Fans of the traditional style of new wave will appreciate Louis Guidone's album "Destruction Time Again". This CD is a tribute to Depeche Mode and Recoil and it is a cover album filled with thought and passion. Guidone's own interpretation of each song make it as equally unique and different from the originals as it should be. Skillfully pulled off, it really is a nice album to listen to which would certainly appeal to the New Wave/Gothic genre. It's well crafted and well thought out and it is of a top sound quality unlike many covers you here today. This was created by a fan to show his love and passion for the music and this album is certainly bursting with passion. With covers of Photographic, In Your Memory, Ice Machine and Stone, this really isn't one to miss for you Depeche Mode and Recoil fans out there.

Definitely one for the CD collection especially if you love these two bands. Well done Louis another stunning masterpiece.

"Duck And Cover" is a vintage educational film which was parodied in an episode of South Park... people were burned alive by hot lava as they were instructed to "Duck And Cover" during a volcano eruption.

In 2009, Louis Guidone released a sequel to his 2008 Depeche Mode and Recoil tribute album "Destruction Time Again". This time, he challenged himself with covers of other artists he has enjoyed for decades.

While more of a modern score than a cover, he decided to include it on this release because he already had his heart set on the title "Duck And Cover".

This a reminder that even though we should all be ready, we will never be fully prepared.

There are very real threats and dangers surfacing all the time, but we should not live in fear because seldom do our foes make due on their threats.

*They're on my top friends, please add them!

Hey Louis, thanks for speaking to us, first off how's your day going today?
Hi!  I woke up at noon to the sound of my phone ringing.  I was up very late working on music.

How did you get started in making music?
When I was young, I had a Casio VL-Tone, a drum kit, an organ, a guitar, and so on.  The interest was always there from an early age.  I remember sneaking downstairs at my grandparent's house to play the piano quite often.  I was also in the chorus in elementary school.

Can you explain the kind of music you create?
I try not to get stuck in any one genre.  Thanks for noticing that on your review of "I Go On With My Life".

What is the inspiration behind your music? You have some pretty epic stuff going on there on your cds.
Life mostly, and thank you very much!

You have released quite a few albums this year and another is out soon, why so many and so fast?
Well I don't have a steady job or a girlfriend right now, so that frees up a lot of time.  The first 2 albums "I Go On With My Life" and "Destruction Time Again" came out a month apart.  I wanted to keep the covers separate from my original work.  The next 2 "9006 Alpha Instrumentals" and "9006 Beta Experiments" also came out a month apart about a year later.  People were curious about my early years.

You produce and engineer all your own music, is this the way you've always done it? What made you decide to do it all yourself and not have outside help?
I think it goes back to when I was 17 and taking studio courses.  I learned many things quickly, and the best way to learn techniques and gear is hands on.  One of my professors had a home studio and he used to bring synths into class from home.  Imagine walking into class one day and seeing a whole array of Moogs to get acquainted with!  It's a great feeling to get things how you want on your own, keeps things original and satisfying.  It's a never-ending experience.  I could walk into a club and bump into a few producers, happens all the time, I just don't want to sound like their roster.

What kind of response have you had to the first 4 albums?
Very positive things so far.  :-)

Who are you main musical influences?
Well, I'm not all about 'ootz' lol.  I grew up with The Human League, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, and didn't really get into Industrial like Skinny Puppy, Front 242, and Throbbing Gristle until high school.  Around 17, I started making mostly experimental and instrumental tracks.  It just evolved from there.

Anyone you'd want to collaborate with musically or artistically?
I've done my fair share of remixes, but for now I still prefer being a 'solo artist' and using my real name.  There are a few people I would consider in the future.

Would you want to do an original piece with them or would you want to do a cover version?
Most likely come up with something new.

Does your music have an influence on your personal life and vice versa?
My first album "I Go On With My Life" draws heavily from my real life.  There were even some song I felt were too personal for the general public.

Anything you want to ask Defiance?
I'll let you ask the questions.

We shall carry on then..

What is your next move going to be musically?
I am currently mastering another cover album to be released soon, and of course working on originals as well.

Any last words for your fans and our Defiant readers?
This is my first interview and I thank you for asking!

I must admit this album was a nice surprise for me, looking at the album cover I wasn't sure on my first impressions but then the magic happened when I played the CD.

With well crafted beats and simplistic melodies similar to artists such as Moby but with more of that kick you wish you could give Moby for being such a hippie animal loving vegan. Louis Guidone is the opposite musically.  It's exciting, it's fresh and it's original.

Very reminiscent of Velvet Acid Christ and Nine Inch Nails in parts, it's catchy and well engineered. "Snake Charmer" has that catchy electro style groove that captures you along with "R630"

With stand out tracks for me being "Stop Stalking Me" with it's dark undertones , "Closure" and "Get Off Your Ass", this is one very well produced album and well engineered also. This album will appeal to a lot different genres that appeals to everyone from the Ambient to the Electro to the Indie kids. And I must admit I'm blasting out the hidden track here and loudly. Impressive and Exciting, that is Louis Guidone.

