Current mood:  artistic
Hello everyone out there in internet land.

It's been some time since we've blogged and we thought we'd give you a few updates as we are "alive".

We've been writing. After that we've been writing. Then we like to change it up a bit and write. We're excited about these new songs and can't wait to share them with you! 2009 is shaping up to be a great year for DBC and we're hoping to connect with you on the road.

Thanks to all of you who have downloaded our record on NOISETRADE. And those of you who don't have our debut full-length....please take it! Take it Gratis or pay what you think it's worth.

Also, the kind people at the New York based Patrolmag gave us a shout this week. Be sure to check it out at www.patrolmag.com. There some progressive and engaging conversations on this site you might find interesting as well.

And, finally for those of you that inhabit Nashville, mark your calendars for Friday, November 7th. We'll be playing 12th & Porter and it would be wonderful to see you.

Cheers!

If anyone out there is interested in art, beauty, fashion, music, and technology and how they all magically assemble the Voltron of pop culture....then you may very well be aware of Nylon Magazine. This month's issue contains an article about the indie music scene here in Nashville. We were lucky enough to be mentioned as one of Nashville's 5 bands to watch for. Thanks Nylon! It's a great mag and we're grateful for the shout!

Check the Link:

Hope to see you Nashville folks Tuesday, June 10th @ 12th & Porter.

Cheers,
DBC

Rock this link and read our little interview.

Stereo Subversion is a wonderful website...please stay a while.

Also...Paste Magazine was kind enough to include us in their "Ten Words or Less" review section in this month's issue. The Review reads:

"Smart, electronic beauty. Not what you'd expect from Nashville."

We give ourselves a "Double-YAY" for these props.

Thanks
We love you all,

Poverty. Injustice. Disease. Fact; About 99.9% of my thought process for most of my life has contained anything and everything but those things. For the .01% of the time I do think about those things, a half-ass sadness comes over me and then I'm on to the next luxurious modern worry. Like, "this traffic is annoying", "this latte isn't as good as the one I had yesterday", "what should I eat for lunch", "what friend should I call", "crap, when's that check gonna come in?", ...those kind of things. Ok, maybe I shouldn't beat myself up too much. I'm an American, and I'm a product of my environment...(??) ugh....it's hard to break out of that. I should be grateful. In fact, being artists and having the freedom to express ourselves artistically is not only something to be grateful for, but it's also a privilege and somewhat of a responsibility. We get to "describe the world around us" to quote my friend Dan. But I have to say that many of us artists all want the same thing for the most part. We all share a common dream. They all may have a different shade to them, but they're all quite similar. So, what do we do with it? What do we do with this passion that keeps us awake at night? The concept of the "rockstar" is kind of dying. It's becoming a caricature of itself. It's overdone. Everyone dresses like a rockstar now, so the rockstars are dressing "normal" to distinguish themselves. The mystery of popular music and the artist is diminishing. One cause is this very website! (ha!) It seems that bands are having to do backflips and cartwheels to remain entertaining. We live in a world of instant gratification. Long gone are the days of waiting infont of our radios to hear that amazing song again so we could record it with our cassette player.

Allow me to return from this tangent. The more that we seek love and depth in our lives, the more genuine our art becomes. The more we steer from sensationalism (which is what music does for me) the more aware we become of the concept of giving and dare I say serving. This creates a strange dichotomy. What I mean is...what musicians and artists love is in fact, sensationalism...but, truly good and genuine art comes from the absolute opposite place.
These are the things that create a civil war in my mind and keep me awake at night. These are the kinds things that we get the most out of writing about. What do we do? What can we do?

We are choosing to start a new journey.

In the world of Disappointed By Candy, we are beginning to be moved. We are becoming more and more aware of the tragedy that others can't even have dreams rather than being obsessed with our own dreams. We invite you to join in on the conversation with us as we step in to this. And, to be honest...we don't fully know what the next step is. But to bring it all back to the title of this blog...we are being moved by the fact that there are those that are in desperate need. And to quote a dear friend...we fear being unchanged by the things that profoundly move us.

There will be more blogs like this to come...as well as the updates on our music. Thanks for taking part and listening.
cheers,
J

Current mood:  thankful
We arrived in frost-bitten Winnipeg on Monday, where the phrase "cold?...he he, you shoulda been here last week" shot at our ears from all directions by local Canadians. What buffoons we were when we stepped out of the bus and yapped in a nervous unison "yeah this ain't so bad!" as we decided to go for a city jaunt. Ten minutes later the cold began to gnaw at our faces as nervous laughs turned into heavy breathing and sighs of utter discomfort. But alas, the people were quite warm and the shows were a blast.

We would like to thank Dan, Matt, Charlie and Steve for their amazing support and asking us to be a part of this tour. As well as the Jars crew, otherwise known as the Garys. Also, thanks to those who attended the shows in Calgary, Edmonton and Surry for receiving us so warmly when you didn't know what to expect.

Lastly, we are excited to announce that we will be joining the Jars boys for a considerable amount of shows in the states begining next week! AND...the record is near completion which will have a surprise added to it. We have recently revisited and oldie that is going to hopefully make the new record. Stand by...more news to come.
