"STARTS" is now available for FREE Download! (For the time being, at least)

Hello there,

Somebody with a lot of free time on their hands uploaded my debut record, STARTS, in its entirety here.

All eleven songs have been converted into 256k MP3 files. I know what you’re thinking, and you’re right...that’s 96k higher than those RADIOHEAD MP3 files!

All kidding aside, this is a excellent opportunity to grab a free digital copy of my album while it remains out-of-print in physical form. I’m not certain how long this will be up, so please act fast! Please feel free to spread the word and pass it along!

Naturally, this digital version lacks the credits of the other players and engineers who made the album what it is. Please find those details below...

Hey there!

I've been meaning to make note of this here in MySpace land, but I've also been busy trying to spread the word elsewhere! I'm currently running an eBay auction to benefit Callum ROBBINS. As many of you know, he is the young son of J. ROBBINS (JAWBOX, BURNING AIRLINES, CHANNELS) and Janet MORGAN (CHANNELS) and he has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic motor neuron disease that is presently incurable. Since his condition was made public, many members of our musical community have been rallying around him and his family in an effort to raise money for Callum's care fund.

Sunday was Callum's second birthday which is a remarkable milestone for a kid with his diagnosis!

In any event, there's loads of great items up for bid here! In fact, a few more things were just added today! Most of these auctions will end in about a week, so take a look and start bidding now! All proceeds will go directly to Janet & J. to help ensure that they have sufficient resources to continue their search for effective, lasting treatment.

Thanks for reading! Please feel free to pass this around and spread the word!

Take care,

Drew O'DOHERTY

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to take a quick moment to let you know about Saturday night's benefit show for Jeanne SHEEHY at T.T. The Bear's Place in Cambridge. As some of you might already know, Jeanne is a longtime bartender at the club who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. T.T.'s has been hosting a series of great benefit shows to help assist Jeanne with her accumulating expenses. I'm very glad to be joining BUFFALO TOM, Thalia ZEDEK, Meghan TOOHEY, THE PAINTED LIGHTS, & KEYS TO THE STREETS OF FEAR in pitching in to help Jeanne. Additionally, I'm looking forward to playing my set with a one-off electric band that includes my dear friends Scott CRAGGS, Chris ERNST, & Adam SYLVIA. Hope that you will join us for one of the last great shows of the year!

Here's the lowdown!

For Callum, a 2-CD benefit compilation for Callum ROBBINS is now available for order!

This 2-CD compilation features 32 rare and exclusive tracks from artists including MISSION OF BURMA, CHANNELS, MEDICATIONS, Joe LALLY, and me! My contribution is a solo recording of "You'll Believe A Man Can Fly", a song which once belonged to my teenage rock band, SIDEREAL. The double album's complete tracklisting can be found here. For only $17.00 you can own a great compilation and help out this family in need!

For any of you unfamiliar with Callum's situation, here are some words from the compilation's curator, Zach BAROCAS.

Our friends Janet MORGAN (SHONBEN,CHANNELS) & J. ROBBINS (JAWBOX, BURNING AIRLINES, CHANNELS) have a son, Callum, who turned one year old in January, 2007. Approximately 6 months prior to his birthday, Callum was diagnosed with with a genetic motor neuron disease called Type 1 SMA, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Type 1 SMA affects the brain's ability to communicate with the voluntary muscles that are used for crawling, walking, head & neck control, breathing, and swallowing. Most Type 1 babies will die before their second birthday. Infants who do survive into childhood face a life of occupational therapy, wheelchairs, and assistive devices. There is currently no known cure. The fact is that Callum is pressed for time & his parents need help now.

Although conventional medicine is frequently covered by insurance, alternative procedures & therapies are not. As Janet & J. pursue all available courses of treatment for Callum, the need for additional funds has become increasingly urgent.

The Cultural Society, Catlick Records, & Letterbox compiled this collection of songs in order to raise money for Callum's care fund. All proceeds will go directly to Janet & J. to help ensure that they have sufficient resources to continue their search for effective, lasting treatment. Though our energies here are focused on the plight of our friends, it should be noted that a cure for Callum could also mean a cure for the other thousands of babies who suffer from SMA.

Please order a copy today and pass the word along!

Thanks so much!

All the best,

Drew

So, I've just learned that some folks have been experiencing difficulty reaching me via my website's email address. My apologies to anyone who hasn't heard back from me, as I'm apparently not receiving many of the emails that have been sent there in the past.

It's a total drag and I'm sorry that I didn't find out sooner.

For the time being, please direct your correspondence to drewodoherty@gmail.com. If you've written me and haven't received a response, please just re-send your message it to this new address.

Once again, that's drewodoherty@gmail.com!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Take care,

Drew

So, I've dusted off another old recording to share with all of you folks. I recorded this cover of "There's Always Tomorrow" for This Is Christmas, a holiday-themed compilation record that Eskimo Labs released a few years ago. Written by Johnny MARKS, this song originally appeared in the 1960's Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer TV special. RED RED MEAT also recorded a lovely version of the song on their tremendous 1995 album Bunny Gets Paid. Anyway, while I realize that it may be a bit early for a Christmas song, I think it's ambiguous enough for any time of the year.

Recording details...

Drew O'DOHERTY-Guitars, Real & Toy Pianos, Vocals, Wineglasses, & Xylophone
