-worker and friend – Barry Dawson – recently lost his wife of 10 years to cancer.  Lisa was a wonderful and beautiful person.  Barry and Lisa have 2 sons – ages 15 and 8.

Before the band’s show, they came by the studio to hang with me and play a few tunes.  Barry rode to the venue to pick them up and get them to the station.  So they had the chance to chat.  When Kevin asked Barry about his life, he told him about Lisa. It’s a true testament to what kind of human being Kevin is that he cared enough to even ask.

At the show, Kevin took the time to mention Barry and shared his story with the Candlebox fans.  He dedicated “Blossom” to Barry and his kids.

During my interview with Kevin he mentioned that his own father passed away in 2005.  He candidly shared an amazing and very personal story with me.  He told me that his dad visits him in his dreams and gives him advice and encouragement from the other side.

I’ve met many “rock stars” in my 25+ years working in Radio.  It’s rare when you meet one that is so open and caring and willing to SHOW that side of themselves to everyone.  Most are too worried about the “rock image” to allow that side to be seen by the masses.  But not Kevin!

I want you to know that when your loved ones die, they never leave you.  They will always be around you and if you want to talk to them, they WILL hear you and they WILL communicate back to you!  You just have to learn to listen.  They may leave you signs or come to you in dreams like Kevin’s dad does for him!

I have always tried to communicate that message to anyone who would listen.  Having someone like Kevin talk openly about it, helps me prove that point.

If you missed my interview and Candlebox’s performance in the ZZO Studios, you can listen to it on my page on the WZZO web site.

If haven’t heard about Over The Rainbow… you WILL!  It features some former members of Rainbow doing Rainbow tunes.  The line-up is:

Joe Lynn Turner

Bobby Rondinelli

Greg Smith

Tony Carey

J.R. Blackmore (Yes, Richie’s son)

I had the chance to hang with them at a practice at Greg’s house recently and they are AMAZING!  Joe’s voice never sounded better and as a band they just “gel”.

They’ve toured overseas and are doing dates here!  They’ll be at Crocodile Rock Café on July 10th.

Check out their Myspace page, you’ll find it on my top friends list!

See all the pictures from their practice on the WZZO web site.  Here’s the link:
