El vocalista Khari Kill tambien conocido como Khari Obafemi, ya cuenta con un Nuevo trabajo discografico titulado Picture Of Selassie, este ha sido publicado el pasado 25 de septiembre bajo el sello Outta D. Ghetto Inc., en conjunto a Raptivism Records y EMI, estas ultimas son las encargadas de la distribución a nivel mundial.     Este artista nacido en La Horqutta de Trinidad, ha tenido mucha aceptación a nivel global, su éxito Picture of Selassie obtuvo los primeros puestos de las carteleras reggae. (redI) - Genau wie Chezidek hatte Khari Kill einen Big-Tune auf Bobby Konders "Truth & Rights"-Riddim & legt nun nicht zuletzt aufgrund dieses Erfolges ein komplettes Album nach. Dieses kommt bei einem kleinen amerikanischen Label heraus und steht den beiden o.g. Major-Produktionen in nichts nach. Ein fettes Album von einem Singjay, dessen Namen man sich jetzt erst recht merken muß.

I had never heard of Khari Kill before recieving this album in the mail but I'm god damn glad someone decided we needed to cover it. I didn't Google Khari or check him on Wikipedia, I just put in the CD and vibed. This is the best reggae/dancehall I've heard in a minute. Khari drops some serious Rastafarian overstanding but still varies his subject matter. From the weed dealer just trying to support his grandmother on Mary Grandson, to preaching the dangers of meat eating on Mad Cow, to Khari's love song As I Am where he speaks on educating his woman about Selassie and Rasta ways. And the production is sick. Bobby Konders handles three tracks, which not coincidently are some of my favorites, especially Free Jah Cure. On this song Khari speaks on reggae legend Jah Cure and his imminent release from prison, and really about all those that are unjustly imprisoned. How good is this album? My girlfriend who doesn't smoke weed or listen to much reggae, is always singing along when Marijuana Pumping is on, "Marijuana got my mind pumpin'..." Picture of Selassie is a classic album end to end; one for my Top 5 Albums of 2007 list for sure.

Born in the ghetto of La Horqutta in Trinidad and currently based in Brooklyn NY, Khari Obafemi Williams -- known in reggae circles as Khari Kill -- can be regarded as one of the most promising new conscious singjays to emerge in recent times. In 2005 he recorded the single "Picture Of Selassie", a cut on Massive B's refurnished version of Johnny Osbourne's "Truths & Rights" riddim, which instantly put his name on the reggae map as it hit the reggae charts worldwide. More singles followed including "Mary Grandson" (again for Massive B), "Bird Pepper", "Jesus", "Marijuana Pumping", "Feeling U" (all of them for Outta D. Ghetto Inc.) and "While I'm Living" (Lustre Kings), which aroused new attention from Brooklyn to Berlin, Trinidad to Tokyo. And now Khari Kill's much anticipated first full length album -- just like his very successful debut single titled "Picture Of Selassie" -- has been released by record label Outta D. Ghetto Inc. The 15-track cd features songs that rage against oppression, poverty, racism, injustice and evil principalities in both high and low places. Of course there's "Picture Of Selassie", one of the strongest tunes included on this set. But there are more great efforts around, each of them unmistakable showing that Khari Kill is a major talent. "Bird Pepper" is a very strong album opener, which is delivered over the solid "Sign" riddim. Khari Kill tells a wonderful story with "Mary Grandson" across Massive B's "Jah Love" riddim, actually a remake of Yabby You's "Warning Da Nation". The real nice "Reality" riddim underpins "Smoking Around", the first of two solid herb tunes included here, the other being "Marijuana Pumping" over Marlon Asher's "Ganja Farmer" riddim. Even though "Free Jah Cure" can be seen as an 'outdated' tune because the Cure has already been released, it's still worth of hearing. Great lyrics and an awesome riddim track make "Jesus" one of the stand outs. It's followed by the solid "Mad Cow" on the "Patience" riddim and the great Lustre Kings production "While I'm Living", which utilizes the "New Day" riddim. Overall this is a truly worthwhile debut album from an artist who has the skill and talent to become a powerful force in conscious reggae music.
