We now have a free download of the brand new recording of Black & White available to all you lovely people at our website WWW.DETROITSOCIALCLUB.NET. As if that were not enough, we have also put up the new album recording of Rivers & Rainbows for you to lend your ears to. Think of it as an early christmas present, our gift to you for your eternal patience and unwavering support.
We're also doing a free gig at The Flower Pot in London on Wednesday (9th) followed by a few club shows around the country, just to dip our toes into the fountain of live gigs again - it seems an age since we have toured! Needless to say we're excited about the prospect.
In other news, we're getting all the behind-the-scenes-nonsense (video/photoshoot/dates) sorted for the first proper single, which we hope will be released sometime in February, with loads of gigs before and after it.
Enjoy!
David.

After months of trying, we finally got to play our first gig on foreign soil, in the form of the Transmusicales festival in Rennes. It was definitely a case of being thrown in at the deep end!
Now you don't have to great at Geography to know that there's a little bit of distance between here and France. So, after a six hour bus drive, a train journey across the channel, a little taxi ride across paris, and another mammoth train journey, we finally arrived at around midnight, and went straight down to the festival. Six hours and a red wine fuelled house party later, and it was time for some rest. Or so I thought. 2 hours of press interviews (French & Swiss national radio, Virgin amongst others) made me realise how big a deal this festival was, and that we'd been long touted as one of the highlights of it all. No pressure then! Bearing in mind how early it is in our quest, it was surprising to find out how much people knew about us, they all knew we had just finished the album, that we had supported Oasis and Primal Scream, and that ( a high point of interest for some reason) we used a sitar in a couple of songs! I was even quizzed on particular lines of our songs, which was slightly strange when done through an interpreter. Everyone seemed genuinely excited by our presence at the festival.
We were on at 11.45pm Friday night, which we were told was one of the best slots. Its an indoor festival, though the "indoor" arena is a 5500 capacity hall, which - when filled with people, and coupled with the fact we've been away from gigging for a while - was a pretty intimidating thought. We didn't need to fear, the french crowd we're amazing, and pretty vocal. Spotting people in a foreign crowd singing back our words was one of them rare moments in life, that stops you in your tracks and makes you appreciate everything we are doing, and have been working hard for over the course of the last 12 months.
The gig was recorded for French television, so hopefully we'll be able to post some footage up pretty soon.
Needless to say, but we didn't go straight to bed, and the journey back the next day wasn't anywhere near being fun!
rennes, nous disons merci pour votre hospitalité. Vous êtes stupéfiants et nous vous verrons avec optimisme de nouveau très bientôt!
David

6 months in the making, after going through every type of emotion humanly possible, and working ourselves to the absolute maximum, the ALBUM IS FINALLY FINISHED! Mastering was finished on Thursday, and it's sounding GREAT! (But we would say that!) Were just confirming the track order, and carrying on with the artwork up until Christmas.
We should have some news on rough release dates for a single/EP very very soon (long time coming, I know!) and we'll let you know as soon as we do. Needless to say, we cant wait for it to be 2010 and get on the road to start promoting it!
David.

Hey hey,
So...for the first time in nearly two years, we've all had a week off. 7 days of planned reading, watching, and doing ultimately ended up being a week of absolute and infinite boredom. It's strange how the only time you realise how fast your travelling is when you actually stop. It also shows that you can never really take a break from a job you're in love with. Although, it must be said that 2009 - even though we've been away hiding in studios and the like - has been a pretty hectic year, so the opportunity was seized with all twelve hands.
However, we're back now, feeling match fit and ready for action. First thing on the agenda is to finish the album mixing. So far the singles are all pretty much there, done and dusted. The album tracks are taking a little more time, mainly due to the pedantry of yours tuely! We're also about to hit the studio next week to lay the strings on a coupel of the songs. We're using the people who played on Elbow's Mercury award winning album 'The Seldom Seen Kid,' so we're massively looking forward to that.
We've also been pressing ahead with the artwork side of things, and there are some interesting concepts being thrown up. I can never understand why some bands dont pay more attention to how their work is presented, so teh artwork has always been important to me, and I really eblieve that its going to look amazing, if the first few meetings are anything to go by!!
Last but not least, the thing that we have really missed is playing gigs. We always knew we were going to have to go away for a few months (which has turned into 6!!) to make the album, but still, it's been toooooo long! We cant wait to get back out there and pick up where we left off, especially to get some of the new material out there live. We'll be announcing some club dates pretty soon for those that can stay up past 11!
Ill write another blog in a couple of weeks time, by which time the album should be 'in the can'! David Burn.
P.S Greenies thought of the week....Why do TV channels, when discussing filesharing, always go to people like Shakira and Nelly Furtado. from their million dollar mansions, they clearly don't give a shit. Get some new, young bands onto the issue.

