(Flashback to pride 2004)

So this Sunday is Pride here in Chicago. This summer (August to be exact) will be 9 years living in Chicago. I didn't go to pride my first summer here because it had already passed. The 2nd year I went late. Then the one after that I went and saw the parade. But now it's like you've seen one parade you seen them all. So I go to get wasted!! I am sure I'll have some stories to tell after Sunday. In true Joe tradition I took off Monday, hangover Monday, as I call it. So I was just remembering some of the funnier things that happened years past. So leave a comment and share your stories for those of you who've experienced Chicago pride...some of my faves:

• My first time I went was w/ my friends Kelly and Marlene and we met some Colombian man at Spin who kept telling us "I love you, I love you" while groping all three of us and insinuating he wanted to have a four-way. LOL.

• One year at Roscoe's we were all super wasted and at some point we left to go to Circuit. Well it turns out that we kinda forgot my friend Rocío. She was so drunk she fell asleep on a bench at Roscoe's and eventually got kicked out...

• Another time at Roscoe's I got so wasted, that apparently spilled some group of lesbians pitcher. I don't remember much but I guess one of them yelled at me and I started bawling! LOL. Thanks Matt for consoling me. Lesbians can be mean!

• Another year I had gone to a coworkers party and needless to say we got super wasted and after waiting in line for like an hour to get into Circuit I picked a fight w/ some guy who was being thrown out. I was telling him "Bitch you need to leave" and words were exchanged. Finally I turned to him and said "Bitch, go change your cotex". If you don't know there is a song by BWP called "Cotex". Check it out. And this was all told to me after the fact cause I don't remember any of it. I guess I also dry humped Bootylicious! LOL

• Last year I ate my Milwaukee Sista Eddie's pizza that fell on the ground. Yeah good times.

So post some of your funny drunken stories in the comments!

So I got the idea to do this after seeing this. Basically this guy counted down the 10 songs that made him Queer. So I figured I'd do my own list. Obviously these songs didn't make me queer, honey I was flaming out the womb!!! But they sure as hell helped!! Without further ado...

10: Madonna Lucky Star. From the ages of 6-10 I was obsessed w/ Madonna. The culmination of my Madonna fandom was when I was 8 my friends and I had "rock parties" where we would dress up in our coolest clothes (mind you this was 1985) and lip synch to our favorite songs. I chose this song and I wore breakdancer clothes and somehow knew the choreography to this entire song. Go figure. Did I mention I also broke my ankle at age 10 trying to roller skate/dance to Papa Don't Preach?

9: Exposé Come Go With Me. I could have chosen any Exposé song, but this was the first one I ever heard at age 10. Because of Exposé I became obsessed w/ girl groups and the cheesiest musical genre to ever exist, Freestyle! My dream came true when in late 06 they reunited and performed in Milwaukee (my hometown) and I got to meet them!

8: Patricia Manterola Niña Bonita. Let's fast forward a little bit to 1997. I was 20. Still doubting my sexuality, and then this song comes out. It was like a gay disco romp en español, and I could never understand why I liked it as much as I did. LOL.

7: Dolly Parton 9 to 5. If you look through my pictures you might have stumbled upon a photo of me at age 10 dressed as Dolly Parton for Halloween. Yes you read that right. Age 10 I went to school for Halloween dressed as Dolly Parton. And when I was a kid I not only loved this song but also the movie of the same name. Who knew Dolly would be my first drag experience?

6: Tiffany Radio Romance. Most gay men I know, when they find a diva they stick with them for life. In my case there are too many to name that I've been faithful to over the years. But if there is one that holds a special place in my heart all these years still it would be Tiffany (did I mention I met my partner at a Tiffany concert back in 03?)...what better song than this camptastic classic (in my book at least). Cheap video, dated song for 1989, but I couldn't get enough of her. Still can't. Adore this woman.

