Just wanted to take a few minutes to share a little of our experience on our trip to Regina, Saskachewan, Canada. Also to express our gratitude to all the people that made the event possible and that we were able to be a part of such an important and needed event in our communities as native people.

Whenever we get invited to participate in native events it's always a great honor and to be greeted with native smiles, there's nothing like it in the world. It's like returning back home and being greeted by family members you have not seen for a long time. Thank you so much for your and hospitality. Eventhough the weather was cold, the warmth of the people made everything good. It was a good balance.

When we arrived at the airport there was someone there waiting for us, the hotel rooms were already set up. Everything was smooth. Unfortunately our luggage did not arrive on time for us to check out that nights performances. For this we want to apologize to the organizers because we really wanted to support the event in everyway possible.

The day of our presentation was filled with alot of anticipation on our part because we wanted to share our culture to the best of our abilities. We feel a great responsibility when we are expected to represent our ancient culture. There is alot to live up to, being that our ancestors were nothing less than life scientists. So we went over what we had planned to do and things looked good from our perspective.

When we arrived at the place where the event was to happen, we were greeted with those native smiles once again. We met a couple more of the people that made the event possible, who greeted us with alot of warmth, believe me it was needed, i mentioned it was cold, right?

Like always we were a bit nervous right before we went on stage but once we were on, it was on. We were there to represent the ancient native people of Mexiko and "Central America", it is our obligation. We began by asking the sacred 4 directions for permission, with the Huehue, the old ancient drum, for it is the way we have been taught. We started with an Aztek/Mexika openning danza (dance), wich was followed by a danza offered to our guardian of the north, Tezkatlipoca. We felt it apropriated being that for us we were so far north. From our point of view the presentation went very well. We tried to be clear with the message we were there to deliver and we felt that the people in attendance were very atentive, we thank you for that. We felt really good that after our presentation people were really interested in talking with us, we met alot of people that we hope to cross paths with in the future.

Once again we want to express our gratitude in all the attention we received in making sure that we were well in our stay in your land. Many thanks to not only the organizers but to the people who attended the event and made it possible. May the rays of the sun and the light of the moon always guide each and everyone of you as you journey on your path in this experience.

Like we say down here, TIAHUI (FORWARD), always move forward.

Peace

Chicano rappers highlight Mayan and Aztec cultures
Nov 7 2008, 03:47 PM
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Mayan prophecies, knowledge and pre-Columbian Mesoamerican mysticism are as relevant as the rescue of Wall Street, according to the band The Chicano Vuh, which rapea on the identity of their starting mexicoestadounidenses roots Ancestral.

"The Aztec calendar is a chronological map _no a table in a restaurant mexicano_ the beginnings of life," he said recently to the AP Eric Franco, one of the trio of rappers, who calls himself E-Rise. "It is as relevant as the rescue on Wall Street."

The hip hop group from Riverside, east of downtown Los Angeles, stressed that his music speaks on the knowledge of prehispanic Mexican peoples, including the Mayan prophecies for 2012, because they believe that these issues are not taught in schools as it should.

"We always talk about human sacrifices by the Aztecs, not so much about progress in Mayas and Aztecs," said Victor Mendoza, alias Victor E of 39 years. "They mock the people who loved the sun, when there is reason to worship the sun so it gives us."

The Vuh, or the Book in the Mayan language, was formed in 2002 when it joined the three songwriters mexicoamericanos of East Los Angeles.

The rappers say they chose the hip-hop as a means of expression because the pace allows them to transmit stories like them back.

"The rap, or orally, it is as if the information has been passed," said Ruben Pena, called Zero, 34 years, adding that started rapping because I did not know singing.

His interest in spreading knowledge of the peoples prehispanic led the trio to record in 2003 "Prophecies of the Jaguar," his first album, which refers to Chilam Balam, Mayan book of codices.

In March 2007 El Vuh launched "The Vuhlution," an album based on drums, flutes and tracks from hip hop.

"Our music talks about what we were, what we are and what we will, which was lost with gangs, drugs, and what we have found it," said Franco, 31 years.

Check out this video: Mexica Tiahui

Tlazo kamatl (gracias),
EL VUH

On August 13, 3114 BC some say that our Mayan elders started the long count calendar. This may or may not be true and by no means are we saying that this is fact.

With that being said, el vuh has always tried their best to do things in a good way from what little information that still exist. We've chosen today, Aug -13 2008 on the 13hr(1PM) to release what we call our "video codex". Some may call it a music video but we look at it as an ancient expression with modern technology.

In an effort to stay independent we ask all new and old fans to help post this video "codex" on every web site, myspace page, facebook, etc.
