OK, check this out...I went out to the Creepshow last night & had WAYY too much fun! It was absolutely fantastic. I saw tons of ppl I know, & I was just there to enjoy the show & pass out some fliers. My awesome friend, miss Penney Lane came with me, but had to leave early. So, I commenced to getting drunk & enjoying the band. Appareently I got a little too carried away in the pit for the venue's liking & got thrown out. Not to worry, I got back in with a little help from my friend X from the Hotrod Hillbillies...then rode home w/ Johnny Hootrock. My question is "Why book bands that you know will make a pit if you don't approve of that kind of conduct?" Kindof contradictory, if you ask me. But don't worry my friends...we encourage action at my shows!!!! Come find out tonight for 3 Bad Jacks!!!! I almost feel like a teenager again. It's GREAT!

We as a community in particular, but also the music industry as a whole lost one of our greatest spokespeople & assets on this moring @ 4:45 AM. Andrew Martinez, known to most as Andy Demize of the Nekromantix & The Rocketz fame passed away in a car accident this weekend. He will be missed by many, and his music by many more. Andy contributed so much to our community that it could & probably should fill a book. I was one of the many, many people that he had a chance to meet along the way, & I will miss him greatly. Any time I saw him I could expect to see a smile, & know that good conversation would ensue the minute we got together. He, Tony Slash, & Ralphie (Faraway Boys) were some of the first people to give me a shot at an interview, & Andy continued to help me out when he could from that day forward. From what I hear, that's pretty much the way he dealt with everybody. In a scene that is somewhat intimidating to the outside world, he always offered a smiling face, open arms, & let people know that they would be welcomed if they wanted to be part of it, which God knows we need more of. He touched so many people's lives in a positive way that I personally know, I can't imagine how many others there are out there. I was going to dedicate this week entirely to him, but coincidentally this week's interview has some very kind words about him, so in a way it is. I'd also appreciate it if you take a listen to the two other previous interviews posted. One is with the Rocketz that I mentioned before (Tony, Ralphie)...the other is just me & Andy on the Neromantix.  Andy's favorite beer was New Castle, so please go pick up a sixxer, sit down & enjoy it with him while you listen.

R.I.P. my brother. When we think about our fallen friend, remember, only the good die young.

SEX, DRUMS, & ROCK-N-ROLL, BABY!!!

!

Here's a little something from some others that were blessed enough to know him
Tony Slash:

It is with the greatest anguish and deepest regret that I am posting this bulletin.
Tragically, we lost Andy in a car accident this morning.
Andy touched many people, his heart was golden, his reputation as a truly nice guy was understated...he was always quick to offer a hand or a beer.
He was more than just the backbone of The Rocketz..he was the bond that kept everyone together, he was like a son to me. He made everyone laugh, if you knew him well, then go ahead, I dare you not to think of something that makes you laugh when you think of Poop, he was well of love and friendship and the little fucker could beat on a drum kit like nobody's business.
Please put Andy in your prayers if you pray, I certainly will.
We love you, Andy, I hope there's plenty of Newcastle on ice wherever you may be!

We will post am address for Flowers and will respect The Martinez Family's privacy, we will post services information if and when appropriate

I am very sad to annou..nce that our Great.. belov..ed frien..d and Drumm..er Andre..w Marti..nez AKA Andy DeMiz..e AKA Mr. Pink AKA Littl..e Guy, past away early.. this morni..ng Sunda..y Janua..ry 11, 2009 as a resul..t of a terri..ble car accid..ent in Fulle..rton,.. Orang..e Count..y Calif..ornia... My thoug..hts and Condo..lence..s go out to his Famil..y and Every..body that knew Andre..w. There.. is no words.. to descr..ibe the shock............ Andre..w was proba..bly the most lovea..ble guy I ever met and truel..y the only perso..n I've met in my life that was loved.. and liked.. by every..body met. It's just typic..al Andre..w to pull off this "..rocks..tar death.." way too early... I have no idea how Newca..stle Beer will be able to conti..nue to stay in busin..ess and I encou..rage every..body that knew Andre..w, was a fan of his work with his bands.., to drink.. one, two or many Newca..stles.. in his honor... James Hunnicut:

