Yarn owes as much to Gram Parsons and Earl Scruggs as to Jerry Garcia and Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones. Following in a fine tradition that includes forward thinking roots bands like The Flying Burrito Brothers, New Riders of The Purple Sage and Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Yarn weaves roots musical idioms into a fresh, exciting sound that turns on hipsters and country fans alike. Edie Brickell, anticipating a performance with Yarn, summed it up: "I'm excited to get to sing with this band. they have a lot of heart and soul." Yarn gotten a bit of buzz and excited international press about their last release, Empty Pockets, which has been in the national AMA charts since October 2008 (reaching 5) and made the Ballot for the 2009 Grammy Awards in several categories.

The Infamous Stringdusters w/ The Two Man Gentleman Band $10
Acoustic / Bluegrass / Fusion
Nashville, Tennessee
www.myspace.com/stringdusters

The Infamous Stringdusters are the new vanguard of acoustic music. Well crafted songs, vivid arrangements, instrumental virtuosity, stunning improvisation, unique individuality and complete harmony... Bluegrass, Rock, Country, Blues, Folk, and Jazz, the "IS" is American Acoustic Music. When The Infamous Stringdusters comes out June 10, 2008 on Sugar Hill Records, some may assume from the title that it’s a debut recording. Those already aware of the Stringdusters phenomenon will know differently: that 2007’s Fork in the Road was the album that boldly introduced this daring, disciplined band to the world of bluegrass and a wider world of music enthusiasts who heard it and decided: ‘if that’s bluegrass, then I love bluegrass.’ Fork in the Road was named Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Its title track was named Song of the Year, and the band itself earned the honor of best emerging artist in a competitive field. It was a stunning cap to an amazing 2007. Yet The Infamous Stringdusters feels like an introduction of a sort. Whereas Fork in the Road was made during their first potent months together, the new CD represents all the band has become during two years of intense touring, meticulous woodshedding and brotherly jamming. Nine band originals supplemented by a few carefully chosen tunes from colleagues in the acoustic music community, The Infamous Stringdusters is a cross-section of a band finding it's common ground and it's legs, staying near it's roots but continually exploring new territory. In their breakout year of 2007, the Infamous Stringdusters played over 150 dates, including the biggest festivals in acoustic music, jammed on major stages with their heroes, and landed a development deal for motion picture music with Lions Gate Entertainment. With the release of The Infamous Stringdusters, 2008 promises more roads and more new fans in bluegrass and beyond.

TOMORROW'S BAD SEEDS $7
Alternative / Reggae / Rock
Los Angeles, California

While mainstream music continues to become more commercialized and less visionary, many musicians aim to create music containing the substance that radio airwaves seem to lack. It is with this goal that L.A’S Tomorrows Bad Seeds has emerged onto the scene and is quickly gaining momentum as one of the hottest rising bands in Southern California. With a high-energy mix of Reggae, Rock, Punk, Soul and Hip Hop they create a refreshing and vibrant sound that can captivate any crowd.
Tomorrows Bad Seeds music is driven by its rumbling rhythm section, punching guitar riffs, Harmonic vocals and lyrics charged by day-to-day experiences, Love, and Politics.

THE WAY BACKS (early show 7 pm) $15                           ..                              ..

Americana / Country / Roots Music
SAN FRANCISCO, California
www.myspace.com/thewaybacks

They draw freely from the old school and the old world, but The Waybacks are no throwback. They’ve been erroneously pigeonholed as a bluegrass band and celebrated as purveyors of "acoustic mayhem." They are as uninhibited and unpredictable as the eclectic San Francisco Bay area that claims them, and for nearly a decade, their experiments have always proven sharp-witted and musically dazzling. They’re living proof that in music anyway, evolution and intelligent design are entirely compatible. "The whole spirit of improvisation – that’s always been the cornerstone of this band for me," says founding singer, songwriter and guitarist James Nash. "Through all the stylistic changes and regardless of the instruments we’re playing, to me the fun of this band has always been that in some ways I can do whatever I feel like doing at any moment."

ZACH DEPUTY $10

Acoustic / Funk / Reggae
Bluffton, South Carolina
www.myspace.com/zachdeputy

Hailing from the South Carolina coast, Zach Deputy has infused his earthy blues, roots-rock and soul with hip-hop beats, dance hall rhythms and a bit of the tropical humidity of Calypso and reggae. Maybe it is a natural result of living and performing along the Southeast's beaches for the last four or five years, maybe it is a conscious desire to spice up the intuitive simplicity of his native, regional R&B with the exotic rhythms of the islands. It could even be Zach's family roots in Puerto Rico and St. Croix. Either way, the result is an original sound as comfortable and accessible as worn flip-flops, open and inviting like a seaside cabana and full of flavor surprises like a New Orleans gumbo.

