I have been to the shadowland I heard the empty call The hatred anorexia Misery and alcohol By their hearths I warmed myself To escape from the winter years until I saw in the window myself crying fire coloured tears
Love the only alchemy Love the killer of despair Love the patient samurai Love the Armour angels wear Love
They turned away the prophet Because she was young and full of longing Instead they turned to the magistrate Who was busy yawning
And they tried the sell me holy books And I can see their eyes are wild I caught them pouring shame and fear Into the perfect vessel of a child
But, love is the only alchemy Love the killer of despair Love the true nobility Love the Armour angels wear Love
Love will make your eyes clear The order of the universe The only reason we are here

Here comes again Blood in the vein Seven a.m., the cars come Gotta fly, gotta say goodbye Leave them before they leave me
Turning the sheets Rolling in his sleep He wants me to go faster I know that she's somewhere underneath But I don't know how to find her
Me, I'm a thief I'm a falling star I'm a photograph taken From where you are
I love you still, always will Here's hoping you'll be waiting, but I Gotta fly, gotta say good bye Gotta find out what's aching
Me, I'm a thief I'm a falling star I'm a photograph taken From where you are
So, shed your tears That's what they're for I don't expect you to understand this War
I go quietly ("And, oh, they beg me to steal") No, you don't get me ("There's nothing, nothing to feel") No, you don't get me ("And, oh, they beg me to steal")
Oh, me, I'm a thief I'm a falling star I'm a photograph taken From where you are
Shed your tears That's what they're for I don't expect you to understand this War
Me, I'm a thief ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") I'm a falling star ("Seven a.m., the cars come") I'm a photograph taken ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") From where you are ("Seven a.m., the cars come")
Shed your tears ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") That's what they're for ("Seven a.m., the cars come") I don't expect you to understand this ("Here come again, blood in the vein") War ("Seven a.m., the cars come")
Me, I'm a thief ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") Oh, I'm a falling star ("Seven a.m., the cars come") I'm a photograph taken ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") From where you are ("Seven a.m., the cars come")
So, shed your tears ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") 'Cause that's what they're for ("Seven a.m., the cars come") I don't expect you to understand this ("Here comes again, blood in the vein") War ("Seven a.m., the cars come")

Armies and ice and dirty green Newspapers, shovels sand on the breeze I think of Eliot when I smell the street and it's sometimes wise Just to shut your eyes.
Workers and lovers make their living space neat Bent out of shape over what to eat I dream of Eliot but I am discreet 'cause it's sometimes wise Just to shut your eyes.
How sure how right? Can anyone be on sight? I said I had Hope. I lied
the city in the winter the sewage the steam You fill buildings with people and they rip at the seams Somebody's suffering infected my dreams and Don't they know? it's just my old soul
How sure how right? Can anyone be on sight? I said I had Hope I lied. I lied.
So calm so wise Give him the Nobel Prize He said he had Hope He lied

Apartment in New York, London and Paris Where will we rest, we're all living on top of it It's all that we have the USA is our daily bread And no one is willing to share it
Why can't we see our fortunancy Living as legends have lived. Bane and dismannered We coax all the time Knowing that nothing is left when we die
Come along Fool A direct hit of the senses you are disconnected It's not that it's bad…it's not that it's death It's just that it is on the tip of your tongue, and you're so silent
Wanting to live and laugh all the time Sitting alone with you tea and your crime Children with kids, and people with parents Anywhich way there's no past and no presence When the day comes and all of them bums Will reveal enchanting persons Come along...
When it's a rut and baby's no luck Half of it's misunderstanding love The war we have won we're winning again Within ourselves and within our friends Come along...