I just found out that an amazing guy & drummer passed away today.
Andrew Martinez.
Andy played for bands such as Nekromantix, The Rockets & many more and was a great drummer but was an even cooler guy. I had the pleasure of sharing a stage with Andy more than a few times and he always impressed me as a drummer & as a person. When The Revolvers were on tour last summer we were having a bitch of a time filling our August 1st slot in California and Andy & his brothers Al & Aaron hooked up a gig for us in super short notice at The D Club in Azusa. We played with Rockin’ Ryan, The Real Goners & Lil’ Mo & The Dynaflos that night and got a little more gas money to fund the tour in the process. Andy, Aaron & Al also took part in some impromptu jamming with us the night before when we played The Doll Hut & it was an awesome rockin' good time. Over the last 3-4 years Andy also shared gear with me & let me use his drum kit a couple of times. I included the picture below because it captured one of these moments when The Hatchet Wounds played with The Rocketz in 2005 during The Raining Blood Psychobilly Festival in Portland Oregon. I joked with him about the picture because it might have made me look like I was dissing him somehow but we both ended up getting a pretty good laugh out of it so I knew that all was well. I am sad thinking about that now because I meant to send this picture to him & told him I would but it slipped my mind & now I won't get the chance. Kim Nekroman posted a great blog on The Nekromantix Page in memory of Andy & you can read it by clicking this link-

Ok, so's I had the Three Bad Jacks show last night. It was probably the best show I've ever been to. The weredevils started out & did ok...The Hard Luck Heroes Kicked fucking ass, as always. Then to no surprise, the Three Bad Jacks rocked the fucking place. not only did I get to see some familiar faces from the past, I met some new friends as well. The Three Bad Jacks did their notorious fire tricks! Iwas so happy untill the boss told me if they did it again, I had to put them out with an extinguisher! So, after I relayed the message, they said, "Sly, go get the fire extinguisher!" They lit the bass up. I put it out. They lit the drums...I  put them out. I handed the extinguisher to Elvis. He put me out. It was fucking great! The Lowdown Shaky Chill tore it up afterwards, when all the lightweights went home...Lando almost broke his ankle from that performance! All in all, it was a great night! Not only was I able to pay the bands, but I even made a little money myself! Thank God, it looks like we may have something here. If you weren't there, you missed one helluva show!

Alright, kids. You want there to be a scene in San Antonio so that everyone can go out to see shows, right? Then drag your fat lazy asses off the goddamned couch & go to a fucking show every now & again! The reason we only have a couple of crappy venues here in SA is because no one will go anywhere else. What, are you people afraid of a newer, better venue? We seat 800 ppl & have the best sound in town for Christ's sake. Everybody complains that there aren't enough psycho shows here in SA, but when a good one comes to town, NOBODY shows up! If you want a scene, you have to support it. We can all want in one hand & shit in the other; guess which one's gonna fill up faster? The scene seems to be dying here, & I hold each & every one of you personally responsible. GET OFF YOUR FAT ASSES & COME TO A SHOW EVERY NOW & AGAIN!

Alright, here's how it is. My son has been on vacation for a little over a month now, & it's driving me crazy. Work has been hard, but hard work is rewarding. I make just enough to owe people money, but I have everything I need. For all that care to know, Skyler is still kicking ass & taking names, as usual. Smarter than than the average bear, that one. He starts kindergarten next year. I'm still somehow able to keep ahold of the lady I love, & in that department I'm like a kid in a candy store! She's great to me, & I can't imagine life without her. I still make time to enjoy myself...mostly by working on booking bands & doing interviews for (Y'all know) subculturecollective.com

It's mostly an excuse to do what I like & call it work, but hey; we all need release.

Speaking of which, All of you need to come out to my show tomorrow at the Blue Bubble Balroom