5: Samantha Fox Naughty Girls Need Love Too. Can there be anyone sluttier than Samantha Fox? She was a sexpot and probably every boys crush back in the day. Not mine, I think I wanted to be her! LOL. I remember parading around in my room lipsynching to this like there was no tomorrow. Samantha not only taught us that naughty girls need love, but that more importantly trampy ones do too!

4: Vanity Pretty Mess. After seeing the craptastic 80s movie The Last Dragon I fell in love w/ Vanity and begged my mother to buy me her cassette. I remember listening to it a few times and then it mysteriously disappeared. I think my mom must have heard this song that her 8 year old son was gushing over. What do you think?

3: Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch Good Vibrations. Ok so you're probably thinking to yourself, this song isn't gay like the others (ok other than the fact that Loletta Holloway is wailing on this track like there's no tomorrow). Oh but it is. See I was about 15 when this song came on and that is prime puberty time. Watching a buff Marky Mark parade around in his oh so tight Calvin Kleins grabbing his junk was like porn to me. Let's just say there were some special moments between Marky Mark, me, some vaseline and my hand. LOL.

2: Bibi Gaytán Mucha mujer para ti. So if you don't know, at age 15 I had to relearn how to speak Spanish. I haven't always been the fresa that you all know and love today. Around that time I became infatuated w/ Spanish language television, music, etc. There wasn't a Sunday you wouldn't find me glued to the TV. Why? Siempre en Domingo introduced me to Bibi Gaytán. My god was she gorgeous!!! This song roughly translates to "Too much woman for you". I made my parents take me to see her in concert at a festival here in Chicago (Viva México) and years later I would finally meet this woman. Here in Chicago, how about that? Might I mention she is still absolutely stunning! I think my parents had a glimmer of hope that I liked women because my bedroom in high school was plastered w/ her pictures, posters, etc. In actuality I think I just wanted to be her too. What better way to learn Spanish that via slutty singers!

1: Martika More Than You Know. Ok you knew this was coming. Could it be anyone else? If you know me, you know Martika and I go way back. I'm talking Kids Incorporated people. By the time I was 12 this woman had become my life. LOL. Here was this gorgeous latina pop singer, finally someone I could relate too. Didn't you know I was a gorgeous latina pop singer on the side? LOL! I remember that she opened for Rick Astley and they were playing the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. Well the one and only time in my life I was grounded was the same day this show was taking place. I remember I cried my eyes out because I couldn't see Martika in concert. Oh what a little drama queen! Who knew years later amidst her obscurity we'd end up emailing one another (not w/out some drama of our own but that's all over now). To this day I have a fondness for ladies w/ long chins and short hair. I can do a mean Martika, just ask anyone who caught me at karaoke the other night. So without further ado, the 1 song that made me a big ol homo...

This was a blast! I am going to have to come up w/ some more Top 10 lists to share w/ you all!

So how freaky was it that there was an earthquake early this morning? I woke up around 4:30am because I could feel my bed shaking. I thought at first it was a semi passing by, or that I was just imagining it. Chus, our dog, was barking like crazy so that should have been my first sign. When I woke up this morning I turned on WGN like I do every morning and all they were talking about was the earthquake that took place in Southern Illinois. How do you guys in CA deal with this all the time? It was so strange. I guess there were reports that people felt it all the way in my hometown of Milwaukee. How bizarre.

So in commemoration of today's quake, let's celebrate by jamming out to Martika's version of Carole King's "I Feel The Earth Move". It was a Top 30 hit in 1989. Ahhh the late 80s my favorite era of pop music (right along with the early 90s). Anyone who knows me knows this chick is the bees knees in my book :)

I just finished reading Tori Spelling’s autobiography sTori Telling! I couldn’t put it down! I’ve had a thing for Tori ever since I saw Donna Martin grace the screen on Bevery Hills 90210. Like any teenage in the 90s, 90210 wasn’t just a TV show it was an obsession. I remember writing notes to my friends (all girls of course) Freshman year talking all about the previous night’s episode. What losers we were. LOL! My bedroom growing up was plastered w/ whatever teen idol I was obsessed w/ at the moment (all female of course...I wouldn’t dare hang up that crotch grabbing poster of Marky Mark back then, even though I really really wanted to), and Tori was not the exception.