Right, so it's been quite some time since our last blog...In fact, it's been almost 6 month! By anyone's standards, that is ridiculous, and you have our sincere apologies for it! However, hopefully you will excuse us, as it has been born from extreme hard work, rather than simple idleness (honestly!)
Anyway, as I sit in the back of a van outside Bristol Academy, I thought Id take the time to explain what we have been up to, and what the plans are for the album etc. We've been asked a lot on tour, so I thought I'd give it from the horses mouth, as it were!
Since our last blog, we have been pretty much doing two things; festivals and recording! Firstly, the festivals - ah, what fun they were! Whilst our biggest festivals (Rockness, Leeds, and reading) were amazing - in particular Rockness and Leeds - we found it was the little 'boutique' ones that set our hearts racing. It's hard to descrivbe the beauty of these events; the intimacy, the atmosphere, the settings. I always find it interesting to think of things as human beings; as characters, each with their own style, their own attitude and mannerisms. Instead of giving a sense of small person syndrome, you get the impression that festivals such as Secret Garden Party, Truck, Bingley and Kendal Calling bask in their size. They burst with pride that they could be bigger, but don't want to be. The retainment of that communal sense is just more important than becoming another overstated, commercial entity on the calender. And so it was, we arrived, we played, we drank, we met, and we had shit loads of fun along the way. Thank you to all the people who made it as it was, and for letting us play. Hopefully we will see you next year, too. And can we also thank Oasis, who allowed us to be the last ever band to support them at one of their shows. The small gig at Bridlington Spa was amazing, as Im sure anyone who was there will testify.
When we have not been on the road, we have been recording our debut album at numerous studios (Monnow Valley, State of the Ark, and our humble abode in Newcastle), produced by my good self, and Jim Abbiss. We have always believed that it is more important to take our time with the album, get it right, make it sound the way we want it to sound, rather than rushing a half-arsed 10 song collection out. We have needed to grow as a band, I have needed the time to decide what kind of album I wanted to make, and Im pleased to say that it is starting to sound amazing, and we are all really proud of it up to now. As far as helping us do that, we couldnt ask for a better record company, or management. They have let us semi record it ourselves, of which we are nearly finished, and have helped us every step of the way. We are now pleased to find the recording nearly finished, and will hopefully be on to the mixing stage later this month, or early next month at the latest. Obviously it is frustrating that getting the record right is so time consuming, but we genuinely feel that it will be worth the wait. We have also decided - to tide over the waiting - to release a 4 track EP (release date to be confirmed, but hopefully Late October) Obviously, such a release could not pass by without a little headline tour of our own, so watch this space for announcements for that!
As we haven't entered the mixing stage, any mention of release dates would be guess work, but we are hoping it will be early 2010. We do genuinely appreciate your support, especially those we have been lucky enough to meet on the road this year, we have met some great people. By that time, we should have a nice new website in place, too.
Id also like to say thanks to any new fans that have come on board since seeing us at any of the festivals, or support shows we have played. Thank you!
Now the pressure is off a little, I hope to keep up regularly with some blogs, some about us, some about other stuff, and some about absolutely nothing!
David Burn

