WOW ! What a blast Mute Witness Cd Release party was at Duffys friday night!
This was the first time I've ever seen Mute Witness live and what a great show. One of the best I've seen in Chico.

"Gorgeous Amarda Presents" brought this lovely evening to the happy energetic rockers of Chico who desperately needed something alive and kicking to see on a Friday night besides the boring Mother Hips ( ol timer reunion ) going @ Lasalles the same night. Well yes, I have seen Mother Hips many times and each time it got more boring that the last so I don't care how many ol school hippie friends I offend with my music opinion about Friday night's performances. MUTE WITNESS WAS WAY BETTER!

Mute Witness delivered a night of feirce talent, soul stirring vocals, instrumental tightness, crowd pleasing fun, dancing, and alot of inspiration to the local music scene present at their Friday night Cd release party.
Many local Chico vocalist jumped up on stage between each new Mute Witness song performed and performed "the cover song of their own choice" accompanied by Mute Witness as their back up band and this was a very cool   format to set this very rockin and energetic full house show.

Mute Witness was awesome. Every song was crisp, clean, and perfect. One of  the tightest bands I've ever seen live. And they enjoyed being the back up band for all the covers songs from the local celebrity vocalists guest starring in their show, which provided alot of diversity in music and style.
It was like watching two shows in one.
"The Mute Witness show and the Local Rockers Variety show"

I must also say this, Mute Witness was the best dressed band I've seen in a long time. Those dudes were sporting some threads and looking good!
I've never seen men dress themselves so well.
I was very impressed with their look AND their sound.

Mute Witness is absolutely impeccable live and I was lucky enough to get one of the free Cd's signed by the band, the first time I ever saw them live.
I loved it ! What a great show so rich and luxurious with a ton of talent packed in a full room to the door at Duffys. The room was so full, at standing room only, I had to watch for a while from standing on a chair in the back it was so full. AWESOME VEIW and the sound was real good from that point actually.        It was so fun!

Mute Winess is the new hottest band in Chico that I can see. They most likely will be leaving Chico in the dust and probably going off to be big stars soon. Glad I was there when they were still in Chico with all the little people.
BRAVO !  Mute Witness  BRAVO !
The Guest Star Variety show in between Mute Witness songs, was alot of fun too and featured some very hot performances from Chico's finest vocalist as well. Here's how the night started.

Getting a VIP pass at the pre-party from Jpeg started the night out right and then he bought me a "Torpedo" beer while we chatted at the Banshee Pre-Party for just time enough to drink one beer then we scurried off to Duffys to see the show but we were still like an hour early so we sat in the "cool" corner of Duffys by the door and watched all the cool people come in and fill the house up for an hour.

I stepped outside to find a random cool person to give one free ticket to the show and when I got back Aubrey Debauchery was onstage just starting. She shredded the place wide open when she opend up the show at full room capacity with her version of a Prince song from his "Purple Rain" album/movie, "Nikki" . Aubrey rocked the house in a very passionate commanding performance. She was sizzling hot! Aubrey belted out that song better than Prince. It was a great song choice for her and it fit her very well with all her natural bold sexiness that sets the room on fire no matter where she goes.

I was thinking, if this was American Idol, all the dude "guest star" singers scheduled after her to go onstage certainly had a tough act to follow and they would be feeling it about now when she finished.  She brought the house down with just one song.! I'm not kidding. Aubrey is hot. She is a real rocker chick making it happen in a male dominated industry and she is an inspiration to everybody.

But when you got dudes like Handsome Gorgeous (Gorgeous Armada) and Cameron Ford (The Secret Stolen) stepping up to the plate as "guest stars" you will get your fill of outstanding performance from the men as well. Cameron Ford just blew me away in Febuary in the local production of The Who's 'TOMMY' as the best male vocal in that show (read my blog "Chico music scene storms Blue Room). I really would like to see him in more musical theater in the future. He's got some pipes and he's very cute. I would cast him in something like "The Phantom of the Opera" just on the merit of his vocals alone. He's that gifted as a male vocalist. He covered the classic "Good Lovin" from "The Rascals" and got everybody in a happy positive mood with that song.

