Green Room Award winner Jacob Diefenbach (pictured) joins an all-star Brisbane cast in Homoneurotic, which will "thoroughly entertain" audiences, says producer Chris Maver (The Fruit Tingle Cabaret, In The Pink).

"Homoneurotic is a great night out at the theatre; it's entertaining, thought-provoking, subversive and full of comedy, controversy, colour, glitter and glamour," Chris said.

"As Queensland celebrates 150 years of history and culture, we're celebrating our gay history and culture, from the sexual orientation of Queensland's first Premier to our own personal journeys," he said.

Exploring the sexuality of Queensland's first Premier Robert Herbert, Homoneurotic debuts excerpts from Christopher Piggot McKeller's play, Letters To No 1st Lady, based on Herbert's diary accounts of his relationship with then-Attorney General, John Bramston.

Acclaimed artist David Dellit (accompanied by pianist Parmis Rose) will perform revamped Broadway songs in his examination of queer beauty, while Cinnamon Brown will treat audiences to a drag extravaganza and tribute to Lena Horne's version of Now Is The Moment.

New Albumen (Stacey Boyd & Louise Oldfield) will perform their hilarious and occasionally dark musical comedy, with songs like Lazy Eyed Susan and Club Foot.

Celebrating the joy of survival is Evelyn Hartogh, who will comically expose (in a South African accent) her politically confused, disenfranchised South African roots.

Hartogh tells the story of her forefathers: Dirk Hartogh who attempted to invade Australia in 1616 and Andries Pretorius who slaughtered Zulus in 1838, founded Pretoria, had a South African national holiday instated in his honour and many statues made to him and his massacre.

Direct from Mount Mee, princess of parody Trasey Chambers (aka Sue Drummond) will sing a few numbers with her talented (but less attractive) little sister Stasey (aka Mellisa J Evans).

Homoneurotic Cabaret will be hosted by Chris Maver (accompanied by Marcus Hughes on piano) and Ruth Gardner, and features design by photographer Hilary Green. The show will also feature entertainment by The Lesbian Supergroup.

Hi all!

Tickets for my new show in Melbourne, "Facing The Music", which is running at The Butterfly Club from 25-28 June are on sale now at www.thebutterflyclub.com

These shows are the high points of my year - and I can't wait to be back in Melbourne to play again.  Details below!

FACING THE MUSIC is a darkly comical and shameless self-referential look at what it takes to 'make it' in the music biz. With FACING THE MUSIC, Jacob is taking his greatest step into the world of cabaret to date, playing the struggling / eternally insecure and self-questioning artist - at once desperate to please, jaded, reflective and, at times, hysterical (it's not much of a stretch).

Deeper still, FACING THE MUSIC is about the dynamic and complex exchange between artist and audience; the magic that happens when the two are in perfect harmony ... and the disasters that transpire when they don't.

Described by The Age as a 'pathological chronicler of the human condition', Diefenbach's androgynous voice and unconventional brand of cabaret is truly unique and touches on themes of identity, sexuality and the many and varied masks we wear in day-to-day life.

Accompanied by the incredible cellist, Helena Redmond.

Hi all!

Just a quick blog to say I was fortunate enough to collect a Green Room Award in Victoria last night for "Best Original Songs" in the cabaret genre.

I was also nominated for "Best Production" in cabaret (but didn't quite make it over the line!).

A big thank you to David and Neville from the Butterfly Club, who accepted the award on my behalf last night. I can't thank you guys enough for your support.

Cheers,
Jacob.

Hey guys,
I was pretty chuffed to learn that I've been nominated for TWO Green Room Awards (Victoria's Premier Arts Awards) in the cabaret category:  best production and best original music.
The ceremony is on 20 April, so will keep you posted on how I fare.
Cheers,
Jacob.

My profile currently lists my gender as "female" (an easy enough mistake to make) and my star sign as "Capricorn" (which is completely unacceptable ... I'm a Leo, and have a rapid passion for cats). Does anyone know how to change this? I've been trying to edit my account settings but can't figure it out. Bah!

Hi everybody!

After the busy lead-up to "Downside Up" - and a hectic but successful run shows in Melbourne earlier this year - I'm presenting my first solo set in Brisbane since November last year.

This is a special event, and would love for you all to come along to a special night of music!

The dossier reads:

"Jacob Diefenbach and Mikki Ross present "Tales of Hope and Despair" - an evening of dizzying highs, unbearable lows, and creamy middles. One night at only at the Troubadour. Don't miss out!"

"TALES OF HOPE AND DESPAIR"

WHERE: THE TROUBADOUR, BRUNSWICK ST MALL (at the Ann St end, above Cosmos)
WHEN: THURSDAY, 19 MARCH, DOORS OPEN 8 PM.
COST: $12 ENTRY.

Over the last six months, I've been busy working with Emma Dean, co-writing "Downside Up", a musical cabaret that debuts at The Judith Wright Centre on Friday, 20 February. Emma and I have been working incredibly hard to create a show we can both be excited about and proud of! We'd also be lost without the invaluable input of Dirk Hoult, Tony Dean and Helena Redmond. Tickets are selling fast - we'd love to see you there!

PS: Emma was sitting at the bus stop today and Mandy Moore walked past her! No joke.

---

Sebastian Digby was born with an upside down face. for Sebastian, the only thing worse than seeing things the wrong way is only ever seeing things from the attic of the Digby family home. By strange chance, on the eve of his 21st birthday - and his imminent expulsion from the Digby family home - Sebastian flees through a mysterious tear in his wallpaper. He finds a world of ethereal beauty, arcane wonders - and Peggy, a girl whose very plainness is an intoxicating abnormality. The pair are immediately drawn to each other, and quickly fall in love. But the people of this world, like the family Sebastian left behind, are a proud, fearful, and jealous folk, who conspire to tear Sebastian and Peggy apart.

Downside Up is a cabaret-styled dramatic piece about what is truly beautiful, and challlenges people (quite literally) to see things from the flip side.
