our first tour was awesome, guys. we spent the weekend with these dudes: erik (1/2 of umbros), channing (mc cat genius), stephen (1/2 of umbros/obelisk)

a little summary of things...

friday: madison at the nottingham co-op. a surprisingly decent turn-out and cozy venue. we played amongst dimly lighted lamps with a circle of couches around us. umbros from missouri came about three hours later than expected, so unfortunately a bunch of people left by the time they played. afterwards we went to get russian dumplings, then all came back to our place to stay the night.

saturday: milwaukee at the cactus club. for our drink tickets, each band got three free pitchers of blatz beer, which in our case, was split between the boy and i. saw a bunch of people i hadn't seen in quite a while (in years, in one case). it was a good night... afterwards there was a semi-afterparty at a member of the silence project's house, where obelisk (who's 1/2 of umbros) and mc cat genius performed. oh man, that was a pretty great performance. imagine two guys dressed as a cat and a pilot rapping to eddie murphy and michael jackson's "whatzupwitu" music video.

sunday: chicago at permanent records. kind of a tinier show to end the tiniest tour. perhaps the smallest turnout than the previous two nights, but enough to fill the tiny record store, regardless. we had some technical difficulties during our set, and at one point i was playing my guitar along to a sample that was no longer audible, but somehow we made it through. the last musician, coyote dg, had a minimal dance set, where representing members of each touring band contributed a live percussive instrument (i played the cowbell). it was a good way to end things. afterwards, there was another semi-afterparty at coyote dg's, where obelisk and mc cat genius gave another performance; half of which had to be taken to the streets, due to the complaints of an ornery (and confused) roommate, who woke up in the middle of their performance. casualties of the night: one milwaukee bucks bobblehead, which fell from the fireplace mantle, and the "N" key on my macbook, which vanished, mysteriously...

for each of the shows there was a lot of collaborative musicianship going on, which made things even more fun. ours and stumblesome's sets were finished off with a collaborative song called "meniscus" (though it was more just us contributing keys/bass/vocals to it - stumblesome was the real mastermind behind it), alex playing guitar alongside umbros, and the previously mentioned percussive jam-out with coyote dg. this is the way things should go!

in case y'all haven't heard of threadless.com, it's this nice little (big) t-shirt company where you can submit a t-shirt design, which is then voted on by the general public and has the potential to be printed/earn the designer some ca$h. it's a great idea, and there are some nice folks over there.

i've been invited to write two different songs based on winning t-shirt designs at threadless. check them out! songs are located on the right side of each page.
