A Latina lesbian accepted by her family is a refreshing change to see in the film world. Young Anna's (Melonie Diaz) problem is not her sexuality but normal growing pains. She's figuring out who she is, getting comfortable in her own small-chested body, and dealing with complications in relationships. Her journey starts when she, by chance, meets Sadie (Nicole Vicius) and gets drawn into a radical, micro feminist group called Clits in Action. The silly stunts C(i)A perform are not important to the film because the plot is all about Anna's coming of age and standing up for herself.

Girls who 'remember when' will appreciate the Blondie-esque music, Sadie's Jennifer Tilly like voice, and the small part by Guinevere Turner (Go Fish). All girls will enjoy the couple of scenes with Daniela Sea whose character Calvin is much like that of Max who she plays on The L Word.

The LGBT Kick Butts programs would probably agree that there's way too much smoking in this film. And another problem I had was with an answering machine being used as a device for Anna to hear from girls without picking up the phone. She has a cell phone so there's no reason for her to have her own landline at her parents' house. The good news is, by the end of the film we know she'll be moving away from home soon.

A TRIP TO PRAGUE, illustrated with beautiful simplicity, tells a four and a half minute story of how a man finds a special connection to Prague. It's amazing how a whole story can be told in such a short time.

Barber's Crossing, on the contrary, is 20 minute. The story of a cross-dressing barber in a small town is engaging but way too developed for a short. I spaced out during the middle and still got the gist. The concept isn't strong enough for a feature length film, but with some editing it could be a great 10 minute short.

Coffee Date is an indie film alternative to IN AND OUT. As I watched Todd try to prove his heterosexuality while developing a close relationship with a gay man, I kept thinking I knew him from somewhere. Most people will find a familiar face in Sally Kirkland, who plays the quintessential mother. Just plain fun, this film offers plot twists and characters that everybody can identify with.

LOVING ANNabelle will definitely appeal to lesbian audiences. Why is that we love those schoolgirl films? Maybe its because a lot of us need to move on from our teenage issues and have a real life. This is the case in this film about a teacher at an all-girls boarding school who deals with the classic class bitch and mousy characters. But with the help of the new student she starts on a path to more fulfilling existence.

GYPO is just that. Its a gorilla production that goes on for an hour before theres even a glimmer of gay content or a story. People who like artsy-fartsy film may like it, and if you can make it through the first part about Helen without turning it off, youll probably be able to watch the whole thing.

Gypsies, Tramps, and thieves is similar to GYPO in that its not quite clear what its about or how the characters identify themselves. But some viewers like ambiguity, and this short about two teenage girls has that.

GILLERYS LITTLE SECRET offers wonderful cinematography and production quality, but the writing couldve been better. The story concept is wonderful but a tricky one to get across with finesseespecial on screen. Still its one of the best shorts Ive seen so far this season.

LOVE SICK is about one girl who falls in love with another girl starting college and away from her family for the first time. Thats the LOVE part. The SICK part involves the first girls family and is what makes me give this film a thumbs down.

LAUGHING MATTERS...MORE! features four lesbian comics. Some people may not think all four ladies are funny, but they probably wont dislike all four. Theres something in here for everyone. I personally loved three out of the four. But remember this is a documentary, so its not a laugh a minute, but very entertaining throughout.

MOVING OUT is a cute story about some adorable girls, although the acting isnt so hot. The music made a wonderful thread for this short film.

A LOVE TO HIDE gives a suspenseful look at a Jewish girl and the queer boy she loves in war-torn Paris during World War II. Its a tragedy as any true war flick will be, and I didnt get all the little political ins and outs, but I sat on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.

BROKEN SKY portrays the ups and downs in the relationship of two Latino college boys. The English subtitles didnt really make a difference since very little talking took place. I felt itd be a little too arts-farts for an SB audience. Although some folks might enjoy the affection between the two youngsters. I kept say, come on, come on, get on with it. But I happened to see THE JOY OF LIFE on a Wolf Video top-ten list recently, so this genre is obviously popular. If you go see it at a festival be warned that its 2:20 TRT.
