Current mood:STOKED! ALWAYS!
"POWER TO THE POOR" is one of the 5 songs we recently recorded live in the studio with DANA FEHR of JUAREZ.

The plan is some guy with a whole bunch of cash is going to dig it and put out the full length we're almost finished writing. then world tours, private jets, hoverboards, and- if all goes to plan- mountains of jammer!

We.re back in business and have a few shows coming up in tucson, and a national tour planned for the end of the summer.
In the meantime, you are all invited to come to Tucson and rage with us

First and foremost, to clear up any rumors... No, we did not break up. Yes, we did cancel on the I Am The Ocean tour. No, it was not because IATO smoked Johnny Detroit into a reefer-coma.

What did in fact happen, was we lost our drummer (details are not import, however know that we do not wish him the best). Despite the (minor) loss, we have taken some time to regroup and are planning on being back on the road early 2008. We will be sporting a new drummer, some new songs, and facial hair to die for. So do not fret. Black Lung is alive and well.

and They Rode Their Weapons into War

The American Black Lung

Review

by Jo-Ann Greene

When rock first started rolling, preachers of many persuasions condemned it as the devil's music. Their views haven't shifted much in the ensuing decades, but many in the evangelical community's have. Deciding that maybe Satan had the right idea, they've chosen to turn his weapon against him; all hail the coming of Christian rock. The American Black Lung are the latest to enter the fray with their album ...and They Rode Their Weapons into War".But which war they're referring to, is a little difficult to distinguish. Presumably the werewolves, walking corpses, vultures, snakes, and serpents that slink round their obscure lyrics are allegorical, although what precisely they represent isn't always clear. What is apparent though, is that the band is disgusted by much of American life, its consumer society and violent tendencies. What's cloudier are the political undertones, which ebb towards the anti-war, but are so obscured in dramatic metaphor that whatever message the Lung are trying to deliver is lost in translation. So where's God in all this? Missing in action, so to speak, for there's no love here, nor mercy either, adding to the fatality of the set and its apocalyptic nature. That doomsday feeling is reinforced by the aggressive music and the shouted, sometimes screamed vocals. An incendiary mix of hardcore, hardrock, with a dollop of garage rock and a sliver of metal thrown in for good measure, the Lung storm across this set. Melodies are sometimes secondary to the thundering riffs, with the rhythms more varied than one would expect, a reflection of the current fashion for resurrecting the more experimental sounds of the post-punk era. All told though, Weapons is an exceedingly meaty set, with plenty to chew over both musically and lyrically.

The American Black Lung

...And They Rode Their Weapons Into War

Yeah. Finally some good rock/core stuff again directly from the States. Tucson, AZ The American Black Lung define themselves as a "rage'n'roll" band and honestly their only rage maybe is in the lyrics because the music sounds totally relaxed and played with a great amount of style and attitude. But this doesn't mean it doesn't sound intense and even kinda melancholic, nostalgic but at the same time hilarious especially thanks to the vocals and to the solo guitar. According to a personal feeling these guys play what can be considered a rock'n'roll version of the almighty Suicide File, the sounds are almost the same but the rhythm is clearly a bit slower and the general setup is less hardcore oriented even if the band doesn't forget to put a postcore touch in this album. I don't know if The American Black Lung consider The Suicide File as an influence but trust me, the sound sometimes is very similar and it makes this album surely more funny than I've expected it was. Some other influences could also be put between bands such as The Who (just name one) and modern garage rock acts. Which ones? Discover them by listening to this amazing piece, it has been a real surprise to me and I would just say to give some rest to your hardcore cds and to listen to something more relaxed which will not make you disgusted for sure!! The American Black Lung is just one of the most recent examples. Rock on! --Ivan
