That's right, kids. I'm resolved to not get drunk this weekend, especially considering the last 3 weekends should have gotten me my quota of beer, partying, and retardedness for quite some time. I went to the warrior transition briefing today. Not nuts, just so all of you know. I talked and opened up to my feelings and listened to everyone else vent about the good/bad things they experienced in Iraq, and no, I still don't want to get out of the Corps.
I watched Munich the other day, and it was a really long movie. It was good, but man, it was 0100 before I finally went to sleep. That's way too late when you have to wake up at 0530 in the morning. I thought the acting was really good, and I liked the "unintended consequences" theme that Spielberg played with the entire time. Of course, he's going to pander to your softer emotions and try and make you cry, but considering the way the last 3 years have played out, it's a movie that I think everyone should see. There, I'll get off of my soapbox.
What's on my plate? Well, I have to get that package turned in so that I can start making my lateral move. I don't want to get stuck with a duty station that I don't want, and that means getting this done and over with in the next 30 days or so. That way, if it goes down the toilet, I can pick something else or at least get a duty station that I like. Other than that, I'm scheduling my advaced open water class, so that I can dive deeper and later and all that good stuff. Deep water or night diving is going to be really cool. 100 feet below the surface of the water. That's 3 atmospheres. The ambient pressure at that depth is 3x the earth's surface. Blows my mind.
Alright, so I know that I suck at getting the new pictures up. I have no excuse, but if you want one, I've been drunk. It's just that when I take pictures, they're usually in some kind of series, and I have to organize them, and flickr only allows you so many photo sets, so I have to pay for the premium service so that I can set up the pictures the way I want to. If any of you have access to or knowledge of a really good photo dump online that let's you organize everything any way you want it for really cheap, lemme know, and I'll re-do everything this weekend, otherwise, you have to wait. I'll more than likely do it this weekend regardless.
I've been training to take over another marine's job because he's going on recruiter's assistance. He gets to go back home for free and I doubt that he's going to do anything. So I hate him. Other than that, everything's peachy with me.
So, not crazy, not drunk, pretty happy, and hopefully in the ocean way over my head pretty soon. Oh, and procrastinating about the photos. Yep, that's about it. If you have skype and you wanna talk to me for free, you can find me at devildog1978. Just try and let me know before hand that you're going to call, so that the program is up and running, and I get the chance to pick up.
Alright, that's it. Catch you all later.

According to Amanda, I'm nuts. I'm trying to get out of the field of mechanics into something more technical, more challenging, and more rewarding, and I thought that EOD would be the way to go. They have insane signing bonuses, they're deployed alot, and the job they do is so hard and so important to all of the soldiers, sailors and marines that are in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now for those of you who don't know what EOD is, the acronym stands for Explosive Orninance Disposal. We're the bomb squad that disarms IEDs or blows them up safely so that they don't injure someone else. We get rid of all of the weapons caches that the insurgency and baathist loyalists hide all over the country. I dunno. I'd hate to think I was actually insane, but I don't think I am. I think I just want to contribute more to my time in the Marine Corps than just turning a wrench. I also don't want to get stuck behind a desk. I'm not a bureaucrat. I'm not necessarily someone with a deathwish either, but I do thrive on a certain amount of pressure and chaos. I guess when people ask me what I do for a living, or what I did when I went to Iraq, I'd like to be able to say more than "I turned a wrench."

Current mood: calm
Since I've been on here, or let any of you know what's been going on with me, or just sent you a few new pictures. Well, all your dreams have been answered. Well, the ones that pertain to your wishes for new content on this here little webpage thingy. Some of you may be familiar with the craziness that ensued this weekend, some of you may not. I'll try to be brief, but I'll probably fail.
You may be wondering where the new photos are. They're at flickr, and as soon as I figure out how to invite all of you to go see them, I will. I've got the free account, so I can only upload so many at a time, and we'll see how many that is in a minute. Once the pictures do get loaded, youmay wonder why there's only one or two of the dragon boat races that I went to this weekend. Well, that's because I only got to spend about an hour there. I took as many pictures as I thought would be interesting, but I wasn't there long enough to get much. I had to go back to base for a sutpid safety brief.
Later that night, I went to this little hole in the wall bar off of Kokusai Street, and had a blast. There were two really smoking bartenders there, and while I didn't get comped any drinks, I did get a couple of significant discounts, thanks to a friend that happened to weasel his way behind the bar for the evening. The next day, I was awake, painfully, at 6:40 IN THE AM for a rousing few games of paintball. I got really dirty, really smelly, really sweaty, really, really dirty, and shot a couple of times. It was alright, I gave as well as I got. I hate little kids who play paintball though. They just sit around and wait for the next person to walk by (be it friend or foe) and then they just light 'em up. Little bastards.
So I thought my Saturday was done when, tired, dirty, sweaty, etc. I dragged my ass into the shower back in my room. Nope. Heilman, the same guy that dragged me out the night before, who drank as much, if not more, than me, was all ready for round two. Apparently, he hadn't been doing anything but recovering all day. So, I'm the idiot who said yes. Like I said, good looking bartenders do something for me...
Which brings me to Sunday. You know why there aren't any pictures of anything on Sunday? Because you wouldn't have seen anything but the inside of my bed (calm down ladies). Seriously, I wanted to die. In fact, I thought about throwing up on Monday morning when I went to PT. I learned something important about all of this, but I drank so much that I've forgotten it. All in all, a fun weekend, and I can't wait to do it again next weekend. Haha.
Well, that's about all for me. I hope that the pictures are cool and I hope that you all get to see them. It works out so much better this way than trying to post them on here. I'll still keep a few of them around, though, just so you don't have to go hunting so far.

