Yesterday at the age of 59, Philly's own pop-rocker Robert Hazard sadly passed away after surgery in Boston, Massachusetts.
His work as a local musician, and his contributions to the national music scene will be cherished, and his presence on the local music scene will be greatly missed.  In rememberance of Hazard's great contributions to the local and national music scenes Helen aired his November 23, 2007, Free at  Noon performance today during Leicht Lunch.  However, if you missed Leicht Lunch this afternoon, you can listen to his complete performance in the Free at Noon archives and view numerous photos of the performance by clicking here.

In addition, you can visit the XPN All About The Music Blog for more information and media on this artist, as we remember local artist, national phenomenon, and dear friend to WXPN, Robert Hazard.

Hi, Philadelphia, my old Home Town! I'm proud to be a part of the XPN radio family with my new CD "Troubadour" hitting the airwaves. We'll see you at World Café Live on January 5th, 2008 and at Puck on Jan 25th. Come on out and see us. Thanks so much for all your support over the years

Calling all musicians based in the Central, Pennsylvania region!  Having received numerous great submissions over the year from Central, PA we are now certain that Central, PA has a rich music scene.
For this reason, Fly Magazine and WXPN have teamed up to invite Central PA based singer-songwriters and bands to submit some music to WXPN's Philly Local show and not only will you be considered for air-play on WXPN, but you may even get a gig at our local music event in October!

...But hurry because this is the last month to submit your music!

If you do choose to submit your music we are requesting that you send 3 CD copies of your music along with a artist biography to the address below:

WXPN
Attn: Philly Local/Helen Leicht
3025 Walnut St.
Philadelphia, PA 19104

In addition, please indicate on the envelope that you are submitting from Central Pennsylvania, and hopefully you'll get some air-play and a possible gig!

Hello my delightful Philly Local fans,

Throughout the month of July WXPN and The Current (a radio station in Minneapolis) will be doing an online and on-air series in which we will introduce local bands to each other's audiences.  It's called "The Music Exchange" and each station has chosen 8 of their local bands to play on each other's airwaves and to showcase on the web.  In addition, each band is contributing a song as a free MP3 download, so be sure to check out the "My Morning Downloads" on the XPN All About The Music Blog and tune in around 1:30pm every Tuesday and Thursday to hear not only the pick of the day, but also to get a taste of what the Twin Cities have to offer!

Oh and by the way, while we're on the subject of discovering new music from across the country, the XPoNential Music Festival is a great place to do this.  This weekend, July 10-13th, WXPN is hosting the XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru, so come on down to enjoy some familiar artists and possibly some not so familar.  Who knows? You may discover your new favorite band!