Handsome broke out with a Hip Hop song from JAY-Z titled "99 Problems" and the house was hoppin hard! He's just as comfortable delivering Hip Hop vocals as he is with with Rock vocals and this is one of the coolest things about Handsome I really enjoy seeing when he performs. He is charismatic and very exuberant onstage and commands the audience and the band to eat right out of his hands in any of his crowd pleasing romps onstage. He's also the one who hosted the Mute Witness Cd Release Party show and is the creative genius behind "Georgous Armada Presents" who brought this show forth, as well as the creator of "Sleigh", the delightful christmas play we all fell in love with last Christmas.

Everybody who got onstage with Mute Witness rocked! I don't know everybodys name but everybody was awesome doing their favorite cover tunes in between Mute Witnesses new releases. It was great night with a great beginning, catching up with promotional talk with Jpeg, and a great ending; getting a ride home with Handsome at the last minute. We live in the same hood so it was nice getting home in one peice thanks to Handsome looking out for me. Thanks Handsome, You Rock! Great show Everybody!

After seeing TOMMY the last week of Febuary, I have been inspired more than ever by all these exceptionally talented Chico Rockers taking over the Blue Room Theater and showing Chico music lovers and theater goers how its done!

The audience going to see these hot performances make up a good chunk of the Chico music scene as well, as musician audience members coming out to see a good show featuring exceptional music to satisfy the soul of the local musician needing solid entertainment.

The recent production of  The Who's, "TOMMY"  was so exceptional the last Thurday night performance of the month, when I saw it, it took me a while to get a handle on writing this review because it was a very inspirational experience for me, and my friend who came to the show with me, who is also an accomplished electric violin player from the 60's and really enjoyed the show and the trippy 60's music that was playing before curtain call and during intermission.

First of all, we had a great seat in the front row and had a wonderful view of Maurice Spencer as the soul stirring, dreamy, heart tugging, ghost rockstar dad of Tommy hidden in the mirror that Tommy obsessively stared into for many years before he got his miracle healing later in life.

Maurice Spencer showed great acting abilities as the dreamy romantic male lead in his exceptional performance as Tommy's dad, and won the audience members hearts in the opening scene as the War Hero in love with a beautiful wife and baby on the way shockingly betrayed and shot down by his wifes lover who was also his best friend in the war.

Maurice Spencer then became a ghostly rockstar figure behind the mirror that only Tommy could see as he joyfully and lovingly sang all his songs to "little" Tommy  throughout Tommy's childhood with heart tugging emotion towards the son he could only reach through his music from the other side, all this while the man who murdered him was raising his son Tommy.
Maurice Spencer not only embraced, but truely championed the emotion and passion of it all and gave a very moving and quite soul stirring performance as the ghost rockstar dad, Mr Walker. Bravo Spencer !

From my point of view I have to give Maurice Spencer the best performance of the night. He was also the hardest working performer of the night; singing, acting, running around getting shot, romancing the lead female actress, opening and closing the show, joyfully singing to the boy with the loving gentleness of a father singing to his child, leading the band, and of course, shredding on the guitar with such caliber that Pete Townshend's mind would have been blown if he had seen the show.

Cameron Ford was the best male vocals of the night.
What a voice on this young man and a very exciting stage presence!

Cameron gave a very commanding performance as Cousin Kevin, and as the singer of the most famous song of the play "Pinball Wizard" which was originally performed by Elton John in the movie.
Cameron Ford really lit up the whole theater when he entered a scene and just broke out big and bold in the most gnarley songs that would challenge any vocalist. Specifically "the mean song" as I call it. The sadistic romp "Cousin Kevin".
Cameron's vocal range was incredible in this song and his timing with the spiraling guitar up and down the scales was absolutley impeccable.

This being Cameron's first performance in musical theater since elementary school, he knocked it out of the park and hit a grand slam !