Just giving everybody a quick heads-up to what's going on with me, and what's going on in my head. Wow, it is so different to have weekends off. The week just flew by, and I didn't really do anything. I hope to continue the tradition of doing very little next week. I'm still bitter about the whole leave thing, and I don't know why.
So one of my friends came back from Korea on Thursday, and I hung out with him most of the weekend...him and his Japanese friend with a car. I actually didn't spend a ton of money on cabs this weekend. I can actually go somewhere on this island! I can actually see things here. It's going to be so cool. I think next weekend, Cole and I are going to head out to a totally different city than Naha and see what the partying is like. Or go to the aquarium...or go to these really cool old Japanese houses. Like "The Last Samurai" old. I'll definitely get a ton of pictures for all you guys. I'll take a picture of tiny little Nozo, too.
The telephone should be hooked up by Monday, folks. I was hoping that it would be turned on last week, but the craziness of checking in made me miss alot of things, and not just the phone. I forgot to get my PPD read, so I have to get that again, and I wasn't able to make it to the warrior transition brief (where they make sure that I'm not a crazy psycho-killer.) But next week should slow down considerably, so I'll get the phone hooked up. If any of you want me to call you, just leave your numbers. If I don't already have them. Becky, you'd better leave your number, because I'll be damned if I can remember it.

Current mood: chipper
So, I'm in the process of checking in to my old company, something that could take about 2 days. I'm managing to stretch it out for a week, we'll see if we can run through half of next week as well before I actually have to get dirty again. I know, I'm really lazy. But I've earned it.
So what's new? Half of the company is in Korea right now, so things are really laid back, and we're not too stressed out. That also means that nobody is running or doing any kind of physical activity, which means that I have to be motivated enough to do it on my own (ugh). Those of you who saw me when I was home on leave know how well I motivated myself to excercise. It's only slightly easier here, since I don't have so many people who want to hang out with me.
Other than that, things are running pretty smoothly. I'm trying to set up about a thousand appointments with other people, from getting my teeth cleaned to making a lateral move into another job. It's going to be a busy month. However, since I had the time, I wanted to post a few new pictures for those of you who live in areas that are cold/damp/grey right now. I've never said I was an intrinsically good person; that's always been something that you've inferred from interacting with me. That being said, I really like to gloat about the scenery here. HA!

