Just a little non-Candypants plug: I was thrilled to sing backup and play flute on Ann Magnuson's amazing new album, "Pretty Songs and Ugly Stories," produced, arranged, and cowritten (with Ann) by the brilliant Kristian Hoffman. Other people on the album are Rufus Wainwright, the Chapin Sisters, Heather Lockie of Listing Ship, Jonathan Lea of the Jigsaw Seen, Abby Travis, Weba Garretson, and DJ Bonebrake of X.

"The Treasures of Long Gone John," a feature-length documentary about the incorrigible head of Sympathy for the Record Industry, is having its L.A. premiere Saturday, July 1, 7 p.m., at the Don't Knock the Rock Film Festival at Disney Hall (RedCat Theater).
