Bubblegum Lemonade - Ten Years Younger She wants to seem as young as you are, Catch a light beneath your star, They put your posters underground, Your face is plastered all over town.
Here he comes again like he is in a race, To put that smile back on your face, The door's held open 'till it's shut, When the razor cuts.
Because I'm living a lie, to tell you the truth, I could sleep forever, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you.
There she goes again she's running through the rain, To hide back at his house again, The door's held open 'till it jams, Go hold him in your arm.
Because I'm living a lie, to tell you the truth, I could sleep forever, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you.
There he goes again he's running off to war, We can't find what he's fighting for, Perhaps they're hidden in the sand, Come home and take her hand.
Because I'm living a lie, to tell you the truth, I could sleep forever, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you. Because I'm living a lie, to tell you the truth, I could sleep forever, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you.
I'm living a lie, I'm living a lie, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you. I'm living a lie, I'm living a lie, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you. I'm living a lie, I'm living a lie, I'm living a lie, 'cause I need you.
Bubblegum Lemonade - Last Weekend
I never thought that it would end like this, That last weekend would be our last kiss. But there's one thing that I never saw coming, Yes, there's one thing I never foresaw.
Leaving from the station of her sunset town, That long road home, it could only let me down. But there's one thing that I never saw coming, Yes, there's one thing I never foresaw.
That was our last weekend, That was our last weekend.
Later in her garden she wonders what it meant, Burning fallen leaves and the letters that I sent. But there's one thing that she won't be burning, Yes there's one thing that she'll never burn.
That was our last weekend, That was our last weekend, That was our last weekend, That was our last weekend.
Bubblegum Lemonade - A Billion Heartbeats
There's A billion heartbeats in the Sun, Six billion hearts beat just like one, But what can he do, That boy's in need of you. Doo-doo-roo-doo, What can he do?
Bad blood is running in his vein, And from the street he calls her name, But what can he do, That boy's in need of you. Doo-doo-roo-doo, What can he do?
Bad blood is running in the street, He calls her name it sounds so sweet But what can he do, That boy's in need of you. Doo-doo-roo-doo, What can he do?
Bubblegum Lemonade - Lost Summer Days
If not me, Then who will it be? If not now, Then when will it be? Side by side, Together alone she said, But looking back, I can see that you are ahead. In the summer, in the sun, In the summer, in the sun, In the summer, in the sun, In the summer sun.
In life I try, I try to be me, But I'm just, I'm just, Who they see.
In the summer, in the sun, In the summer, in the sun, In the summer, in the sun, In the summer sun.
Bubblegum Lemonade - Unsafe At Any Speed
Hey hey honey, We're tripping through the Summertime, Sowing seeds and spilling wine, Wasting books and burning time, 'Till the bells finally chime.
Mary's chaining flowers on a Summer's day, Always knows the words to say, Kiss my tongue and come my way, 'Till the sun is down and gone away.
Girl put your foot down, As fast as you can see, This thing is unsafe at any speed.
Hey hey honey, We're sleeping through the Summertime, At the wheel ignore the signs, Up ahead as the hill climbs, All the years of wasted time.
She is changing costumes on a Summer's day, The sea wind has blown away, Catch her hair on salty spray, Jumps in to drive far away.
Girl put your foot down, As fast as you can see, This thing is unsafe at any speed.
(Guitar solo)
Hey hey honey, Drive into the Summertime, The sun is splitting cars in lines, Crashing down ahead of time, Explode on impact by design.
Girl put your foot down, As fast as you can see, This thing is unsafe at any speed. Bubblegum Lemonade - Last Time I Saw Andrew
Last time I saw Andrew, He'd been walking the dogs on the Green, For his folks and for a change of scene. We love the sound of hearsay in the morning, Antiques on shelves, Are dust on memories forming.
Last time I saw Carol, She'd been checking the just - in's at Marks (and Spencer), Nose through the baskets, the trolleys and carts, There's more than memories preserved in the jars, Some get the bus, Some Collect By Car.