Like I said, I'm so much happier now that I'm in my room, and settled in, and...yeah. I have a seaside view. One of these days it's going to be really sunny, and I'll take a picture of what I get to wake up to, and I'll post it here, and you all can envy me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Current mood: drained
I've never hated to travel so much as I have in the last 6 weeks.I've been waiting to get on a plane here in Raleigh/Durham for the last 5 hours (make that 6) now, and I think I've had about 3 hours of sleep in the last 36. At least I don't have to deal with ssgt Cave any more (I hope). What a putz. And someone stepped on and broke my glasses, which means that I have to have contacts in for the next 2 days, probably longer, depending on when I can get to the optometrist for another check up and prescription. Ugh.
Kinda sad breaking up "the group". I pretty much lived with the same 4 people for a month, and now we're all split up, eventually heading back to Okinawa, but still. I think I'm the only Marine going to Okinawa on my plane to Philly. Not to worry, though. There's a cute li'l tanned number sitting about 5 seats away from me, and she's playing with her hair. Probably way to high maintenance for my taste, but nice to look at.
Man I can't wait to get out of this state. I think I'll even enjoy being in Pennsylvania where, apparently, the asshole saturation is quite a bit higher. I'm really getting to hate flying long distances, though. I'm pretty sure I have restless leg syndrome, because about an hour into the flight, I feel like I have to get up and do about a hundred laps around the plane, just to get my legs to relax. They get all twitchy and uncomfortable, they start to itch, and it's really hard to get them to calm down. I usually don't sleep at all.
Couple of quick notes for all of you that go see movies. Lucky Number Slevin is the BOMB. It's so ridiculously good, that I'm probably going to see it again once I get to Okinawa. Great, great, great acting all around. Nice plot, and outstanding post production editing. As always, Bruce Willis plays a bad-ass, but his part is so slim that he really has to extend himself to make his presence felt, and he does so really really well. Willis is definitely one of those actors that just gets better and better with age. Next movie that rocks; Inside Man. Spike Lee is so well known for examining social issues in his films that he is oftentimes forgotten as just a really great filmmaker and storyteller. This movie, while it explores a post-9/11 American mindset, amoral politicians, and favor-currying, it doesn't shove these things down your throat, and that allows this wonderful and engaging story to entertain you without lecturing you. Denzel Washington shows that there is no let up in his game; he's still a brilliant, vibrant, and charismatic personality, delivering a highly charged performance that is only made more incredible when paired with Clive Owens' sorta-creepy, kinda funny, very witty, snarky, egomaniacal Russel. Likewise, Jodie Foster turns in a performance that is so unlike anything she's ever done before, and you leave the film knowing why she's one of the best. Really, I can't say enough good things about either of these films, if you get the chance, see both of them over the course of a slow weekend, and you will not have wasted any of your time. Ultraviolet sucked bigtime. That's all I have to say about that.
So that's about all I have to say this time around. Next time I update or look at this, I'll probably be in Seattle or Okinawa...maybe Alaska.
God I hate traveling. Did I mention that?

Current mood: blah
So, I went out last night, just having a little fun, and I was really trying to be good and stay away from beer and not drink much at all. Why did everyone else have to be in a PARTY mood? I'm so miserable right now. And they're talking about going to see a movie in a few hours. Fuckers. Every time I feel like partying, they shit out on me. Fuck, 'em
So other than that, I'm in a really good mood. I hope this thing really helps me keep up with people. I didn't think there'd be any easy way to keep up with Kevlar, and I had no idea that Aud and Kyle would track me down and add me to their friend list either. I think Aud posted something about how cool it is when an old friend kind of wanders back into your life, and I agree. I personally half expected Kyle to have wandered off somewhere warm with a beach. So, this myspace thingy might actually work out.
To those of you who are pissed at me because I haven't actually talked to you, yes I'm a shit. There's no excuse, I sit around all day watching tv and taking naps, and now that it's the weekend, I don't even have to wake up in the morning if I don't want to. Whenever I have to go out, it's either to make sure the platoon is still alive (roll call) or I'm drinking. So for those of you who are desperate to talk to me, or are desperately wanting my attention, I'm just a fucker. Sorry. Oh, and by the way, I'm not really big on the bulletin board stuff where I add my name to a list or think up 5 questions to ask, or something like that. I never know how to send them to multiple people, and it takes me a really long time to think sometimes...
Well, that's about enough for now...I never know how to put down what I'm listening to, so I'll just tell you. When I was back home, I found a bunch of my old Lords of Acid CDs, and I'm lovin' em. Right now I'm listening to the "Lust" CD.

Current mood: blank
Whew...what a day. What a week... So, as I said, I'm in the Marine Corps, and I just got back from Iraq. Everyone who knows me knows how much I've been bitching about all the crap that's been going on the last week, but it's just been ramped up by the infuriating way the decision makers have been screwing around with those of us who are supposed to get back to Okinawa. We're supposed to fly 300 Marines out of some rinky dink airport "sometime this week...hopefully." Wah? What in the hell are we supposed to do with that? I live out of a bag right now, first sergeant, care to step it up a little bit? The military is such a huge giant mess of bureaucracy and bullshit that I'm no longer amazed at how much we spend a year on defense. We're spending all that money doing things the hard way. On a plus note, it's not like I have to go to work or anything, I just show up for an accountability formation and then I get the rest of the day to myself. Which usually includes drinking and driving around (not at the same time, jeez). It keeps me amused. On a related note, we went to Wilmington NC to see the USS North Carolina, a WWII era battleship. It's gotta be one of the coolest tours that I've ever been on. I got hooked on real bit boats when I was a little kid and got to play around on the Lexington, which is an aircraft carrier. The North Carolina is such a great looking boat, and she's just incredibly impressive. I hope to post pictures tomorrow. BTW, after we went on the ship, we went downtown and shopped for some CDs, hung out in a tattoo parlor for a while, and ate at this cool outdoor restaurant. Had raw oysters for the first time in my life. Was not impressed. I stopped eating boogers when I was a kid.