Cameron Ford is the lead singer of Chico's own experimental band 'The Secret Stolen', who I have seen live twice in Chico. His singing style was so different in this role than what he does in 'The Secret Stolen', I didn't even reconize him as the same singer. I could feel a haunting familiarity in his voice that strirred me from somewhere not knowing that I had seen him before with "The Secret Stolen'.

Gina gets best female vocalist for her role as  "The Acid Queen "  portrayed by Tina Turner in the original movie.
All I can say is WOW!
Gina really wowed the audience with her dramatic entry through the thick fog and smoke from a dark corner from hell in the theater as "The Acid Queen". Her costume was a tattered and torn short red dress that fit very provacatively and gave her some bangin sex appeal as the wicked "Acid Queen" out to seduce and corrupt the innocent and helpless deaf, dumb and blind Tommy as an adolescent. Even though Gina only got one song in the whole play, and it was a very small but powerful role, her vocals were striking and her performance bold and sexy nabbing her the best female vocal of the night.

The Direction and Production of Tommy was done by the very mutli talented Jeremy Votava.

Jeremy Votava, or "~V~" as we call him on myspace, has a very interesting background that led him to The Blue Room Theater. Originally coming to Chico to rejoin with some of his band members in 96 after they broke up in SoCal bringing half the band to Chico after the break up, Jeremy Votava came here to rock and that was all he wanted to do at that time. He's played in about 6 bands since then and made a hard earned living as a carpenter building houses for about 8 years which led him to a job building sets for Chico State's theatrical department. He also worked in radio for 8 years before getting bit by the acting bug.

I first discovered Jeremy Votava, or "Mr V" as I like to call him, as an actor while playing the "Evil Santa" in Handsome Gorgeous's rockin Christmas rock opera "Sliegh" shown last December at The Blue Room. He was so funny in that and scarey at the same time. He totally shocked and confused all of us believers in Santa with his menacing portrayal of a deranged  "Evil" Santa. In that performance he rocked out with some commanding lead vocals of his own singing a "Bad Santa" song and presented a very strong stage presence in that performance.

While building sets for Chico State's Theater Dept, he was approached by the Musical Theater Teacher/Director at that time and was asked to audition for the spring musical '3 Penny Opera'.

"I told him I had only really sang some back ups in bands and had limited choral experience, plus I really didn't know any songs to sing for the audtion. He said "do you know happy birthday?" I said "well...yeah," sang it for the audtion and got the lead role of MacHeath (Mack the Knife). Had to sing 8 songs, 4 of which were solos in front of like 1,200 people a night @ Laxson Auditorium. That was the Spring of '99." Jeremy told me in our  interview.
"Then I did Shakespeare in the Park, Grease in the Fall as CSU, Chico (played Vince Fontaine, the radio DJ. Foreshadowing anyone?) My first Rock Musical experience was as the lead in "The Raven" @ The Blue Room in October of '99. From that point on I was bitten by the acting bug, or rather, it burrowed under my skin where it still resides today. Did Shakespeare in the Park 3 years in a row and also held the job as the Technical Director @ the Blue Room for about 5 years. I think I've Directed 10 shows performed in at least 40 and done some form of Tech (Lighting, Sound, Set Design) for well over 100."

Some of you local theater folks may know Jeremy for his direction of the hugely successful production of Hedwig and The Angry Inch. It was so well recieved that the show returned to perform  again the following year. I believe it still holds the record for most ticket sales ever at the Blue Room. He has also written 5 scripts that were produced on stage in Chico.

Jeremy I have to tell ya. I am truley inspired by a Rocker/Carpenter from humble beginnings who can arise this way and make such an impact on Chico's live theater performances and play a such a major role in preserving Chico's theater arts in this beloved community of performing artists.
And what talent you have!
It is because of you that I will get my chance at being a playwright now as well, and I do also come from humble beginnings and I am so excited to write my first play for the Blue Room for the upcoming "New Ink" Festival.

Bravo to all the performers, directors, and set designers in TOMMY !

You all rock!
Thanks for all the inspiration and for keeping musical theater alive in Chico.
Donna Love

"I loved this show so much last night , I'm going back for more tonight !
Get out there and see the finest cast and most exceptional talent Chico has to offer !
Go get your rock on to "Tommy" !
That deaf dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball !"

