yea.  like, um.  that's the news.  Mike Tabacco, a friend and collaborator of many years, has joined the live band as lead guitarist, and he's so much better than me its silly.  plus he has only 9% body fat!  lol.  everything is coming together, never the way I expect it to, but a single will be released before the end of 09.

As you may be aware, October 31st 2009 was set as the digital release date for the debut Twilight of the Idols record, "Needful Things."  In the past several weeks the Idols have attracted major label interest, high powered attorney interest, and contractual proposals from a well connected UK booking agency.  One thing they have all strongly recommended is to release a single from the album first through all available channels, which now include iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, Amazon, Topspin, etc.  and wait on making the complete album available until the new live band (coming along nicely) has a few shows under its belt in the current configuration.  The second part made some sense to me- but the first didn't.  I'm just gonna give it away to you, distribute it anywhere and everywhere you want.  It isn't stealing because I own the publishing and copyrights.  Granted I can't give away a collaboration for legal reasons, but the first single wasn't gonna be a collaboration anyways... I am currently unsigned and in a position to make these choices, for the time being.  The bottom line is that there are a lot of positive developments happening for the band, and yes, the album will be available for purchase in digital form before the end of this year.  As I'm sure you're aware, that means that shows are imminent.  I apologize sincerely for all these delays; I've had some personal setbacks, and I wasn't anticipating all the legality issues that accompany the self-release of a CD.  Hope you're all doing well, and I'll talk to you soon.

Notorious and world renowned artist Chad Michael Ward will be doing the graphic design for NT, as well as a photo shoot for the band over the next couple months. Chad has so many credits to his name its hard to know where to begin, but he did design Manson's "Lest We Forget" best of. This will likely push the physical release of Needful things into January, but not to worry- the MP3's will be available for purchase at iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, etc. October 31st.

so, um. i decided the few of u pressing me for hard industrial metal can get the very unique but much more stripped down packaging and to just go all out, send another G to Tom Baker and have him master the entire Idols record I've been working on for close to 7 YEARS NOW. It's weird now on the brink of it becoming a product... its no longer malleable. 13 songs. 6 panel digipak. ready in 2-3 months.

I'm sad to inform you that the merchandising company Trent started back in the day and helped develop into a slick operation making top quality swag is in the process of closing their doors.  John Malm and the rest of the team (Kristina is the coolest) were faced with insurmountable obstacles and had to call it a day.  I'm sure all involved will move on to great new things, and as for the Idols swag, I'll have a new addy for you to send payments to in the near future.

alas,

Brendan

Anyways, the Paydirt - Jakcpot ep. is off being mastered (by Tom Baker in LA) and I've moved into the design stage... I've got a concept for the cover, and I'll be working with an artist that works for a firm who primarily designs major label discs to sort out the rest of it. It will be a six panel full color digipak (kinda like NIN's Broken), which I realize is pretty excessive for an unsigned, unknown band's debut ep, but Ikonik has always been about wretched excess... ;)

I've slept on it a few nights and I just can't justify releasing something so heavy, something that was specifically written to NOT sound like the Idols as Idols material. It wouldn't be fair to fans of the Idols and it would be confusing for people looking for more of that super heavy electronic rock next go around when the debut Idols LP is released. I'm sorry for flip flopping on this one but it was complicated and there wasn't an easy answer. The record is being mastered now by Tom Baker, will be released as Paydirt. The disc will be called Jakcpot. And I'll have more CONCLUSIVE info to come soon. Until then I'm keeping my mouth shut so as to not place any more feet inside.

apologies,
Brendan
