"Quarterlife" is a show created by Marshall Herskavits(creator of "my so called life") about friends and aspiring artists in their 20's. It airs on myspace on sundays and quarterlife.com on mondays. China Room's songs are incorporated in part 1 and part 12 as well as both end credits. Equally cool is the great online community designed to bring artists of all kinds together on quarterlife.com. Check it out!!!

I am sitting near a crazy man in the Library. He is fat, black, wears glasses, freshly shaven, and has all of the equipment that would indicate that he is an avid cyclist. He sits down to study and grabs three gigantic books that were hidden by a window sill. He puts in his ear plugs. The girl next him is talking quietly on her cell phone. He makes loud kissing sounds at her. Prolonged vocal squeezes. After a moment he sighs out of annoyance. At this point he is far more of a distraction than she ever was. I wonder if he can hear her with his ear plugs or if he can only see her and is perturbed nonetheless. "Miss, can you continue your conversation outside." His voice is so loud it sends adrenalin rushing through my stomach. Half the library looks over. She hangs up. He has now spent a solid 15 minutes neurotically controlling his study environment. He gets up and makes three trips to move all of his stuff 15 feet away to another chair with no discernible difference from his last. He takes his shoes off. He puts on his neon green sandals. This makes me suddenly concerned with how contained my feet are feeling. I have now been unable to write my philosophy paper for 19 minutes. There is a young woman getting up from a chair across from him. As she takes her time to gather her things he gets her attention to shoo her away. She does not seem to understand what he is doing. I'm unsure that I do. She spends the 2 seconds more she needed to collect her belongings and he stares her away. He pulls her now empty chair toward him. He carefully lays his towel and shorts over the chair and removes the cushion and fixes it in such a way that he could rest a book on it without effort. He has now spent 25 minutes assembling a study environment of perfection. His book is in front of his face and he looks at it poised with industrious intent. He means business. But now he sleeps.

Nearly half of us are in love. That hasn't made things quieter but it means there is more romance in the sound that is coming out right now. The live version of "Stuck in the Middle" (far different from the record) has become one the most invigorating pieces to play for us. If you haven't heard it, we've added this gypsy-jazz-it's the end of the world anyway, so why not get down- section. A similarly articulate energy that inspired that section is coming out in a lot of the new stuff. The songs are getting more complex and there is a collective urge to sophisticate our flavor. It feels good. It feels very good. In less emotional news, we're now working with a manager who's knowledge and energy has been guiding and exciting recently - his name is Will. He's finished booking a West Coast tour for us this summer (starting in early July) that runs up California through Oregon and ends in Seattle. He's also working on an East Coast tour set to take off this fall for about two months - New York, Boston, Phillie and others. We'll kiss every city we can. This will be out of control - we'll need water, lots of water. We've all been through enough fracture and hopelessness that the 150 pound bear-trap of skepticism we've got gnawing into our ankles is starting to fit comfortably. But it's bite has loosened a bit, and the way things are happening - it's hard not to feel that the stars might actually be aligning for us.