R.I.P. Jeremy Lusk 11/26/1984 - 02/09/2009
Freestyle Motocross Star Dies

Jeremy Lusk, of Temecula, CA, has died after he under-rotated a Hart Attack backflip and slammed head first into the dirt on Saturday, Feb. 7 in Costa Rica. He sustained severe brain damage and a possible spinal cord injury, said Jorge Ramirez, chief of the intensive care unit at Calderon Hospital.

Lusk survived an initial surgery late Saturday night that was intended to stem brain swelling, even though his chances of surviving the procedure were low.

"He was in a medicine-induced coma as a protective measure, and the medicine was being reduced to see how his organism responded," said Ramirez.

"That didn't mean he was going to wake up. He was in shock and that got worse last night, until he stopped responding and entered into cardiac and respiratory failure."

He died with wife, Lauren, his parents, and friends at his side at approximately 11:30 PM PST.

Lusk had just come off an incredibly successful 2008 season, in which he took home Freestyle gold and Best Trick silver at the X Games, and in the process landed the first ever double grab Hart Attack backflip. He also won both Freestyle and Best Trick gold at the X Games Mexico, finished third overall in Freestyle on the '08 Dew Tour, and earned a bronze helmet at the Moto X World Championships.

A trust has been set up in his memory, and donations can be made through the Athlete Recovery fund, www.athleterecoveryfund.com. Jeremy Lusk will be sorely missed and the staff at GrindTV offers our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Please visit his blog for more details. http://prayforjeremylusk.blogspot.com/

Best Rock Show Ever!

Friday's Opening Night for the HOT Local Christmas Musical written by and starred in by Chico's Best Rock Band for 2 years running in The Cammies, Gorgeous Armada, in their production of "Sleigh", their Christmas Rock Opera.

What a blast! It's about time Chico got our balls rocked off !

I am still in awe at what I experienced last night at the opening night of Gorgeous Armada's musical play "Sleigh" playing exclusively this weekend and next weekend ONLY! at The Blue Room Theater show times at 10:30 pm .
(tickets $12 in advance $15 @ the door)

I've seen alot of live performances in Chico and have been blessed tremendously in calling Chico my home for 20 years. I am so blessed to live and thrive in the Chico Music Scene given so many opportunities to dance freely to so much diversity and talent in Chico.

Last night was the cream of the crop !

First of all, You never know who is going to make a special guest appearance in the band. Last night I got rocked up close and personal by The Cowbell from Makia! Meaning: The dude on the cowbell getting all up in ya was the Bass Player for The Makia and tonight he was "Cowbell" in the local Christmas play.

If thats not fun enough, you never know who is in what costume! Cowbell from The Makia was wearing an irresistable doggy costume, and I had no idea who he was. Yep! That cute little puppy you always wanted for Christmas, was really a sexy rocker dude underneath it all.
How sexy is that ladies?

Too Much!

I had the best seats in the house, right next to the band so I was feeling it pretty good from the band; seated next to the band stage left Maurice Spencer who was getting very animated on the guitar. He gets people so excited just watching his intense "guitar god" moves during a live performance.
That boy has Rock n Roll moves that he must have learned from "The School of Rock" !

Nice moves Spencer! All while in costume as, of all things, "The Nut Cracker".
I don't know how he kept his hat on! That boy gets down with James Brown on stage! His guitar leads went very well with Jpeg's Crunchy chords coming from his own Axe. They both make an exciting team on guitars together.

But to turn to the players, who were mostly casted of local rock stars as well, I must say Handsome Gorgeous is a tripple threat as an Actor, Dancer, and Singer, and now to add to that list is a brilliant playwright. He did a fine job writing this delightful Christmas Rock Opera and developing the characters who were all either very adorable or very villianous giving the audience an emotional appreciation of character development, including his own lead role character as "John Sleigh"; a lonely detective with a southern accent who has an agenda on his mind and women at his feet.

