Album review - Rock Pulse

Capelle – Money Now, Money How, Money When
Upping sticks from his native land in 2006 to pursue his musical career on an international level, Australian born Nic Capelle, currently residing in London, evidently possesses plenty of conviction and confidence in forging his own path, something that shines through on his debut album ‘Money Now, Money How, Money when,’ a varied and polished set of tunes performed in an understandably purposeful manner. Carried upon a curious yet arresting combination of strutting hard rock guitars, disco tinged beats, pulsing bass and unobtrusive synths, there’s an almost retro vibe in the air on the likes of ‘You Aint Got Ya Way’ and ‘So Lonely,’ a mood that’s complemented and enhanced by Capelle’s own distinctive voice, which propels the album along and provides a much needed focal point among the blend of tone and style.
At times a classic, expressive hard rocking vocal delivery (Think somewhere between Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother and Daniel Johns of Silverchair, with a touch of vintage Bowie), at others verging on the breathless freestyling of Hip-hop, Nic may divide opinion by opting out of a straightforward melodic or artificially gruff tone, but for those looking for something out of the norm, while retaining a high level of competence, his voice alone could go some way to selling this album. Supported by an ever changing line up of musicians, one can imagine this band capturing that elusive mainstream-underground crossover audience, as evidenced on closing track ‘Looking in a Mirror-Dirt Mix,’ a pounding dance number that could feasibly go down well at your local club; if Capelle can capitalise on this vein of form and get his music heard in the right places, there a good chance that this particular gamble could pay off in a big way.
8/10

Hey dude ranchers,

We need your help to choose the best tracks for our soon to
be released album "Money Now, Money How, Money When".
We've had very heated discussions about which ones should
make the cut, so rather than fight it out like men (and lets face
it, Nic has the biggest muscles) we figured we should defer the
decision to you, our loyal followers.

Check out the tunes at : http://www.capelle.co.uk/your-album

Email us at music@capelle.co.uk and tell us which ones you dig the most and why.

Now we aren't giving away some shitty prize to tempt you to
participate. But if you take the time to listen and choose, you'll
be credited on the album.

Thanks to all who made it out to the Fly last night.

What a great venue! Everyone agreed that the sound was great both on and off-stage. Thanks to you all there was great energy in the room and Chris managed to stop complaining about the broken drum throne. Get this. They call those glorified milk maid’s stools that drummers sit on a throne. Let’s have a show of hands. A delusion of grandeur perhaps? We’ll let you guys know of the next gig as soon as the details have been finalised.

Before I forget, anyone looking for our songs, drop us a mail and we’ll send it to you.

Keep it tight and shiny.

....................

Well the weeks over! I take it you’re out getting smashed with your work buddies? Perhaps your boss is being a jack ass, cracken onto you and you’re having to humor him by letting him grid up against you on the dance floor? Before you loose ya cool and slap that asshole in the face, tell him that this Sunday Capelle is playing. Get him down to the gig and I’ll happily pay fat face a visit with a stiff uppercut.

So this Sunday, come sing along, forget you got work the next day and let’s make this shit look good!

Get there for 8pm, send us your name and how many peeps you want on the door, cheap tickets are almost gone!

Yo peeps,

We're headlining the Bowling Lanes tomorrow (wednesday the 223rd), so get your ass's down and join us in manic celebration. I'm gonna run through the ally like an insane badger who's head got ripped off by a chicken. Come spread the word, drink and get belligerent!