Bubblegum Lemonade - My Dreams Of You
My dreams of you have all fallen through, And no one would hold out a hand.
Nothing is true, And nothing came through, The pieces they fell in the sand.
My dreams of you, Have all fallen through. Bubblegum Lemonade - Tyler
Hey there Tyler, You've got such a pretty face, Seen you hanging at Harry's Place, Lazing in the sun, Ignoring everyone.
Hey there Tyler, I thought I'd seen it all before, You poke your nose around the door, And run across the floor, Ignoring everyone.
You're always fighting with your brother, But it'll be over soon, When you sleep in the afternoon.
Hey there Tyler, No need to be afraid of me, Come and lie across my knee, Stretch your feline form, For here it's safe and warm.
You're always fighting with your brother, But it'll be over soon, When you sleep in the afternoon. Bubblegum Lemonade - Susan's In The Sky
Come and go with me, Down in the Summerhouse, TV and magazines, well, Girl they're not my scene.
In the Summer, we'll take the long road, In your father's car, In the Summer, in the night time, We'll sleep beneath the stars.
To work the nine to five, Would seem like suicide, I cannot live that life, When Susan's in the sky.
In the Summer, we'll take the long road, In your father's car, In the Summer, in the night time, We'll sleep beneath the stars.
Flying home tonight, It's just to speak with me, Coming down through clouds, Her phone is not allowed.
In the Summer, we'll take the long road, In your father's car, In the Summer, in the night time, We'll sleep beneath the stars.
Bubblegum Lemonade - Here They Come
I didn't know there was a problem, Until you told me, You say that you have the solution, Well, now you've sold me.
Here they come, You won't see them, Here they come.
I long to look just like the faces, That I see, On TV screens in public places, All around me.
Here they come, You won't see them, Here they come.
I long to look just like the faces, That I see, In magazines and my back pages, They fall around me. Here they come, You won't see them, Here they come, You won't see them, Here they come, They're the hidden persuaders, Here they come, They're the hidden persuaders, Here they come, You won't see them, Here they come... Bubblegum Lemonade - Beautiful Friends
I have got beautiful friends, she said, We're attracted like magnets from both polar ends, We go down on the town, We go out in the night, And if looks could kill, We would drop dead on sight.
I spend what I must, just, to make up my looks, But I'll tell you for nothing, It doesn't go on books, You should see the heads turn, As we stroll through the door, And if looks could kill, We'd be dead on the floor.
Moving in the market, I know the price is right, With used goods on offer, I'm comparing like for like, We go down on the town, People stare in the street, And if looks could kill, We'd be dead on our feet.
I have got beautiful friends, she said, We're attracted like magnets from both polar ends, We go down on the town, We go out in the night, And if looks could kill, We would drop dead on sight. Bubblegum Lemonade - I'll Never Be Yours
Lie awake in the morning, Or I'll get out of bed, sometimes, I'll sit by your window, Watch Louise on the railway lines.
I'll never be yours again, Runs through my head, I'll never be yours, Is what she said.
When I walk by the river, See reflections of what's not mine, Far away in the other side, Far away in another time.
I'll never be yours again, Runs through my head, I'll never be yours, Is what she said.
Lie away in the morning, Or I'll get out of bed, sometimes, I'll sit by your window, Watch Louise on the railway lines.
I'll never be yours again, Runs through my head, I'll never be yours, Is what she said.
I'll never be yours, I'll never be yours, I'll never be yours, I'll never be yours.
Bubblegum Lemonade - Penny Fountain
She's just that kind of girl, He wants to come into her world, He sees her every day, She moves to him, He turns away.
Put a penny in the fountain, To find out just how she feels.
He sees her standing there, And feels the breeze that blows her hair. Tomorrow'll never say, Tomorrow's just another day.
Put a penny in the fountain, To find out just how she feels.
Oh, Arthur Miller, Take them to the bridge.
She's just that kind of girl, He wants to come into her world, He sees her every day, She moves to him, He turns away.
Put a penny in the fountain, To find out just how she feels. Put a penny in the fountain, Put a penny in the fountain. Bubblegum Lemonade - The Tomorrow people
I know it's easy to do, Sit around and wait for something new, To come to you, tomorrow.