Reader's Pick 2008 - "BEST LOCAL BAND"
"This newly-established rock/reggae/funk band must have earned a ton of new fans really quickly with those gigs at O'Malley's and along King Street this winter; featuring singer/guitarist (and TV reality show winner) Ben Fagan and former members of One Night Stand."

Reader's Pick 2009 - "BEST LOCAL BAND"
"Fronted by heartthrob singer/guitarist Ben Fagan, the local groove-rock combo with light reggae leanings grabs the top spot for the second time."

Reader's Pick 2009 - "BEST MALE VOCALIST: BEN FAGAN"

LUCERO'S RAMBLIN ROADSHOW & MEMPHIS REVUE $15                           ..                              ..

Indie / Rock / Southern Rock
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE
www.myspace.com/lucero

While 1372 Overton Park serves as a love letter to Memphis and its musical heritage, the band has far from abandoned the country/rock/punk influences that they’ve become known for over their previous five records and countless tour dates in front of rabid fans. “I think the fact that we don't claim a genre is very important to what Lucero is,” according to Nichols. “There are too many rules in punk rock. Too many rules in country music. We’re hard headed and…god damn if we don’t do things the way we want to do them.”

Playing between 150-200 live shows a year, Lucero has come to be known as much for their hard-touring work ethic as for their critically acclaimed records. In addition to his work with the band, lead singer Ben Nichols also released a solo record in early 2009 and co-stars in MTV’s $5 Cover, a series about the Memphis music scene.

Ultimately, Lucero live to rock and rock to live. No more. No less. Its really that simple. -Amy Sciarretto

BLACKBERRY SMOKE $10

Bluegrass / Country / Southern Rock
ATLANTA, GEORGIA
www.myspace.com/..blackberrysmoke

Blackberry Smoke are a versatile bunch all right, but they’re humble to boot. “For so many people in our generation, [southern rock] has been the soundtrack of our lives, so it really doesn’t need to be force-fed to anybody.” Starr observes. “What about the Stones and Zeppelin—they played blues and they could turn around and play really funky stuff, or they could play a country song. And they were British, for crying out loud.”

While listeners enjoy the tunes regardless of categorization, the band enjoys making prestigious friends criss-crossing the country—check out the MySpace pics of BBS hanging, and often playing, with heavyweights like Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Slash and Kid Rock—and opening for heroes like outlaw country icon David Allan Coe.

YO MAMA'S BIG FAT BOOTY BAND $10
Funk
Asheville, North Carolina
www.myspace.com/yomamasbigfatbootyband

The Booty Band appeals to a wide range of music fans, as their style cuts across musical genres and borders. They focus on original Funk, but don't be surprised to hear the occasional choice, yet obscure cover by Galactic, Miles Davis, Cymande, P-Funk, and others. They're influenced by all styles of music, absorbing and distilling it for purities before bootlegging it for your enjoyment. The Booty Band is refreshing in this age of oh-so-serious music because they cut to the core of what great live music is all about: having fun and feeling good. Their energy is contagious and instantly transforms the average night out into an evening to remember. With great songs and even better attitudes, they create a rich and varied musical tapestry without ever seeming to run out of fresh ideas.

Big Gigantic is the Latest project from Dominic Lalli (Motet saxophonist/producer) and drummer Jeremy Salken. The two-man sound-machine of Lalli and Salken showcases an array of gripping composition combining elements of a DJ and a live band setup, mixing thoughtful melodic ideas, with pulsating dance tunes. Big Gigantic flavors the electronic music scene with powerful sax solos and soulful synth lines on top of super hot beats.

Jamaican reggae music is one of the best-known genres of music around the
world, uniting people of all countries, all races, and all religions with
a sound that is dedicated to searching for the answers to life, to
conflict, to humanity, to the world, to love.  There are few artists in
this music genre today that are creating the epitome of this artistic
insight, professing subjects that are so often glazed over by mainstream
music.  Hailing from Washington D.C. – reggae band SOJA is on the
forefront of this revolution, telling the roots story, but from the other
side: America.  SOJA embodies musicians unlike any other band in any genre
of music, to date.  The members: Jacob, Bobby, Ken, Ryan, and Patrick have

ECLIPSE *a Pink Floyd Experience $10
Classic Rock / Rock
Nashville, Tennessee
www.myspace.com/..pinkfloydeclipse

Eclipse claims to be a tribute band, performing the music of Pink Floyd.
My ear tells me that they are no mere ‘tribute band’. The six musicians in
the band, who all play a variety of instruments, seem to have captured not
only the sound of Pink Floyd, but the very mood and soul of the songs that
they play. I have heard plenty of tribute and copy bands in my day, but
nothing nearly this accurate. At least not for a long, long while. (I’m
right now recalling a band, back in Chicago in 1966, who did Hollies songs
and harmonies so well, that it sent chills up my spine)

