BiographyClose Your Eyes formed when vocalist Shane Raymond met guitarist Brett Callaway while attending Hardin-Simmons University. Shane explains their first encounter, "We met in the cafeteria. Brett was wearing a Dillinger Escape Plan shirt and I was wearing an As I Lay Dying shirt, and we commented on each other's shirts. We started talking about music and realized that we had many of the same interests. " Soon afterward guitarist Andrew Rodriguez, drummer David Fidler, and bassist Sonny Vega entered the picture to create Close Your Eyes.
With a vast range of influences from pop punk to jazz to hardcore, the band set forth to write music that is compelling musically and inspirational lyrically, which is evident in tracks such as "Friends Are Friends Forever" and "Song for the Broken". Although some have categorized the band as Christian rock, that is something they don't intend to capitalize on. Shane confirms, "We don't hide our faith as Christians. It's very evident in the lyrics, but we don't push it on people. Many of the kids we play for have a negative, pre-conceived notion about Christianity. They see people who try to force it down their throats, and that's not what it's about. Christianity is about love and acceptance, and our desire is to show people that."

Current mood:Listening to Eldridge
Well I am sitting in the control room of a studio right now just waiting to start tracking for the day. Everyone is tired and walking around like zombies so I figured it was a good time to post a new blog.
WE ARE RECORDING A FULL ALBUM!!!
with Chris Goodwin doing production and engineering. He is a man of many talents, some of which are looking pretty , having piercings, wearing tight pants, setting up mics, tricking me into unrolling a huge snake, being a cool guy, being late, getting really weird sicknesses, owning a stage, having a cute laugh, and being an all around good musician, producer, and engineer. I am very happy with his work so far.
Tracking is going really well Chris (Coltman) has gotten through all but 2 songs on drums so far. Usually recording is a very stressful time, but thus far is has not been bad at all. We are doing nine tracks so it is going to take a while...don't expect anything real soon...maybe a few months...but just know we are working on it. We are going to be basically living in the studio for the next couple weeks, and then making trips there whenever we are out of school.
We have a show tonight at Java Jazz which I am pretty excited about. I think it is going to be a great show. And thank you in advance for everyone who comes.
Love,
--Brett