Always got some letters to write, Got some that I could see tonight, They're waiting out of sight, tomorrow.
Got some songs to let you hear, Something about love and hope and fear, I'll let you near, tomorrow.
Bubblegum Lemonade - Caroline's Radio.
Caroline lives for the radio, Caroline lives for the evening show, Lying in her bed, transistor to her head, Oh Caroline knows, Caroline knows.
Born in the Easter of '64, Warm winds of change blew her to the shore, The old ways on trial, from the right of the dial, Oh Caroline knows, Caroline knows.
SOLO.
Three miles off shore is where freedom thrives, And all three Kennedys are still alive, Tuned into the beat, from underneath a sheet, Oh Caroline knows, Caroline knows.
Sings to the songs that the Jockey plays, Modern-day knights of the medium wave, She's almost in tune, Beach Boys in her room, Oh Caroline knows, Caroline knows.
Caroline lives for the radio, Caroline lives for the midnight show, Lying in her bed, a sister to her head, Oh Caroline knows, Caroline knows.
Bubblegum Lemonade - Last Train To Clarkston
Saturday people at the train, Been out, they're coming home again, Again, again and again, Been out they're coming home.
Stood on the platform without shoes, She's got nothing left to lose, Yourself in a crowd of one, Don't draw a line beneath a line beneath your fun.
No waiting in the taxi queue. The suburb it is calling you, Homecoming queen upon her throne, On the last train, She's on the last train, I've missed the last train home.
Saturday people at the train, Been out, they're coming home again, Again, again and again, Been out they're coming home.
Mis-read the signals red on black, Honey I'm on the wrong track, Frustration in the railway station, I'm going back (repeat to end).

Hi guys, it's been a while since I last uploaded a brand new song, but wait no longer, here it is! With a journey time of just two minutes and thirty five seconds here comes the Last Train To Clarkston.
The current plan is for it to be scheduled (ha!) as a b-side on the next Bubblegum Lemonade single which will be released later this year.

Staying on a similar track, I've contributed a short article to Colour Me Pop's Intercity Baby '09.

"The zine is full of wistful reminiscing on journeys – be they by train, car, or airplane – and the wonderful people and pop events that await us on the other end. I cannot fully express how genuine and fascinating the stories are. I really can’t wait for you to read them!
Some of the contributors include Laz of Bubblegum Lemonade, Pete Green, Jenny of Strawberry Fair, Charlie of Bears and The Golden Rule, and Pete of Horowitz".
Thanks for reading,
Your Indie-Pop pal, Laz.

Read Anthony Strutt's interview in context here.
Lawrence "Laz" McCLuskey is a Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, who currently plays in two C86-influenced bands, Strawberry Whiplash and Bubblegum Lemonade.
While Sandra sings and Laz plays the instruments in Strawberry Whiplash, Bubblegum Lemonade is primarily a solo project in which Laz provides the vocals as well.
Both Strawberry Whiplash and Bubblegum Lemonade released their debut records on Jimmy Tassos' Matinee Records earlier this year, Strawberry Whiplash with the 'Who's in Your Dreams CDEP' and Bubblegum Lemonade with 'Ten Years Younger CDEP'.
With more records promised for later this year, Pennyblackmusic spoke to Laz about both of his groups
PB : You have two bands, Bubblegum Lemonade and Strawberry Whiplash. Where did you find the names for the bands and which of the two groups came first ?
LM : Bubblegum Lemonade comes from the Mama Cass Elliot debut 1969 solo album, 'Bubblegum, Lemonade And Something For Mama'. When I first saw it the potential for a band name jumped out at me. Also being obscure, Bubblegum Lemonade gives me an almost unique Goggle search result. I have learned this the hard way having previously been in a band called the Search Engines. What was I thinking ? A great name, but impossible to find online.
