you know the saying . . . about the road to hell, and what it's paved with? well, i saw one prime example of that today, and one example of just sheer dumbassedness. while waiting to cross the street at Spring and 12th street, i witnessed this scene. to say that it was hot outside would be an accurate statement. it wasn't unbearably so, but just hot enough to cue thoughts of the wave of heat that would undoubtably wash out of my car once i opened the door. the traffic was thick and seemingly endless, like my . . . this woman in an SUV suddenly slowed and came to a dead stop on Spring, right before the middle of the intersection. at first i thought that she was having car trouble, but a glance inside the car revealed that she was waving the person waiting to make a left onto Spring ahead. now, mind you, this woman was NOT in the leftmost lane on Spring - rather, she was one lane over from that. so, not only was she endangering the person turning, but also the other drivers on Spring who were going around her. luckily, the guy turning waved her on . . . he recognized her good intentions, but also didn't want to get smashed up by the cars whizzing by her on either side. the second incident happened when i got off the highway onto Freedom Parkway. i made my right onto Boulevard, and went through one light, then stopped at the 2nd light (i believe), the one with the gas station and the elementary school across from it. i was waiting to make the left, and the dude across from me was waiting to make HIS left. i glanced in my passenger side mirror, and saw that the way was clear for him, so i waved him on - totally safe. while i was doing this, this woman who was waiting to cross with her son, decides to make a break for it. with her 6-7 year old son. running across the intersection, in ACTIVE traffic. she paused at the halfway point - at this point, there was traffic whizzing around the next person trying to make a turn, so she had to keep peeking out to see if it was safe. mind you, she NEVER had the "walk" light in her favor. my point being - ESPECIALLY if you have a young child with you - don't try and tempt fate like that! that kid is now thinking "well, if Mommy's doing it, then i should be fine doing it". when i have little Sunshines, i'm gonna be damn sure they know to watch for the light and only cross when it's right! this blog isn't to say that i don't ever do foolhardy and/or rash things - i sure as hell have been guilty of them, and probably will be in the future. but hopefully . . . HOPEFULLY, i'll remember this post and think about it more next time. at least for a month. week? hopefully i remember my lesson tomorrow. yeah. in other news, i once again had a reminder of why i love my damn job so much. around christmas time, my coworker Darrell got this animatronic Santa Claus scene - basically, Santa is warming his ass on a fire, and a snowman is on the other side of the fire. you push the button, and Santa wiggles his ass while he and the snowman engage in seemingly innocent, yet also blatantly homoerotic banter while Santa farts (clearly a virgin fart, too). well, today was the end of that . . . i heard the smashing, and came out of my cubicle to an Office Space-style beatdown and destruction of Santa and his snow buddy. i immediately joined in with glee, stomping out Claus like i was Zoe Bell from Death Proof. these are the moments that make SuperDeluxe SuperDeluxe. a place where rapping loudly in your cubicle is likely to result in people joining you. a place where we have whiteboards covered in pictures of polar bears. a place where, if you catch the right moment, you can see the Pushup Club doing their daily rituals. god bless you, SDXE!!!!!!!

you know how when you have deja vu, you kind of stumble through the next few moments, trying to subconsciously remember what it is that you do next in order to prolong the experience? well, i have entire DAYS like that sometimes. today is not one of those, however . . . it's more like a "stuttering" type of day. short bursts of activity interspersed with short bursts of inactivity. during lunch my brain went straight to Limbo for about 3 minutes. didn't even send me a postcard though, the fucker. it's such a BEAUTIFUL day out! why am i in here? Google, where is my global wireless network? i want to work from the park every day! i think the entire UK office knows what i look like. i have 2 agents over there that are supposed to getting me pictures, but so far no show. i still want to transfer there SO bad though. gina19pj: have you seen Rent yet? tengoku01: uhhh no gina19pj: k tengoku01: ask me if i've purposely stapled my foot to a moving airplane first tengoku01: when i say yes gina19pj: haha tengoku01: then i might say "yes" to having seen Rent

SO we're doing personal reviews at work. these are only 1/1000th less pain than the regular reviews, where they belittle your great achievements and inflate your failures to gargantuan proportions. Adam: Well, I think I did a good job on rolling out those 10 websites in 4 weeks.
Boss: Yeah, yeah. How about the time you didn't change the coffee filter in the break room?
Adam: I don't even DRINK coffee!
Boss: Excuses will get you nowhere in this world, Darby. Here's your $.05 raise. Keep up the work. the worst part of these personal reviews is the "Weaknesses" section. This is your opportunity to search deep inside your soul, and decide what you suck at. i'm really tempted to write "weaknesses? i'm the JUGGERNAUT, BITCH!" in this section. but i'm scared that the reply will be "all we have to do is take off your helmet and hit you with psionic blasts, BITCH!" shit. this sucks. what do i write? all i can come up with is "cold iron. garlic. women. wine."