15/03/09 Carlisle Brickyard
First date of the tour! And We're still in our inflatables and hot tub van. Yep, we were all pleased about that! Alans back driving the van for us so we get there in good time, though it's only about an hour to Carlisle anyway. Everyone seemed knackered (for the START of the tour?!) Dave and I did an interview with a corpse (Was like that Stone Roses interview, except we were a little more sociable!) Got set up early, but didnt start sound checking til late, so only had 20 mins. We were well entertained though... Dave wrestling Glover (the soundman!) all over the floor of the Brickyard. Had a go at American football as well, didnt quite work out. Soundcheck didn't sound great but didn't have time to do anything about it, this was about quarter to eight and doors were 8.30 and the support bands had to check.
There was a coach load of people from Newcastle who'd been sat in the local pub for the last hour or so (the locals seemed to love that!) I got id'd about 10 times, much to the jealousy of the others. Went back to the venue to watch the support band (tonight its a band called Mazzoni from White Haven and Newcastles Night of Sevens) who did an excellent version of the Velvet Undergrounds Run Run Run. We played well considering the sound of the room, people seemed to really enjoyed it. The coach left soon after so we just sat in the dressing room for the rest of the night.
16/03/09 Glasgow King Tuts Wah Wah Hut
Drove back from Newcastle last night and got in early so was hard to get up this morning. Got to Glasgow in good time, probably the knowledge that our van now offers the new service of inflatable sumo suits aswell as bouncy castles and hot tubs, direct all enquires towards the myspace we'll get you a good deal. (we'll have to put up a picture of the van were driving around in...just so you know were not making this up!)
Got set up and had a sit down meal at Kings Tuts, it was Dales 19th bithday today so a cheeky glass of wine was drank. We'd already celebrated it a bit after midnight last night at the gig, so we were sensible! We were playing with a couple of Scottish bands called The Black Hand Gang and the Common Empire. Dave and Dale went off to do an interview for THE BANTER magazine. .
It ended up being a busy gig (we werent sure how well attended it'd be as The Enemy and Doves were playing Glasgow as well!) Everyone seemed to enjoy the show. We chatted on for a bit then headed off pretty much straight away. Didnt get back to Newcastle until 4am. All proper goosed. Started bringing the equipment back upstairs in the service elevator in the practice rooms and once again some of us ended stuck up in a lift (just what we needed!) until half 6.
We tried to get them out pulling the doors ourselves but that didn't work and its a 1930's lift shaft there was one technician who could fix it but he must've lived in the 1930's seen as he ended up taking just under 3 hours to arrive so we had to entertain ourselves for that long, Glover thought it would be a good idea to turn all the lights off outside of the lift and pipe freeform jazz music into the lift loudly. We found some voodoo masks and watched them through the window in the lift with them, Dale serenaded them. We all sobered up, at which time it just wasn't funny anymore! Escape commenced at half 7!

