Michael Hurley - Down in Dublin
About 8 or 9 years ago a friend of mine from An Emotional Fish gave me a Michael Hurley lp "wolfways" - anyway, i loved it, great bluegrass feel to it, songs about the Portland Water, real quirky americana. Great stuff altogether. So there i was up in Denton Texas yesterday and eyed another of his lps "Down in Dublin" - was only $7.77 second hand so I said yeah and grabbed it.

But here's the rib to this story - i'm kicking back in Fort Worth listening to it, drinking some Dos Equis and eating a shrimp Quesadilla (shouldn't work but it does!), flicked through the sleevenotes and the engineer for the album was Al Cowan from
Caliban.

It's all kind of freaky cos i was just talking to Ken from the band for the first time in yonks on instant messenger about an hour before i picked up the cd.

You can get the Michael Hurley catalogue in Europe on the excellent
Glitterhouse label - home to Chris & Carla from the Walkabouts and Willard Grant Conspiracy

A Michael Hurley myspace fan page is

managed to get the blog a little more organised, plus managed to figure out a direct link to it too: http://blog.myspace.com/rog

One of the nice things i like is the 'currently listening to' tag which automatically plonks in the album cover image for you - very nice. after farting around with wordpress and moveable type i think i'll settle on this for a while. if only cos it keeps me on top of the music.
okay, the friends thing is corny, and of the 74 million members, 73 million of them are spas, but it does let you keep track of new releases and news for your favourite bands in one site, which is why i initially started looking at it. And it does allow you to listen to full tracks without having to cart around a supply of music to whichever pc you may be on.
