Consignment info for my bookstore so far:

For Books/Zines/CD/DVDs & Other Indie Items

-Keep in mind I reserve the right to sell or not sell anything at all. Don’t even bother sending me hate speech-type stuff or anything illegal.

-Send me just ONE each of your books, zines, CD/DVDs, indie items to check out. Include your contact information: email, phone number, mailing address, and website/blog if applicable. I hate talking on the phone so I will probably never call you, but just in case include your number.

-If I decide not to stock your product, I WILL send your sample item back to you.

-Unless you’ve sent me something illegal/hateful/WTF, I will probably want to stock it in my store. So I will send you a contract consignment form. The split is 60/40, 60% of sales I pay to you and 40% I keep. You send me back the form along with the initial amount of items, which will be at least 2. It depends on space and stuff.

-When you get paid: when your stuff sells, I will send you payment via paypal. So for example say your book costs $5. You send me 2 copies after I give you the Ok plus I have the sample copy. They all sell. That’s $15 (not counting the tax ’cause I just have to send it to the state). I keep $6, and pay you $9.

-What if your stuff is slow to sell: I can’t pay you upfront but if after a year no copies have sold I will just pay you the consignment, BUT the 60/40 split in this case is 60% to me, 40% to you. That’s because if your stuff is still there after a year it’s got to help me pay rent.

Send all items/correspondence to:

Current mood:  determined
But only for a hot minute.I twisted up my ankle pretty bad a few weeks ago. It was so slow to heal I went to two bone doctors, one said it was a hairline fracture and I needed a cast. The other said it was just a grade two sprain and all I need to do is wear a brace for the next two weeks. It kinda sucks and I think I made things worse by stomping about on my ankle when it first happened, ignoring the pain. Oh well. That combined with some family issues has me delaying the soft opening of Texture to July 18th. It's still gonna rock! There is just still so much to do and I don't want to be hobbling around trying to get everything ready, and not being able to be up and about like I want to.

I'm adding a new feature to my blog Musings on Indie Publishing & Production
http://mspmedia.net/indieblog.html called Indie Artist of the Week. If you published your own book, put out your own album, design and sell your own clothes, etc I would love to feature you! We are all busy so I will just ask you a few questions; a short interview via phone or email/message, your choice. In return you get a nice write-up, your pic and/or product photo featured on the front page of the site and blog for one week, with a permanent link on a page within the blog. Free press!

That's it! holla if you want to be included, and tell other indie DIY artists, writers, photographers, filmmakers, designers, etc. that you know.

Each blog has it's own RSS feed you can subscribe to and you can also comment on each blog post. Oh yeah, consider coming to Motherfest 2007! It's free and as of right now it will probably be held at Edgewater Park in Cleveland, Ohio, but we (me and some other Cleveland moms) are reviewing other locations as well. It's August 18th & 19th, and the blog is at http://www.mspmedia.net/motherfest.html

I missed BlogHer last year and it seemed like a cool event. I checked it out and I'm planning on going, if only to their first-ever "Un-Conference" session: BlogHer Open Space. It's just $21.75, so it doesn't cost much besides transportation. I have friends in Chicago I could crash with too, it'll be fun.

After last year's crashing and burning of MamaGathering I held back to see if anyone else wanted to get the ball rolling...so far nada. So since it is now March 2007 I say we get organized! I'm calling this event Motherfest because I got some email from folks who are organizing a Mamagathering in another city and don't want there to be any confusion. No biggie to me.

The easiest thing is to have a big meet up at a park. Edgewater State Park is ideal because:

- This park is divided into upper and lower areas connected by a paved bicycle path and fitness course.

- Upper Edgewater features a renovated pavilion (where workshops can be held) which can be reserved by calling the park office at (216) 881-8141. It has restroom facilities, playground equipment and is within walking distance of the 900-foot swimming beach. A statue of Conrad Mizar, the oldest monument in Cleveland, is found near the pavilion. The circle lot adjacent to Upper Edgewater is known for being one of the best viewing sites of downtown Cleveland.

- Lower Edgewater features a swimming beach with two picnic shelters, restrooms and a concession facility. A nearby fishing pier provides access for anglers. The boat launch ramps are heavily used as there are few other boating access points on the west side of the city.

Motherfest 2007 is free, we should be able to pick up minimal advertising that would pay for rental/reservation of pavilions.

The first MamaGathering was in the summer of 2001 in Portland, Oregon, and sponsored by the producers of Hipmama, an online community of readers of the print magazine hipMama. There is no formal organization that governs the event; each year a group of mamas from a particular city decide to host the gathering. Mamagathering 2003 was in Venice, CA. MamaGathering 2004 was in Minneapolis, MN. This year it's being held in Cleveland, OH, and will draw mothers from around the country.

MamaGathering 2003 producer Dorie Lanni had this to say about the
gathering, which sums it up for me what we'd like to do with the 2006
one: "Mama Gathering is a conference and planning session and group
therapy all in one," she says. "Of course we'll talk about parenting and
the politics of motherhood, but we are also focused on feminism,
reclaiming family and reproductive health from the medical industry,
fighting racism, alternatives to mainstream education and media and how
to take all of these ideas and concepts back home to apply to our own
communities."

Motherfest 2007 will be held at Edgewater State Park.
Comments are open for now, please let me know your questions, concerns, comments, or suggestions. I will have lodging info up soon for out-of-towners.

Ok folks here's the deal. I just posted some bulletins about book projects I'm working on we need submissions for. This is not Random House, Harper Collins, or some other big-name publisher. This is Mama Specific Productions AKA MSPmedia run by me, Trula Breckenridge and a few friends and relatives. This is a laid-back, DIY, indie biz, ok?

While I appreciate folks wanting to adhere to industry standards and wanting to follow mainstream submission protocol, it really isn't neccessary when dealing with me. Please, don't make it harder than it has to be, it's really not complicated to submit. In short, all you have to do to submit to any of the upcoming book projects is to follow the call for submissions. That's it.

Please don't send me email asking what specificially I am looking for; that is in the call for submission, ok. Please don't send me email with links to your prior writing and then request that if I like what I see to email you back if I want you to submit. If you want to submit...then just submit. I'm not going to know if I will accept it until I read it, ok. Please don't send me email asking if it's the right email address!! What the - ok. and please don't send me email asking if I will publish your writing that is NOT about any of the book projects. The answer is no, so why waste your time and mine. and please don't email me constantly wanting to know if your work has been accepted. I promise you, you will get a response either way prior to the reply date posted on the call for submission. Speaking of which, here are the current calls:

Futuristic Motherhood
Teen Mama Perspectives

Mama Poems II

Last but certainly not least, please DO get the name of the project right prior to submitting!

***edited to add***

I am accepting submissions from people everywhere, not just residents of the USA.

***edited to add***

To be considered for acceptance your submission must be about...what the theme of the project is about. If  your work is tangential to the theme or you are unsure if it relates to the theme, it probaby is not right for the project. Please do not email me or contact me asking if I will accept submissons that are sorta/kinda/loosely related to the theme...all I can tell you is that to be considered for acceptance your submission must be about...what the theme of the project is about.
