To follow on from our recent "Best of Space" release here at Nang / Tirk towers, we were thrilled when Didier Marouani and Space producer JP Illiesco gave us a licence to tinker with the Space multitracks. Whilst nothing can touch the pure genius and mastery of the originals our limited edition mix album does present some of these classics in a post millennium light.
We open with the classic 'Magic Fly'. Here we decided we steer clear of remixes which would no doubt come up short, but we did remaster it to give it a 2009 sonic punch. Next up Slovenian Ichisan (who we recently heard described as a Lindstrom for the dancefloor) takes on 'Just Blue' from Space album 3. Sare Havliceks take on 'Fasten Seat Belts' pays homage to the synth-bass drive of the original. Staying with Album 1 Italo man-of-the-moment Bottin takes 'Tango In Space' on a funked up clavinet and slap bass detour. Bottins mix of 'Carry On Turn Me On' is also included on vinyl from the recent Tirk release. Loudery and Bottins dancefloor grooving edit of 'Mixed Up' also makes a welcome appearance.
'Air Force' is given the nu-disco treatment by Bearfunk new star King DJ. We've un-earthed a previously "buried in an un-used multitrack" performance by Didier on vocal monster 'Deliverance' and label buddies Foto do their rolling bass thing twang on it. Ilya Santana goes twiddley on 'Running In The City' and Acos Coolkas take things downtempo with a moody take on 'Flying Nightmare'. Our Russian label debut releasers D-Pulse deliver a most excellent funk-guitar heavy mix of 'Prison'. JP Illiesco describes their version as "like the way I always wanted it to sound", which we were all most honoured to hear.
We also include some long lost original mixes from back in the day. Superstar DJ (from before there were Superstar DJs) Rusty Egan gets all drummy on his take on 'Tender Force' and we go bongo-tastic with Save Your Love.
We hope you enjoy the mixes, all of us in the office wanted to own them on vinyl, so we just had to manufacture them. Rich Robinsons stunning artwork just had to been seen in 12"x12" format on our office wall.

From Andrei Tarkovsky's musical collaborator Eduard Artemyev onwards, Russians with synthesizers are always worth keeping an eye on. Acos Coolkas hail from Siberia and fit loosely into the dance sub-genres Balearic and cosmic disco, however, they have as much in common with the spaced out Moog odysseys that the likes of Tangerine Dream and Vangelis used to indulge in during the 1970s. A shimmering stoner treat, in other words.

We first came across Siberean duo Acos Coolkas last year. We were looking for a downtempo mood-setting intro piece for our TIRK02 album on sister label Tirk. Free Flight well and truly fit the bill. TIRK02 came out and did well but 40000 Tirk fans can't be wrong and "Free Flight" became one of best Tirk download sellers of 2009.Nang has now taken up the mantle for the obligatory remix package of one our favorite tunes this year. Reworks come from the Acos crew themselves who notch up the dancefloor quotient a few rungs with their own Synth-Touch mix. Their mix was inspired by the bleepy tones of the old Russian synth the Polyvoks. Bearfunk stalwart Max Essa turns in a couple of fine mixes taking his trademark slo-mo disco feel to the now famous bleepy Acos riff, we are not intentionally trying to start our own balkan-based geo sub genre of disco... but once again Slovenians Sare Havlicek and Ichisan end up on the same piece of Nang vinyl. Ichisan goes for slick pads and a loose swinging feel. For Sare its all about the sounds

Tracklist:

A1: Viajero (Original)

B1: Viajero (Acos CoolKAs Remix)

Theomatic celebrates its 10th release with An-2’s epic ‘Viajero’.
Spanish for ‘voyager’, ‘Viajero’ is a dedication to all travellers and
the spirit of travel. It’s about the fact that every traveller
searching for better place on Earth every time ends up with the same -
meets himself. The track is a result of a long work, waves that you
hear in the background is Pacific Ocean recorded at Machalilla National
Park in Ecuador while guitar was recorded in Izhevsk, Russia - An-2’s
hometown, it’s performed by Ramil Vafin, keen guitarist, guitar maker
and big friend of An-2, finally it all found it’s way together in
An-2’s St.Petersburg studio. The remix comes courtesy of the ever
excellent duo Acos CoolKAs.

  TIRK042: Various Artists - 02-Sampler..
..

1) Joubert Singers - Stand On The Word (Hot Coins Remix) 2) Drrtyhaze - Lazer Sex 3) Morten Sorenson - Start Something (40 Thieves Remix) 4) Acos CoolKAs - Free Flight (Instrumental)

The world was a slightly different place in 2006, the last time Tirk put
out a label comp (TIRK01). Obama had just become a Senator; merchant
bankers still had their snouts in each others’ troughs, not the
taxpayers pockets, Deadmau5 didn’t exist, three times as many record
shops did. Minimal still sounded vaguely edgy and interesting, disco
was the preserve of thirty year old men with beards, Annie Mac was
about to discover Dubstep…
Now we’re got Radio One jocks devoting half their shows to
Aeroplane mixes, and “edits” in danger of becoming a genre itself, and
just as record sales head ever closer to what must finally be the
bottom of the sales curve, the spirit of disco finally rises again.
Yep, there’s going to be no white horses or hanging out with Truman
Capote this time round, it’s all about being slightly too old and not
caring in Dalston basements for us, being fabulous in ill advised
cardigans from Primark . And the music…there’s always the music.
Whilst the mix CD has tracks from Todd Terje, Hercules, Richard
Sen, Chaz Jankel, Prins Thomas, Architeq and more, this sampler EP has
four exclusive remixes primed and ready for action on discerning
dancefloors.
Fresh from his warmly received Valiant Truth EP on Tirk, Hot
Coins adds a sexy lilting bassline and unhurried arrangement to the
Joubert Singers classic SOTW.
Noo Yorkers Dirty Haze unleash a classy instrumental funk weapon,
whilst from the other side of the States, 40 Thieves add some jack and
bump to Morten Sorensen's underground anthem 'Start Something. We bring
things to a close with a cool, simple and infectious electronic houser
from new kids on the (former) eastern bloc, Russian chaps Acos Coolkas.