Strawberry Whiplash have the cute vocals of Strawberry Switchblade combined with the fuzzy guitars of Meat Whiplash. They were both local bands. 'Since Yesterday' and 'Don't Slip Up' are two of my favourite songs. As Strawberry Whiplash we have been recording demos for some years now making them the oldest of the two bands.
PB : Both groups are very c-86 influenced. Were you around to witness the movement first time around ?
LM : I saw Talulah Gosh, the Razorcuts, Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine in their heyday. Surprisingly it was Talulah Gosh who rocked the hardest.
PB : Is it true that Bubblegum Lemonade is more of a solo trip ?
LM : After my previous band fizzled out I began recording music on the PC, starting with a drum loop then adding other instruments on top. I love working with a band but it's so easy to put down some tracks when I've got a spare hour or two.
PB : How did you fall in love with indie pop and the whole 60s retro trip thing?
LM : The mid 80's Pop charts were truly awful and I was forced to look back (but not in anger). The indie pop bands had an intrinsic sense of melody countered with unusual guitar sounds. It was chalk mixing with cheese.
PB : What are you other influences. I can hear in your songs, the Jesus and mary chain, the Byrds and the Primitives. Are you fans of those bands ?
LM : Oh yes! When first getting into music, my favourites were the Velvets and the Byrds which of course led me towards the Mary Chain, Love, Rain Parade, the Kinks, Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine and so on.
During the recording sessions for Strawberry Whiplash's 'Who's in Your Dreams?' CD EP we were listening to a lot of the Primitives as they had just had a Greatest Hits released. Tracy Cattell has a beautiful voice, P J Court's guitar style perfectly contrasted the jangle of Johnny Marr and the fuzz of William Reid. It was produced to pop perfection by Paul Sampson. We were aiming to get something as good as the Primitives.
PB : How important has Myspace been in getting your name across to the indie folk of the world?
LM : It's been vital. No MySpace, no Bubblegum Lemonade or Strawberry Whiplash. I stuck some Bubblegum Lemonade songs up in 2006 not really expecting much of a response. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Pop Kids of the world were interested. If I hear a great new band on the radio I'll have checked them out on MySpace before the song has ended.
PB : You have a 60s haircut. Have you had any hassle in your hometown for looking retro ?
LM : Yes, that sure is me on the 'Ten Years Younger' sleeve but I'm not overtly retro. The DIY Punk look is back big time in my area. Compared to those guys I'm practically invisible.
PB : Do you have any plans yet to play live ?
LM : I have a guitarist, bass player and drummer lined up for live Buublegum Lemonade shows but up 'till now I've been busy recording the album. I must get that rehearsal room booked. I miss the table tennis and chip shop dinners.
PB : What attracted you to the sound of The Rickenbacker guitar ?
LM : It wasn't the price, ha! It has a unique Clang sound that cuts through the audio mix. Many of my favourite guitarists played the Rickenbacker; Roger McGuinn, Marty Willson - Piper, Peter Buck, Susanna Hoffs, Paul Weller and Johnny Marr. Did you know that there is a Rickenbacker International Airport ? You couldn't land a Flying-V there. A Jefferson Airplane, maybe!
PB :Did you sign to Matinee because they understand indie pop and they are the new Creation records ?
LM : Matinee is the new Creation, Sarah and Factory. Jimmy Tassos has the ears of Alan McGee and the eyes of Peter Saville. I'm going to have to see what that would literally look like in Photoshop. Matinee is about making the best possible pop records but in their own uncompromising way.
PB : Have either you or Sandra been in other bands at all?
LM : We have both previously been in the West Coast Indie Pop Art Band. My previous bands have been the Sherbet Fountains with Allison Thomson from Heist, the Spaceheads with Dave from Tesco Chainstore Mascara, the Stepping Stones and the Search Engines.
PB : Is the band thing full time?
LM : No, we're part-time indie popsters as we both enjoy our jobs and we need the money.
PB : What are your future band plans ?
LM : Strawberry Whiplash will have another CD EP out on Matinee Recordings later in the year and Bubblegum Lemonade will be releasing a second CD EP 'Susan's In The Sky' in June quickly followed by a debut album.
PB : Thank you for your time.