I loved her even more after seeing her in Trick:

And don’t get me started on her short-lived VH1 show So NoTorious. If you have never seen this show, netflix it, download it, buy it...it’s hilarious! A total satire on herself, plus there’s Loni Anderson as her mom and the dreamy Zachary Quinto as her gay best friend. Yum!

I even love her bad made for TV movies and reality show on Oxygen. How much do I love Tori? I own a Donna Martin doll. Homo say what?

Oh yeah!

So I have lived in Chicago for more than 8.5 years now. Since I’ve lived here there is still something that I just can’t grasp...the grid system. Where I’m from (mootown) if you want to know where something is located, you just say "Oh it’s on blank street and blank street". You know the two streets where it intersects.

But here everyone says oh it’s 1800 West. Huh? Numbers = Math. Joe + Math = no good. I failed algebra my Freshman year of high school, took it over as a sophmore and went as far as Algebra 2. One of the main reasons I went to art school was because there was NO MATH required. LOL. Anyway back to the grid thing. Maybe some day I’ll grasp it, but for now the Milwaukeean in me still prevails in that sense. It’s probably one of the few if you think about it. Oh and that I say "bag" I pronounce it "BAYg".

In a totally unrelated topic, have you seen Madonna’s new album cover? Tragic. And her new song. She hasn’t done anything interesting since Erotica. I’m glad I’ve moved on.

I've had a crush on Javier Bardem ever since I saw him in the Spanish film Jamón Jamón way back in the mid 90s.

Photobucket

If you've never seen it, do so now. You'll find out why Javier made me so moist in the panties. Is it hot in here? Ironically enough this was the film that he and current gal pal Penélope Cruz first starred in together. And in an odd twist of fate I met her at the airport in London when I was in high school (but that's another blog entry of its own).

Anyhoo I've continued to lust after this "slab of meat w/ a man on the side", as the hilarious Chelsea Handler described Javier on her show (no wonder I love her so much she's also in lust w/ him), all these years.

So there really is no reason for this post other than to drool over Javier. Shall we commence?

Photobucket

He looks so sexy in a suit!

Photobucket

He's just so manly!! Look at that jaw, I just want to lick it!

Photobucket

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Photobucket

I even love his "chiclet" teeth!!! Ok I think I am done lusting for today. Thank you for letting me lust via my blog. I think I need a moment to myself.

Thanks to those of you who asked how I am doing. I feel much better. Still have a slight cough, but otherwise I feel a lot better. Not as awful as I did a the past 3 days.

I'd like to announce I finally have entered the 2000's. Up until very recently I've had the same TV I had since I was in high school. I graduated in 1995 so you know that thing is old! By my guestimation, it was probably purchased sophmore of junior year. So we're talking possibly 1993! Anyhoo it finally died. Hey at least I can say it led an interesting life. It made it all the way out to Chicago with me. Anyhoo after doing my income taxes early like I always do, I anxiously awaited my return and figured, hey I deserve something this year! So I did what any boy w/ a wad of money burning a hole in his pocket would do...I bought a new TV!

I am not technical or anything, but it's quite nice. HDTV, blah blah, 32". Loves it. Makes watching Top Model all the more enjoyable.

Speaking of...I think I have my least favorite after seeing the official first photo shoot. Marvita. Her picture was fine but she just irks me. Not to mention she looks like Chris Rock in drag. Am I the only one who thinks Allison totally looks like Sarah Silverman???

Enough ANTM...I wanted to take a moment and share w/ you a singer that I've recently discovered. I stumbled upon her over at cdbaby.com. Her name is Patricia Vonne.