Probably the thing that impresses me the most is the lead guitar playing.
I have personally been playing lead guitar for over forty years, and I
have great appreciation and admiration for tasteful and well-executed
guitar solos. There are many lead guitarists out there, but I think the
percentage of the ones that have the finesse of players like David
Gilmore, are in the minority. The lead guitarists for Eclipse do not just
copy Gilmore’s playing; they do Gilmore. This band is a genuine treat for
my ears.

rhythm section and an expansive musical vision. The songs are finely
crafted and are a synthesis of sounds drawing from funk, reggae, and Latin
rhythms as much as folk and bluegrass. -Relix Magazine, July 2001

HONEYBAKED - free

Birmingham, Alabama
http://www.honeybakedband.com/

Their music consists of complex jazz oriented chord structures, anything
but average time signatures, and melodies influenced by anything from
traditional Arabian melodic passages to west cost American jazz. They
embrace the soulful harmonies of gospel as well as the dissonant sounds of
late Miles Davis. HoneyBaked is riding the wave of jazz oriented music
that has been made so popular these past several years by such artists as
Medeski, Scofield, Martin, & Wood; Galactic; Bela Fleck and the
Flecktones; and Soulive. HoneyBaked's focus lies in music as an art
without focusing on the strong image driven scene that lingers in today's
pop culture. Talent, musicianship, and forceful compositions with
intricate lines and powerful beats rule the creative endeavors of this
group of collaborators.

JOE FIRSTMAN, CHARLIE MARS & BRIAN WRIGHT (early show doors @ 7pm) - free

*Joe Firstman

Acoustic / Alternative / Rock
la, California
www.myspace.com/joefirstman

New York Post: "With his piano-powered attack and his rock eclecticism,
newcomer Joe Firstman reminds you of Elton John when he was still young.
Firstman is the real thing. Look for him as a contender for Best New
Artist at the Grammys."

*Charlie Mars

Other
Mississippi
www.myspace.com/charliemars

Charlie Mars has some pretty familiar ideas about how to chill out with a
friend: "If you wanna come over and get high, we can listen to 'Dark Side
of the Moon,' " he sings on "Like a Bird, Like a Plane," the indie-label
follow-up to Mars' buzzed-about 2004 V2 bow. A fresher method of
relaxation might be listening to "Like a Bird," which finds this Oxford,
Miss.-based singer/songwriter floating his handsome mellow-man croon
(think Jason Mraz or Josh Rouse) over cozy, sensual soul-rock arrangements
that go places without ever sounding like they're in a hurry to arrive.
Occasionally, as in "Tell Me Twice," Mars overdoses on the sedatives. Most
of the time, though, he hits a slow-boil sweet spot.

*Brian Wright

Americana / Country / Rock
LOS ANGELES, California
www.myspace.com/..brianwmusicbluebird

"But if you gotta go
Go safely my dear
And the record just skips at the end
Over and over, over and over again"

Go ahead, listener, please, call out, yell, scream-- it will be our
pleasure. Music is a good thing for everyone to have on their head. What,
do you not believe?

===LATE SHOW w/ THE HOT SEATS=== 10:30 pm $7

Bluegrass / Blues / Crunk
RICHMOND, Virginia
www.myspace.com/thehotseatsrva

“The young five man acoustic band play with verve, vigour and a true feel
for the roots of their chosen idiom. Which stilted critic-speak completely
fails to convey the sheer fun and laughter of the show. If you like this
sort of music, you must go. Everyone else should go and those who leave
without having had a good time are just not the sort of people whom I
would want to meet.” - BroadwayBaby.com, 2008

“BLUEGRASS, old-time, skiffle, jug band … stir them up vigorously,
throwing in elements of zany vaudeville , add some unpredictable tics,
then stand back and watch Special Ed & the Shortbus go.” - The Edinburgh
Scotsman, 2008

“Their shows are veritable litmus tests for a crowd's sense of humor. If
you've ever answered yes to Frank Zappa's question "Does humor belong in
music?" then The Hot Seats are for you. They're straight-up nuts when they
pick and sing, and if you can get past the lovely freakishness of their
stage act, you'll find some real talent backing up the zaniness." -
Haymaker Productions (www.haymaker.com), 2003

songs that are head and shoulders above the rest. She has become one of my
favorite artists." - Bonnie RaittFour years ago, Maia Sharp achieved a
lifelong ambition, when Bonnie Raitt invited her to open for and perform
with her on the road. Now it's your turn: If you're hoping to hear music
that will mirror, touch and maybe change your life, that dream comes true

===LATE SHOW w/ THE INCREDIBLE SANDWICH===FREE

Latin, jazz, funk and rock, with unexpected educated improvisational jams
that take the listener on a surprising musical journey.