1. Enter The Arena - digital noise manipulation representing a gladiator's battle.
2. Skweal - digital noise manipulation representing a lab rat.
3. Wheat's Got Germs - symphony for reel to reel tape decks and tapes bought in thrift shops.  Loops were made from actual tapes spliced with real razor blades.
4. Sucked In - Mixer improperly set up to generate feedback loop.
5. 51902A V2 - digital noise manipulation representing of a futile rescue mission.
6. Want Versus Will - digital noise manipulation representing the human thought process thinking about too many things at one time, then overthinking one thing in particular.
7. Stark Raving Mad - source tape was found in a portable tape deck bought in a thrift shop, recorded by an American soldier in Vietnam.  As the battery dies, the pitch got slower, and was compensated for by a pitch shifter.  Mixed with a improvisation for banjo and vocals.  The microphone was duct taped inside the banjo's resonator.
8. Severed Head - mixer improperly set up to generate feedback which was sampled and then used as a rhythm loop along with samples from the news.  Would be a nice way to replace interrogation techniques such as 'water boarding' at about 10,000 watts in a small room with thick cement walls.
9. Day In The Life Of A Factory Worker - symphony for an electric motor as interpreted by guitar pickups along with effects chain manipulation and tapes with source material such as factory machinery and sampler loops.
10. Loudicrous Speed - drum machine triggering a digital sampling delay along with a synth being triggered by the same drum machine...  and space balls.
11. Experiment 1 - made with a borrowed guitar and amp with chorus, spring reverb, a clean channel, and a dirty channel.  Completely improvised and recorded live.  Segments were later used for "One Louder" on my first album "I Go On With My Life".

THE STORM TRILOGY - completely improvised, recorded live, and edited down to 3 parts decades later.  A representation of a man made disaster building, taking place, and the inevitable waves of aftermath that follow.

12. Calm Before The Storm
13. The Storm Part 1
14. The Storm Part 2

1. Reminiscing - looking back on good times without regret.  ambient
2. Grynt - digital noise manipulation representing inner turmoil.  noise
3. RE:peat - made with Rebirth on a G3.  acid
4. Dawn - heading home after a long night out. ambient
5. RE:sist - made with Rebirth on a G3.  acid
6. Soaring Spirits - how it feels to be an angel, afloat in heaven.  ambient
7. RE:curring Bad Dream - made with Rebirth on a G3.  acid
8. RE:volve - made with Rebirth on a G3.  acid
9. None Of Ya Left - parole denied, Charlie.  'industrial'?
10. RE:lentless - made with Rebirth on a G3.  acid
11. ZeroZero - improvisation for keyboards and shortwave radio.  ambient
12. RE:turn - made with Rebirth on a G3.  acid
13. Solitude - it can drive you mad.  ambient
14. Alone in a crowd. - been there?  electro

A collection of instrumentals made between 1990-2006.  Some tracks are introspective ('Reminiscing' for example is a flashback to staying up late at the age of 12 and listening to Kraftwerk on headphones), some are quite intense ACID (all Rebirth tracks start with RE), while others drift into genres such as ambient or noise.  So yeah, go ahead and trip, let me know what you see.

LGCD02 My Depeche Mode+Recoil Tribute Album DESTRUCTION TIME AGAIN

AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH MY WEBSITE LOUISGUIDONE.COM ON CD.

THESE ARE MY INTERPRETATIONS OF SOME OF MY PERSONAL OLD SCHOOL FAVORITES 20 YEARS OLD AND OLDER, RECREATED BY ME FROM SCRATCH WITH MY OWN PERSONAL TOUCHES.

THE ONLY DM SONG HERE MADE AFTER "MUSIC FOR THE MASSES" IN 1987 IS "SUFFER WELL", MY FAVORITE TRACK FROM "PLAYING THE ANGEL" RELEASED IN 2005.

THIS IS NOT I REPEAT NOT SOME CORPORATE BULLSHIT OR CONTRACT QUOTA, THIS IS FROM THE HEART.

FROM WHISPERS TO SCREAMS...

100 to 150 beats per minute...

IT TOOK A LOT OF TIME FOR ME TO DO THIS BY MYSELF (AROUND EVERYTHING ELSE - ORIGINALS, REMIXES, PHOTO SHOOTS, NIGHTCLUBBING, SOCIAL NETWORKING) AND I HOPE YOU WILL AGREE THAT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT...

IT WAS VERY HARD TO DO WHAT VINCE, MARTIN, DAVID, ANDY, AND ALAN DID BY MYSELF ON MY COMPUTER.

WHEN I THINK OF MY STUDIO GEAR FROM THE EARLY 90'S, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN A SLEDGEHAMMER TO MY ALESIS MMT-8 SEQUENCER IF I WOULD HAVE ATTEMPTED THIS PROJECT WITH IT!!!

I DID NOT USE ANY SAMPLES OF DEPECHE MODE OUT OF RESPECT.

THESE ARE COVERS, NOT REMIXES.

PRODUCED, ENGINEERED, PERFORMED, RECORDED, AND MIXED BY LOUIS GUIDONE 2007-2008.

LGCD01 I Go On With My Life

Represented here are pride, boredom, love, refusing to comply, hate, condemnation, betrayal, revolt, motivation...  some very dark moments as I chase away ghosts, a bit of humor...  traces of goth, industrial, rock, new wave, classical, techno, trance, spoken word...

In other news, one of my photographs will be featured on an upcoming Sheer Zed release.  Here is his blog on that, he's on my top friends, add him!

Hi there,

After an overwhelming response to the competition I am now very happy to announce the winner. It really wasn't that hard to pick since this outstanding piece was by far head and shoulders above the rest.

Designed and shot by the excellent New York based musician and photographer Louis Guidone it features the sublime modelling curves of Robot Dolly and the delightfully stunning mural art of Lady Pink.

The spoken word album will now feature this great artwork and be distributed across 400 online stores. The album itself is an experimental psychedelic soundscape produced with an ex-member of Meat Beat Manifesto and Perennial Divide Andy Ward.

Thank you to everyone that took part and I look forward to the album being released within the next few weeks online.

Electronically Yours,

Sheer Zed