She's recorded 3 albums to date, so far I've only purchase her first 2. I am in lurve w/ this woman. She's got a cool voice, kinda reminds me of Belinda Carlisle. Turns out she's director Robert Rodríguez's sister. Her music is country/rock and I can't get enough of it. Check her out http://www.myspace.com/patriciavonne.

That's all for now. Just trying to get over this damn cold. Heading to Milwaukee on Saturday. ttfn.

Ok everyone, if there is one thing I totally fag out over, it's America's Next Top Model! Tonight is the premiere of Cycle 10...I know what you're thinking But Joe, this is the 10th cycle, it's the same sh*t..., oh but it's not! Hello there are new girls, anything is game! I don't know why I love this show so much. It's not like any of them go on to real modeling careers (save a select few); but something about bitchy women duking it out just gets me going. As my cousin Chuy pointed out to me once when trying to explain why he likes football so much, he's like It's like your 'Top Model', you wanna know who's on top, who's doing bad, etc., keeping track, blah blah. Never did I think 'Top Model' and football would be working together to make sense to me. LOL. Don't forget 'Top Model' starts tonight! I am not going to try and predict a winner because I am always wrong.

Photobucket

But do you want to know why I am most excited? Because wherever there is 'Top Model' there are Rich's hilarious recaps over at fourfour!

In other news I wanted to turn everyone's attention to a new music blog my other half has started (and I'm helping him with).

Photobucket

Is that Mexican telenovela actress Erika Buenfil you ask? Why yes it is. Did you know she had a singing career in the 80s? No? Well come on over to our blog and find lots of musical goodies like this, and acts you've never even heard of! Visit buenfilcantaba.blogspot.com today!

Ok peeps I have to go to some work meeting or something like that. Peace out.

Do any of you have as much trouble getting up in the morning as I do? I swear even with three alarms I still always fall back asleep!

Today it happened again, for the second day in a row!! I have my regular alarm that goes off at 6:30am and then I set 2 more on my cell. Well once again after the third one went off I dozed back to sleep...I woke up at 7:40!!! By the time I go walk Chus and come back, feed him, shower, etc. It was already 8:30 by the time I left today. Not to mention the Blue Line SUCKS BALLS and is always backed up. I didn't get on a train until 9:15. Way to show up on time. LOL. Oh well.

In other news I just found out that Victoria Beckham is going to do an autograph singing next Friday (February 15) at Saks Fifth Avenue on Michigan Ave!! OMG I saw want to go. Unfortunately I heard she'll only be there for 1 hour. Boo! I would love to go and thank her for making the fiercest Solo Spice song EVER....

..

Before I forget congrats are in order for my little cousin Libby on her engagement to Darryl! Congrats guys!!!!

And I'd like to wish a very happy birthday to my ya-ya sister, Freddy!!! Welcome to you're 30s :)

Hello fellow myspacers. I haven't blogged in ages it seems. I have my regular blog but for whatever reason I don't feel like writing there anymore.

I figure I may as well use this space to express whatever it is. Anyhoo I just got back from Mexico (Durango to be exact) where I visited my father, attended my cousin's wedding, etc. It was a quick trip but it felt really good. You can see pics here and here.

As usual, whenever I go to Mexico I buy CDs up the wazoo! And this trip was no exception. I picked up some new bands that are worth checking out:

First up is Varana. I totally have a hard on for the drummer. He's so dreamy. LOL.

Another new group that was produced by Richie Arreola from Belanova is Purpura Suite.

Before I forget...check out the coolest thing ever!!! These 2 guys from Chile have taken it upon themselves to recreate episodes of Jem & The Holograms using the dolls!!! OMG it is the coolest thing EVER!!! Check out their website as well...El Culto de Jem!

Outrageous!!!! Ok peeps I'm out. Enjoy the snow. I know some people hate it, but I for one LOOOOOOOOOOVE winter. I'll take it any day over a hot sticky gross summer.

p.s....did I mention how geeked I am that María Daniela y su Sonido Lasser are coming to Chicago??? Woo hoo!!! About time!!!