Thurs

Trevor Hall (early show doors @ 7pm) - $10

Acoustic / Alternative / Rock
LOS ANGELES
www.myspace.com/trevorhall

His lyrics are sewn tight with politics of revolution, combative critique
of harsh corporate advances and messages of peace and love, a classic
hippie notion with the guttural exclamations of positive transformation.
Two minutes into "Proof of Destruction", I fall apart, the emotional
outburst of "You're leaving nothing for the youth but the proof of
destruction," able to bring my heart to its metaphorical knees. His song
"To Zion" from the upcoming album is a reggae lullaby, bringing about the
same familiar uprising in my chest that only comes from the most
prestigious of melodies.

===LATE SHOW w/ OLD UNION===$7

Blues / Rock / Southern Rock
Nashville, Tennessee
www.myspace.com/oldunion

Old Union was formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2001 by Chuck Foster
(keyboards and lead vocals), Johnny Zvolensky (guitars), Steve Spotty
Swertfeger (guitars and vocals), and David Bryndal (drums), with the
recent addition Professor "JDubb" Williams (bass). The strong,
well-crafted songs and soulful, gritty vocals of Foster remain the heart
and soul of the band. With additional songwriting from Zvolensky, and
Swertfeger, Old Union has acquired the reputation as one of the best
song-oriented bands working today. With superb musicianship from the twin
guitar assault of Swertfeger and Zvolensky and the locked in
solid-as-a-rock rhythm section of Williams and Bryndal, Old Union hits the
stage with an aggressive rock edge drenched in Southern soul.

CARY ANN HEARST & HER FAVORITE SPECIAL BAND w/ PONDEROSA & THE IN-LAWS - $12

Indie / Rock / Southern Rock
Charlie Town, South Carolina
www.myspace.com/caryannhearst

Throughout songs that pull from her Southern musical roots, Ms. Hearst
tells stories that draw on diverse images--from religious images to scenes
from the bar-- in ways familiar to classic country. But from the handmade
painted skull art on her album, to the throughly modern, indie-sounding
arrangement of its songs, there's no question that Ms. Hearst hasn't got
her ears on the past for any of her ideas. Pleading, regretful lyrics,
swelling drums and blues type guitar next to male/female vocal harmonies
on tracks such as "Pocahontas" epitomize what a different and better
version she has made. With its wary acoustic guitar and mournful strings,
"Dresden Snow" one of the final tracks on the album, is also one of the
most perfect and beautiful songs I've heard in years..... (AMB) Punk
Planet Magazine, August 2006

*Ponderosa

Americana / Classic Rock / Soul
Atlanta/Athens, Georgia
www.myspace.com/ponderosamusic
"Ponderosa naturally carries the type of swagger that most bands spend
years rehearsing. Their catalog of campfire songs, southern rock anthems,
and drunken, two-step shuffles has won the admiration of listeners—and the
envy of musicians—throughout the Southeast Region. Featuring former
members of The Butch Walker Band, Sovus Radio and Variac, Ponderosa’s
rhythm section has the chops to craft timeless, impeccable songs. Singer
Kalen Nash’s voice has often been described as “golden,” though this gold
is equal parts honey and whiskey. The group’s three-part harmonies,
jaw-dropping performances, and rock-and-roll lifestyle make them truly
peerless, which is why Ponderosa is already a favorite among industry
professionals.." -William Cane (Performer Magazine)

* The In-Laws

Indie / Pop / Rock
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut
www.myspace.com/inlawcountry

rashly, blahs, and bush were once a band of ribaldrous banditos, cavorting
up and down the eastern seaboard, delivering their sultry blend of beer
soaked flavor to any and all who would have them. but one day, with
constant touring (and expensive graduate degrees) having driven them to
the brink of bankruptcy - and deeper into debt than they care to admit -
our crew of strapping young men up and found themselves some women, got
themselves some dogs, and stopped having so much fun. it was then, during
the heady days of summer '06, that the heroes of our story finally settled
down, flung themselves headlong into the sweet, supple bonds of matrimony,
and became..... the in-laws!!!

*Barrel House Mamas

Americana / Folk / Soul
ASHEVILLE, North Carolina
www.myspace.com/..barrelhousemamas

The Barrel House Mamas from Asheville, NC, conjure the sweet and sultry
sounds of the southern Appalachian Mountains they call home in their
robust vocals and original songs. Within the Mamas’ seamless and unique
sound, claw-hammer and folk style banjo playing meets the melodic rythem
of the acoustic guitar. Above all of these are the soaring, poetic
harmonies sung from beautiful and distinct female voices for which the
Mamas have gained regional notoriety.
