So get this: David Pence the DJ wrote a glowing review of our first CD in this month's The Bollard. It is in the print rag and on their website, so even you chil'ren of the darkness can check it out! http://www.thebollard.com/bollard/?p=3639ALSO GUESS WHAT KIDS!!!! Our dear van, the Bustic Overtone, got smashed in the face by an SUV manned by a drunkman last night after band practice. Jake has sore knees but we're OK. Van might be totally frigged though. Anyways, we might be asking a lot of bands to borrow amps at any and all future shows..... kay frieeeeeends? That is all. Hope you kids are all enjoying y'selfs. Peace be upon you all, Huak

Look what David Pence (host of wmpg's Radio Junk Drawer!) at the Bollard had to say about "Holy Sonnet:" "Malcolm Cowley suggested that prose writers could be divided neatly into two groups: putter-inners and taker-outers. If we applied his helpful rubric to musicians, Huak would fit with Mike Watt and Mission of Burma in the former category. This music is performed with agility and verve by Jake Lowry, Stefan Hanson, and Eric Loren. It's complex, challenging, yet the controlling action of "Holy Sonnet" is straightforward: a lashing out, a diatribe against the conventions of organized religion ("In the midst of / friends and neighbors / breathe the stale air / feel closer to / god and country / in the church pew / holding hands in pleated dress pants"). A couple of the song's best passages underscore a more interesting note of exhaustion and regret in Lowry's lyrics and delivery. There's a consciousness there that wants only to be allowed to reflect — or, at the very least, to rest." Thanks for the thoughtful crtique David! read this email. some names have been changed to protect the innocent. Dear Jeremy Drabalds at NE booking, We have decided not to play the May 12th deering grange hall show because, having found out more about the way NE booking operates, we cannot, in clear conscience support it. I was under the mistaken impression that 1. The tickets were cheaper ($8-$10 is just asking these kids too much) 2. The ticket money was split fairly among all of the bands playing the show 3. That NE booking was not such a for-profit enterprise (I heard rumors of paid staff). 4. There wasn't such a hierarchal attitude (see the show flier: two bands in tiny font and three bands in huge font is unnecessary and condescending). In addition, since it was difficult to get our friends to pay $8 to see us play, we would end up in the red financially. It appears that NE booking is primarily interested in sales, as opposed to helping bands (like us) who have had virtually no exposure, and therefore cannot sell 20 tickets in a week. Personally, I am more interested in fostering a music scene in the absence of this sort of cuttthroat capitalism. Thanks for the offer and I hope you don't take this personally. -jake There you have it. Sorry to those of you who were planning on attending.

Hey yall, The april 14th johnson hall show marks a new beginning for huak. After a hibernation of sorts, we awake dazed and hungry, ready to actually do this thing up right. If you're able, please come up to Gardiner to see us! We have been fine tuning the old songs and getting them ready for recording as well as working on new ones. Anywho, if you want to go, let us know and maybe we can do a caravan/carpool thing with you. hugs, jake

So, unfortunately, the show at the station got cancelled for reasons beyond our control. However, there WILL be a show at the Station soon so check back for updates. The Hamill show was a good time (no cobwebs). Thanks to everyone who listened. And yes, we are trying to work out some studio time to lay down a few tracks... Patience...patience...patience.