But man can that dude rock!

Every song Handsome Gorgeous broke out in (with the rockin accompaniment of his band mates in Gorgeous Armada) Rocked the House! The music in this play will rock your world! Of course it is the live music of Gorgeous Armada that drew me into the Blue Room Theatre, which I haven't been in since the orginal cast of Blue Room Theater left to form the Rouge Theater. Myself being a concert fan of Gorgeous Armada's very fun eclectic live performances, this was the first time I've seen "Sleigh" because the last two years during the holidays I was very busy with The Norcal Cd Drive.

What a Christmas treat this show was!

The casting was a treat in it's own!

The lead singer of "Ol Yeller" being the "evil" elf rallying up the crowd with his wickedly delightful romps (attired only in his sexy red rompers). Musically, He rocked the house, with a command performance as the lead singer representing the "evil" elves out to destroy Santa. He delivered supreme lead vocals and natural showmanship for getting the crowd worked up, bringing a little bit of the dark side of Rock n Roll to the Christmas Play. Awesome and wickedly sexy as the bad boy of the night. Perfect choice to play the villian, superb perfomance.

The best female performance of the night by far, and I must say, she smoked the other female performers for lunch and almost stole the show right out from under Handsome Gorgeous in a stunning performance of her character as a little spitfire orphin ready to lead the crusade to stop the evil little elves from ruining Christmas, I'm speaking of the lovely and mega talented, Miss Aubrey Debauchery.

Another tripple threat. This girl out performed all the other female players even though her part was a supporting role rather than a lead role. It didn't matter, she made it her own and hit the ball out of the park on her first acting role in Chico. Miss Aubrey shined the most brightest of the cast last night and I may have to go with giving her the best perfomance of the night. She was cast in a charming little street tough boys role who occasionally broke out in some ferocious song.
Her lead vocal songs were wonderfully placed around the play at various times, and wow can she deliver!

Not only is she a rock star in her own right, leading her own prestigious band and blooming carreer as a lovely talented woman of rock AND country, she is now a force to be reckoned with in the theater and should be on Broadway in New York, or at least keep an open mind about that. She loves diversity in music and can deliver the goods in any style.
She rocks!

She rocked the house and brought it down! Getting 2 or 3 lead songs of her own to belt out in that hardcore rock and hip-hop combination that works naturally for her, as does any style she chooses.
She also had the privilege of a couple of duets with Handsome Gorgeous in this performance and they were matched very well together rockin the house down hardcore!
She showed exceptional leadership in getting the crowd excited as she led the crowd with a hip hop jump in her feet and a hard rock drive in her voice. I was star struck. In her character "little billy", she reminded me of peter pan in a magical way; all that passionate exuberant youth she emanated just sparkled as the brightest starry eyed kid on the stage. She may be small in stature but very large in talent, heart, and artistic ambition and can melt anyones heart in this performance. She was also the most alluring female in the play although cast as a male role.
Chico is very privileged to have her here with us now, because she is star bound!

Speaking of passion and heart I have to tell you what Gorgeous Armada went through to get the Blue Room Theater available for Christmas time to have their very entertaining play run these two weekends.

There is another play currently running on the same nights and after that play lets out at 9:15 pm, The cast and band of "Sleigh" have to wait til that play clears out then tear down that plays previous set and put up their own set every show night before their 10:30 pm show and be ready for showtime at 10:30 pm to stay on schedule for their II Act show ending at 12:30 am.

The beloved eclectic troupe of Rock Stars, Jesters, Entertainers, and Natural Born Comedians, called Gorgeous Armada (the band who wrote the play and composed all the music) has more heart and dedication I've seen in performing artists in Norcal in a long time. They captivate their live audience and keep you enthralled during the performance and a little high from their energy afterwards. They have kept the Fun in Christmas in Chico alive with their fun, whimsical, rockin the house music, and humorous production of "Sleigh" .

What a potpourri of talent for the Holiday Season !
Go see them! Only next weekend left for performances before Christmas Day.

