I first heard about Neda Agha-Soltan after she died on June 20, 2009.

27 years old and as she was protesting the outcome of the Iranian election, she was shot to death in a sea of people as she rallied with other protesters. It was caught on camera and uploaded to the web.
Over the course of following her story in the paper, on the news, and especially on the internet I came across the video of her last minutes on earth. I witnessed her dying on camera as her teacher, and friend frantically cry and plead while attempting to revive her. The video had warned it would be graphic and explicit. Straight after watching I was so sorry that I didn't heed that warning.
Her eyes still haunt me as they rolled over to the the camera, her last few precious moments on earth drained away oh so quick as blood ran out of her nose and mouth. I was in shock after watching. I thought..how could someone put this on the internet? Why?
But after awhile I thought about the other side of the coin. As distressing as it was to watch ...in that moment of her final breaths and being engulfed in her own blood she caught the attention of the world, more people are paying attention to the issues in Iran and the world around us.
I would like to believe that she didn't die on that crowded street in vain because now her voice is heard around the world.
On a human level she has made an impact on me and so many others.
It's been over 3 weeks and I find myself thinking about her and the graphic footage. I ask myself.... if I had only read about her in the paper instead of seeing her demise unfold on the screen before my eyes..would I have cared as much? Would it have affected me as much?
I can't remember where I read this but it said "NEDA died open eyes. Don't live with your eyes closed!"

We have some sunshine today and I am feeling so much better, for a couple days I felt like I had been walking around with a stomach full of gravel. I guess I'll never know what caused it. I can only figure that it was bad Carl's Jr. food or a nasty stomach virus. Jim thinks it was sympathy pains since BOTH my sisters are pregnant. Yep, Heather my little sister is 7 months along and my other sister the middle one (I'm the oldest) is 3 months along. I'll be Aunt Amy to a new little nephew and a new little ??? ...Chrissy doesn't know which gender yet.

I forgot to blog about July 4th.
We went to the parade, it was a folksy little parade but entertaining nevertheless.
After the parade we went to Ediz Hood and made a bonfire on the beach, to eat we brought a cooler full of sub sandwiches, soda and snacks.
The sunset was amazing turning from gold to pink.
There is a lot of noise in these sunset photos, I did not have a tripod, but I hope they show the general idea.

I've had a tummy ache since Monday and when we have tummy aches the first thing we do is think of the last thing we ate before the pain started. For me that was Carl's Jr.s home fries and a 83 cent container of guacamole. I was in Tacoma and in a rush.. At the time I thought the guacamole tasted weird but then again I've never had their guacamole before and maybe that's their version of the green stuff..the only thing I had ate before that was a frozen waffle and a banana in the morning. So now it's Wednesday and I still have a tiny urge to throw up.
Bleh.

June was a wonderful month, summer is off with a running start. I've been hiking, did Relay For Life, completed the 5/10 K run, went to the lake, celebrated Amanda's birthday at Sergio's and last Friday I went strawberry picking . I can't wait to see what July brings.

This morning was gray and overcast, it was gloomy and I felt like crap. The clouds weren't just outside they were hanging over my head. I took Sadie for her morning walk and a woman approached us and began oohing and aahhing over Sadie's blue eyes which is fine because I sometimes stop to pet other people's dogs.
But as she was fawning over my dog in an exaggerated high voice she was asking Sadie questions. Like "Well hello there what's your name?"
"Sadie." I told her.
She did not even look at me as she continued on.
"And what kind of dog are you?" Her face was only inches from Sadie's.
I offered "I'm not certain but I think she may be part whippet." She ignores me.
We continued in this fashion with her not acknowledging my presence and just talking to Sadie, I felt like a dog interpreter.
She's all like "You are so precious, where did you get those blue eyes?"
After she finally let Sadie go, I fought the urge to sarcastically let her know that Sadie does not talk.
And that my "precious" dog had just torn up the laundry room last night.
But why spread around my bad mood?
---- S.C. governor Mark Sanford has been in the news lately. He had disappeared off the face of the earth and no one knew of his whereabouts.
I was mildly interested in the story thinking maybe he had done something unlawful or is he dead? It was a mystery. But then he suddenly surfaces and tells everyone that he had been hiking the Appalachian Trail. But that wasn't the case, he then admits he was having an affair with an Argentinian woman. And you know what? I could barely muster a yawn.
It's like big deal another politician is having an affair. It's sad because I'm not the only one that feels this way.
The biggest news on this June 25, 2009 is the death of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. But that's for another blog.
Miss Negative is signing off now.

On Sunday afternoon we went hiking up on Hurricane Ridge.
I thought that we were going just for a stroll around the visitor area but we ended up walking 4 miles. 700 feet up.
At first I didn't want to and my excuse was that we didn't have backpacks.
"We don't need backpacks with us" everyone said.
"Well where's the trail mix, we need that" my last feeble attempt to not go hike up.
We went anyway and it was beautiful.
Patches of snow and wild flowers and the view was well worth it.
Off topic....I exercised for the 3rd day in a row. So far it's been good. Sweaty but worth it.
Oh and before I forget to tell ya...100 US National Parks are giving away free weekends for everyone this summer. Yep no fees....Awesome. One in June, July and August.
Here is the list U.S National Park Service Fee-Free
Night everyone

Last weekend I ran (WALKED) the OMC 5/10 K run. It was the same weekend I walked for Relay for Life, so it was a pretty big weekend. The North Olympic Discovery Marathon was also going the same time as the OMC run. The NODM starts in Sequim at Carrie Blake Park and ends in Port Angeles at the city pier 26 miles. Wow!
My race started at 9am so we (Lisa and I) finished fairly early and decided to have brunch at the Crab House just yards away from the finish line. I ordered eggs benedict with a fresh tomato slice instead of ham and she ordered eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. From where were seated in the lounge, we could see weary but happy finishers from the the bigger marathon cross the line. After our delicious meal we went outside ... I had a handful of friends who were doing the half marathon 13 miles, so we cheered them on as they came in.
I know I ran (WALKED) the 5/10 K, but now I want to do the North Olympic Discovery Marathon 26 miles in 2010. Watching these amazing runners, walkers, athletes cross that finish line inspired me.
And to kick this off I will do another 30 day challenge however this time it will be 30 days of any type of exercise EVERYDAY. Rain or shine no excuses starting today...
