Hello everyone!

It has been a long time since you have heard anything new from Therion now, so I thought I should give a few updates.

As you may or may not know, THERION is in progress of recording a new album. As usual, THERION is being very secretive about the entire process, but I will reveal some details:

A new studio has been built for most of the recording of this album. The mix, and a few recordings, will be done at another studio - "A truly legendary studio!" according to Chris. Expect something spectacular, even by Therion's standards!

The recording will continue for the rest of the year, and probably also through January.

Also, a new website is still in the making. We are hacking away using the
Symfony Framework. If you want to contribute, drop me a line. It is quite fun and easy.

THERION - THE MISKOLC EXPERIENCE - OUT NOW IN NORTH AMERICA!

Out in Europe on June 5, 2009 and on August 25, 2009 in North America, THERION mastermind and only remaining founding member Christofer Johnsson decided to go for a rather special project: the band's appearance at the remarkable and renowned International Opera Festival in Miskolc / Hungary in 2007, resulting in The Miskolc Experience (2CD + DVD).

The event, which took place on June 16, 2007, featured THERION with the Miskolc Bartok Choir, the Choir of the Miskolc National Theater, and the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra conducted by Markus Stollenwerk.

The Miskolc Experience showcases the talent of Christofer Johnsson on guitar, brothers Kristian & Johan Niemann on guitar and bass (who joined THERION in 2000), and drummer Petter Karlsson (Gothic Kaballah and Live Gothic), and features guest vocalists Lori Lewis, Judit V. Molnar, Andras Molnar, Gergely Boncser, and Mats Leven.

The DVD contains a documentary and "THERION Goes Classic" bonus material.

The event was taped on and off stage to preserve a truly unique classic metal event for the THERION fanbase!

The first part – dubbed "Classical Adventures" – features some of Christofer's favourite composers (especially his alltime fave, Wagner) and does completely without guitars or any metal instrumentation, just orchestra and choir.

Part two, "Therion Songs," delivers exactly that: the finest THERION material performed by the band with a huge orchestra and choir.

Rounding off The Miskolc Experience is an entertaining documentary which gives insight in the complicated organization and the no less complicated execution with all ups and downs for the involved crew and musicians.

"It would have been an easy choice just to take a bunch of THERION songs, stand on a stage with an orchestra, and just play…. But THERION isn't a band that settles for what is ‘good enough,'" states THERION mastermind Christofer Johnsson.

"We want to do more than that.  So much of what you will hear and see are exclusively arranged for this event and one previous one we did in Romania.  We wish to offer you a musical journey where the band both enters the classical world as humble guests as well as invite the classical players and singers into our world."

"There are several ways to incorporate opera and classical music with metal and rock music," continues Johnsson. "Most rock musicians would do it in a rather chauvinistic way: looking upon themselves as the stars and the orchestra, choir, soloists and conductor as a bunch of people just helping them to realize some spectacular event they would do at some point in their career.  And as they are the big stars, they would play over the compositions like a bulldozer, adding guitar chords in every inch of even the classical pieces.

Here, THERION tries to show a great diversity by knowing what style and which rock instruments to play in each place, and (very important) when to be quiet and let the orchestra do their thing undisturbed, in which some dynamics between the two worlds can grow."

THERION - VIDEO INTERVIEW w/ SNOWY SHAW

Germany's StreetClip.tv conducted an interview with Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (THERION, Dream Evil, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate) at this year's Sweden Rock festival, which was held June 3-6, 2009 in Solvesborg. Watch the chat by clicking here or image on upper right.

The Miskolc Experience is the testimony of the brilliant Johnsson, Niemann, Niemann, Karlsson THERION line-up which dissolved in late 2008. This chapter of THERION is closed, but a new chapter is about to begin, and THERION will soon open the book once again!