Bravo Gorgeous Armada ! Bravo !
yours truely, Donna Love

Click on their myspace for ticket info and their video teaser trailer from last years "Sliegh II". I must say, the video does not even come close compared to the live performance at the theater.

2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Schedule Announced –
Four New Stadiums and Three New Cities Added to Schedule

AURORA, Ill. (June 23, 2008) – Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc., announced today the 2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, schedule, which includes three new markets and four new stadiums. The 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross season begins January 3 at Angel Stadium in ..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />Anaheim, Calif., and concludes at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas May 2.

..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

The traditional stop in Indianapolis will give racers and fans alike a new look as the race will move from the RCA Dome to the beautiful new Lucas Oil Stadium February 21. With a retractable roof, Lucas Oil Stadium can seat an additional 5,000 fans compared to the RCA Dome. Lucas Oil Stadium is the new home of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.

Since hosting its last supercross in 2002, New Orleans' Superdome has undergone dramatic changes due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. As part of the city's rebuilding process, Monster Energy® Supercross will return to the Superdome March 14. After reopening on September 25, 2006, the Superdome's increasingly busy schedule is synonymous with its rich heritage in the French Quarter. In February this year Monster Jam® set an attendance record by selling out the Superdome with 60,217 fans attending the first motorsports event at the venue since 2005. Adding Monster Energy® Supercross to the list of the Superdome's premier events is part of the developing economic growth taking place in New Orleans as the city returns to business as one of the country's most popular destination cities.

On April 4, the inaugural Monster Energy® Supercross race will take place at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Located on the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville, the stadium plays host to some of the country's premier entertainment events including Super Bowl XXXIX and Monster Jam, which recorded a record 70,611 fans earlier this year. Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is home to the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.

Monster Energy® Supercross returns to Salt Lake City's Rice-Eccles Stadium April 25 for the first time since 2004. The first supercross race held at Rice-Eccles Stadium took place in 2001 where 42,135 packed the home of the 2002 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies to watch Ricky Carmichael race to victory.

"The resilience that the city of New Orleans has shown over the past few years is amazing, and we are elated to bring Monster Energy® Supercross back to the Superdome," said Charlie Mancuso, president, Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc. "The state of Florida is home to many of the top stars of supercross and has a rich heritage for supercross racing, so bringing Monster Energy® Supercross to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is a perfect fit as it adds another great racing stop to the Southeast. In addition, bringing supercross back to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City after a five-year break will give fans from the Intermountain region a new look at today's supercross icons. The move to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is equally exciting and has been anticipated for the past few years. While playing at RCA Dome, we've been able to monitor the construction of the massive Lucas Oil Stadium, and in 2009 the move next door will be worth the wait."

"Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, is the preeminent supercross championship on the planet," said Rob Dingman, AMA president and CEO. "For 2009, the AMA is very proud to, once again, partner with Live Nation Motor Sports to showcase the international stars, teams and stadiums that make this championship the most exciting, best-attended and widely viewed competition of its kind anywhere in the world."

"The joint efforts of Live Nation Motor Sports, the AMA and the FIM have again set the riders' and teams' stage for an exciting 2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship season," said FIM President Vito Ippolito.  "For many riders and teams, Anaheim will once again be the start of their quest for the supercross grail. For the many supercross fans all over the world, it will be the beginning of another thrilling season. In the end, only one rider will be standing and he will be crowned the 2009 World Champion. With the consolidation of the AMA/FIM Series this past season into one unified World Championship, supercross has reached world status.  The next challenge will be to export Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, events worldwide."

The astounding attendance numbers posted at Atlanta's Georgia Dome signify the popularity of Monster Energy® Supercross in the Southeast. Over the past few years, attendance numbers have soared past 70,000 at the Georgia Dome, so adding Jacksonville to this region of the country helps balance the schedule.

"Year in and year out, the Georgia Dome has been one of the schedule's premier races, and we expect the addition of Jacksonville to follow suit," added Mancuso. "Our Monster Jam show at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium last year attracted a sell-out of 70,611 fans, so we are excited to showcase Monster Energy® Supercross in the market."