Current mood: indifferent
caveat lector: i may have relayed part of this blog content to you via instant messenger earlier today.
so i'm in the breakroom making hot tea. as i'm walking out, this dude i work with is coming in and he goes "what's happenin', dude?" i wanted to throw my hot water in his face and go "THAT'S what's happenin', BITCH!"
yesterday i saw a dude with a tshirt on that had the star and crescent on it, with a circle and line through it, and the shirt said "ERASE ISLAM". wtf!?! the dude was older, he LOOKED Turkish and had a huge pot belly that stretched the shirt out like Freddy Krueger was trying to bust free. the funny thing was as i was sitting in the food court, this dude walked by in full Arab garb. i wish i could be more specific about what he was wearing, but i plead ignorance. i wanted to tell him about the other dude and find him.
note: i am currently xxxxx, so i don't want to necessarily xxxxxx about xxxxxxxxxxx. (the x's don't match up to the words they are replacing, so don't hurt your brain figuring it out.)
i may have mentioned this 10 million times before, but i need 4 more hours put into my day.
i've spend all day today listening to the Cure albums that i have neglected. The Top, Cure, you guys are allright by me. :-)
there's this designer who used to work here at Premiere by the name of Matt Jones. he got laid off last year. we have started using his services again as a freelancer. every time i see him, i go "Matt Jones, Matt Jones Matt Jones!!"
i don't think he gets it.

Current mood: okay
today it's 80's on shuffle . . . Cocteau Twins always at night . . . on the way to work this morning, hip-hop classics. later today i think i'm going to need some Tool.
you know, you have these moments when you realise the importance of certain things to your life. whether it be a person, place or thing, these epiphanies are stunning, overwhelming and endearing. it's like when you realise that Campbell's soup is both liquid and chunky at the same time. i still haven't figured that shit out. but goddamn that shit taste good!
so, i had one of those just now. music. my friend, my lover, the driving force in my life. i savor it, it seek it out, and i need it. it's there for me during good times and bad times, through the ecstacy and agony that is life. even during the mundane grind of daily routines, it's there to change my reality.
i go to extreme measures to have music. so many times i have jury-rigged headphones and / or speakers, just so i can have tunes in my head. god save me the day they invent an in-head mp3 player / internet radio streaming cybernetic implant. i'm ON it.
on those rare occasions when i'm not listening to music, when i realise what's going on, i feel bad, as if i cheated on someone! that's how much i love it.

whyyyyyy am i still at worrrrrrrk aaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhh?!?! i know why. freelance. ugh. i really should be working on some work shit, too. but nah. but nah. and of course i left my frikkin laptop at home, else i'd be playing FFXI right now, or working on Kate's site, or some other more-fun-than-waiting-for-email-from-Beijing activity. i can't even think of anything profound to write. ugh. bah. sorry.

Current mood: chipper
back from another monday night of rapid-fire socializing at 97 Estoria. in, talk talk, dance a bit, talk talk, good times, fun people, smiles, yummy pear cider, ghost talk, old friends, catching up, cute pictures (i want copies, Branfold!), burgeoning cuuuute couples (hahah K is not on myspace so i can talk about her), over and out!
went to ru san's earlier with a group of good friends. neill, lan, ni, the Gov, nina, bruce. good times - i never really go to ru san's unless there are a bunch of cool folk to go with. i don't dig the food that much (saltless edamame??!?! salty katsudon? blah), but the raucous atmosphere is my bread and butter, even though i don't normally like to eat in loud environments.
xbox 360 demo at Best Buy! my anticipation has been heightened! today i put Project Gotham Racing and Perfect Dark Zero on hold. anybody got a spare HDTV i can cop? =D
i'm gonna try to get into work at 7 tomorrow. pray for me.
