The newest in an expanding line of Rat Babies mini-EP releases "Smokers Cough Medicine", officially came out at Holly's B-Day Party house show we played this weekend (11-13-09). We gave out a few initial pressings of the release at the show, but now anyone can get a copy at our next show, and from our website [ www.ratbabies.org] as well. The EP includes 2 new recordings, one of a brand new song, and the other a rehashing of an old song never before released. Here's the track listing: 1. Medicine 2. Smokers Cough Here's a copy of the cover art:

So as a kid growing up discovering new music, I at some point got introduced to the rockabillyish sounds of The Flat Duo Jets!!! They were awesome, I loved them... but I never imagined at that time that I would ever have a chance to meet the guys. Now I'm in a band of my own, years later, and I'm organizing a show with the lead singer of the Flat Duo Jets, Dexter Romweber. The Dexter Romweber Duo consist of Dexter and his sister (on drums). I've seen them once at the 40 Watt Club a few years back when Polemic played with them, now I have the chance to actually play with them myself! Pretty cool huh? The show will be taking place at the Flicker Theater & Bar, which is a pretty intimate setting for us and Dexter, but the club was excited to have them out and they worked it out so that we could make it happen! It will be $8 per person. Opening will be my band Rat Babies, and also The Shrinks (featuring members of Flash To Bang Time, another band from the era of Flat Duo Jets mentioned above). Hope you can make it out for this one! - Mux

We played Horrorfest 4 this weekend at Lenny's Bar in Atlanta and it was a great show... got to play with one of our favorite's in the Atl scene Let The Night Roar... and believe me they did!! We did our "Hypno" Rat Babies set with Hypno-wheel and everything.. we even had some lights set up (that had to be turned off half way thru the set to keep from setting the drummer on fire)... I wish we had someone there to take pictures cause we'd really like to see what that looked like.. cause that was the first time we did that... but we wanted the Horrorfest show to be something special...
Anyways, thanks to the organizers of Horrorfest, and thank you to everyone that came out for our set... can't wait til next time!!
Be sure to catch us next at the "Mr Blank's Carnivale of Black Hearts" show in Athens GA at the awesome Flicker Theater & Bar... we'll be on last but you don't want to miss a single second of the whole show, so comeout early, this one's going to sell out fast!! I mean who doesn't want to see carnie freaks and sexy ladies!!! (check out www.myspace.com/carnivaleofblackhearts for more info)

Here's what Flagpole had to say about our newest release entitled, "The Complete Guide To Caring For Your Rat Babies, Vol #1":
Rat Babies
The Complete Guide to Caring for Your Rat Babies Vol.1
Independent Release
Rat Babies are not cute and cuddly. Like the rodent they’re named for, they rip and tear into what they’re given. With screamed, nigh incomprehensible vocals, sludgy guitars and spastic, thrashing drums, Rat Babies are about as grunge metal as you can get. In fact, they’re pretty much standard.
"The Complete Guide..." is their collection of unreleased demos and live tracks. More than half of the album heads into the five minute and over mark, leaving you wondering when the song actually ended. The sound quality is spotty at times, but for the genre, it works.
There’s a constant drone throughout the record—perhaps the result of massive amounts of feedback, but it does give an otherwise unrelated collection a unifying sound. The lyrics are nothing special, featuring much mulled over ideas of death and blood and dying. “Bleeder” asks “Did I go numb just to feel something?” But there’s hope still for some originality. The song “Vibrator” is a delightfully X-rated grind that
dissolves into declarations of why a certain member of the body is no longer needed. It takes a few listens to understand every word, but once you get it, it sticks.
The album came with a DVD that I can only describe as someone with a video camera running around a swamp either during a lightning storm or just with a flashlight. It honestly wouldn’t be a bad backdrop for Rat Babies to play in front of since it does match the music pretty well. But as a stand-alone disc? I’d rather just watch "Blair Witch" again. It aims for artsy but just falls into the realm of bad ideas.
Rat Babies just want to be your fuzzed-out, sludgy metal vibrators. They may not always blow your mind, but they’ll get the job done.

Wow, check this out, Flagpole had this to say about recent Rat Babies activities: Oh, Rats: Local scuzz rockers Rat Babies completed a five-week eastern U.S. tour this past June and just recently released its first full-length album. Titled The Complete Guide to Caring for Your Rat Babies, Vol. #1,
the album features tracks taken from various EPs, compilations, live
recordings and previously unreleased stuff. You can download a free
copy over at www.muxproductions.com. In other news, the band participated in this week’s Devilneck Metal Fest and will play Go Bar on Sept. 2. Member Mux
is still recovering from an injury that left him without the tip of his
left forefinger and he’s trying to devise a way of playing without it.
Additionally, the band is working on recoding new material for a
special cassette-only release to be put out by Wilmington, DE label Sloth Tapes. Fans, and fans-to-be, can listen in at www.myspace.com/ratbabies.
Thanks Gordon!!!

So we just hear about the line up for the next Devilneck Metal Fest, you can check it out for yourself at their myspace profile! (in our top friends) We are currently in the proces of writting new material and practicing them along with a few other songs which Mux now has to learn to play all over again now that he doesn't currently have the use of his left index finger, at least until it heals enough to start using it again. We will be playing the fest, so come out and see tons of amazing bands, plus you can pay a dollar to be touched by Mux's fucked up finger!!! lol.
