Raleigh Green and I had a blast opening for Chuck Wicks at the Claremont Opera House in NH on March 19, 2009. Coincidentally, I met Chuck Wicks while recording my first album in Nashville! "Hot, New Country Star!" Chuck Wicks and Laura Vecchione Ral and I included "When the Fire's Gone" co-written by me and Matt Troja, who has engineered a number of Chuck's songs including a new acoustic version of Chuck's "Stealing Cinderella." I was just sitting innocently at my merch table...(picture courtesy of my new fans, Dave and Kristina) Elmira wants you to vote for Chuck and Julianna. Just look at the T-shirt.

Hi All,For those of you who are not signed up on my fan mailing list (though I encourage you to do so on the home page of my site), please check out my updated news page at: http://www.lauravmusic.com/news.html or read the excerpt below! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Tell Them About the Dream: Historic Election-Inspired Single and Video I am overwhelmed by how many of you wrote in to tell me how much the song and video moved you – thank you! I was inspired to write the song by the story of Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson calling out to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Tell them about the dream, Martin!" forty-five years to the day that Obama gave his DNC acceptance speech. The song embodies the unifying spirit of the Obama presidency and articulates the historic thread that led to this moment. Tell Them About the Dream received this honorable mention from WACBIZ: "WACBIZ was proud to be a part of the screening process of the Dream On! project with Maya Armstrong. Laura Vecchione was one of a few artists, out of hundreds of submissions, that immediately caught our attention. Suzanne Hilleary learned of the history Laura had with her partner Michael Visceglia (Suzanne Vega) and welcomed her to WACBIZ. The video and song "Tell Them About The Dream" has been forwarded to many; The Womans Democratic National Committee, Essence Magazine, Wild Foundation, NAACP and others in consideration of Obama's Inauguration. From HBO to CNN, the song appears on the WACBIZ Dream ON! MLK to Obama playlist. We welcome Laura as one of our talented artists joining Sinead O'Connor to Joe Jackson and musicians from Bowie's Band to Petty's Band, we believe Laura is is every bit as talented!" - http://www.wacbiz.com/Laura-Vecchione/artist/331 Available for Download: Tell Them About the Dream (with full making-of-story) is now available for digital download at CDBaby. Share in the moment - view the video on my Media Page, YouTube Channel, and Facebook Artist Page. Dream On! MLK Compilation: I am honored to be included among the many wonderful artists contributing to the Dream On! compilation and charitable website honoring the work and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (www.thedreamcontinued.org). The CD compilation and full website are set for release by Martin Luther King Day, January 18, 2009. If you are in LA don't miss many of the Dream On! Artists play at the CD Release Party at Molly Malone's on January 15, 2009 8PM.

Please Sign Petition to help save XM Radio's X-Country channel!
As you may already know, the XM Radio / Sirius Satellite Radio merger has taken place. In the blending of the two corporations and their programming, XM's X-Country channel has fallen by the wayside.
X-Country's program director is Jessie Scott, whose mission in life is to bring the coolest of Americana and Alt-Country music to the masses, and radio needs her! Jessie has been an incredible champion of my music, and as an independent artist, that has meant the world to me. She took a risk on me at the very beginning and submitted the cover of my debut CD "Deeper Waters" on the What's New On XM page next to new releases by Keith Urban, Gnarles Barkley, and Lindsay Buckingham! In today's radio climate, Jessie's is a rare and needed voice of courage, heart and integrity.
If you are an XM or Sirius subscriber , please take just a minute to sign an online petition requesting that they reconsider the decision to drop X-Country. You don't have to disclose any information other than your name, and you will be helping to preserve one of the few alternative outlets for non-mainstream musicians. You can sign it here...

I feel like I'm doing Project Runway for Music! We're on a tight budget and tighter timeline to finish mixing a song I wrote just a few days ago based on Senator Obama's historic nomination acceptance speech. This has been such an amazing culmination of events and is to me, a testament of how Senator Obama can bring people together to create something beautiful!!
Obama's speech was on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. The song was inspired by the story of the moments just before Rev. King gave his speech. He intended to keep the content dark but before he sat down, Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson called out, "Tell them about the Dream, Martin!" He put his notes aside and gave one of our most inspirational speeches that opened hearts and changed history.
That's what Obama's campaign has done- tapped into the creative imagination, made us feel like we can come together and do anything, and stayed focused on the positive within all of us. This is all coming together because of people's belief in Sen. Obama. Doors are opening - people are working together, and making things happen on such short notice! It is humbling and pretty miraculous to witness.
And getting this song done has been a democratic improvisation!! Brian Kelly in Connecticut helped me record a quick guitar/vocal demo last week. Pianist Cole Degenova in Boston gave me his creative input on how to make the song better. Hank Goldstein, a friend in CT heard the song and encouraged me to get it recorded before the election!!! A generous friend donated studio time at renown Legacy Studios in NYC, and piano virtuoso, Jonathan Batiste said YES to my asking if he would help me arrange and play on it!!! On Saturday, he brought his amazing quartet in, and we recorded live takes.
My amazing friend, Ralph Modica, shot video of the day, my wonderful fan and new friend, Paul Szynol shot gorgeous photos. After the session, music attorney George Gilbert listened and encouraged me to get the backgrounds on it and STILL TRY TO GET IT DONE BEFORE THE ELECTIONS! My gospel background singers were in BOSTON - and I didn't have a studio!
From a cab in New York City, I texted my wonderful friend and vocal arranger Patricia Dance on Saturday night--Sunday I drove up to Boston and the universe conspired to get us a studio the next day AND SINGERS!! We met at Mix One Studios last night where they laid down some simply amazing tracks! I just landed in LA (quite shy on sleep) to have it mixed in time to send it to Ralph to finish the video!
PLEASE stay tuned as we put the finishing touches on the music, scramble to put it to visuals and get it up on the web. We hope people love it and forward on to friends and family and spread the hopeful message inspired by Sen. Obama BEFORE THE ELECTIONS! All I gotta say is what everybody on this project is telling me.....YES WE CAN!!