05/03/09 London Koko - Setting off the day before the gig at Koko in London we turned up at the practice room to load the gear in the van, a new van. Turns out we were to be promoting Hot Tubs and Inflatables on this little road trip..there'll be a picture to follow i'm sure. All we did tonight was drive down to London watching 'Easy Rider' with French subtitles which were more irritating than Roy Walkers advert. UN KILO DE MARIJUANA!
06/03/09 Day of London Koko gig- I woke up this morning with This Morning on the telly it was a feature on adoption and how some people have been told they're unfit to adopt due to their weight issues, and it had a couple on who had been saying how much weight they'd lost and they were being told its inspiring how determined they were. Me and Dale went for a wander round London cause we'd woken up early, Dave was meeting Jim so we had some time to kill. We went to get some breakfast once we'd met everyone else and on the way passed a Mc Donalds where sat in the window stuffing there face with two Big Mac meals were the couple off This Morning needless to say this made my day. We went to Kings Cross where we were given the oppurtunity to wait in huge queues and force our way through big crowds, it was great.
We got the tube to Piccadily circus where we were going to wait for Dave we saw Kate Silverton off BBC1 news presenting something turns out she has massive hands, never saw that one coming. I think its fair to say they had to film it as many times as they did because of us. We met Dave and went to the Solicitors where we were going to sign our managment contract with Wildlife, apparently they trusted us with the nice board room so we sat round the table and got talked through it then all signed.
Then we had a bit of time before we had to get across to the accountants somewhere else in London so we played the see how many Gok Wan look alikes you can spot game. We went to the accountants for a while then when we got out Dave and Welshy went for their doo's done. Then it was almost time for soundcheck, so we had to get over to Camden. We got to Koko and loaded all our equipment in, its a nice venue like an old theatre reminded me of the Olympia in Dublin. We met Screaming Lights who are supporting us on the tour this March, we soundchecked then went next door to the bar. The gig was good and we nearly had a spinal tap moment getting to the stage though. It was a club NME night at Koko so it was a full house and that meant the club night was oin after so we stuck about for that aswell as getting to meet some people from the label, then after we all headed off our seperate ways some of us went back to the hotel and got some booze in and the rest of us went off to a party with some friends from London.

10/02/09
The day of signing.. the world is our.. lobster.
We spent most of the day trying to get our own contract printed out Chris and Welshy went to buy ink and get a printer in order to do it, but that wasn't necessary in the end. We sat in the practice space and were talked through the contract summary by the lawyer over the phone, this took a while, while the karate class downstairs made it impossible to hear, so if we all start wearing jumpsuits and shoes with fishtanks in the heels its not our fault. Then we were told that Geoff our manager and Ellie and Jim from Fiction had arrived in the Toon so we went down to meet them for some food Sarah was on her way from Sheffield contract in hand, we ate a lot of food and managed to get through plenty bottles of wine, the singing shrimp even made an appearance.
The deal was signed by us all underneath the Tyne Bridge here in Newcastle, at the meal Dave decided it'd be a good idea for Jim from Fiction and himself to sign the deal naked under the bridge as this obviously makes it more binding. I'm sure a number of us had already fallen off the perch by this point, we all signed our names then cracked open the champagne F1 style. It was nice having the people who've put so much hard work in to be there when it got signed, and it was nice finally being able to give each other the pat on the back. We drank some champagne, we took some photos then headed off to Geoffs hotel to drink in the bar there.
The person on reception took one look at the clip of us and asked if we were all residents of the hotel, no we weren't we were just commandeering their bar for the next 4 hours or so. Passion fruit Mojitos! Probably enough to fill the hotel pool. Later we parted company with Geoff, Sarah, Jim & Ellie and headed back to Greenies where bottles of vodka just appeared among other things. and there was more of the same deep into the next day during that time Dale managed to crack his head open and cover himself in blood & Dave made a mortal enemy with someone and their dog.
11/02/09/Lincoln - All coming to around 4 o' clock we were all probably woken by the same text saying that we were going to Lincoln to do a recording session and that we should meet at the practice space at 6. I needed to ring myself out like a towel to sober up.
We were going down to record Sunshine People for the next single at the Chapel Studios in Lincoln. Turned up at 6 and saw the van..THE VAN..the van we used to get driven round on our first couple of tours, this van has no windows in the back, nothing seperating you from all your equipment stacked up behind you it has 4 seats between seven people in the van and if the band W.A.S.P were a smell that'd be the smell of this van.. and the side door doesn't work.
So we loaded all the gear downstairs and climbed into the back I sat on a beanbag feeling great. Four hours later we'd lost two toes due to cold, Greenie had developed Trench Foot, Dales head had froze back together, but we were there though. We set about moving all our equipment into the live room straight away, the live room is actually an old chapel we met Rich Wilkinson the producer who we were working with for the 2 days we were down there. We got shown to where we were staying, had a room each Welshy drew the short straw and got the room where an exorcism was once performed.
It was one of the best studios we've been in for a few reasons, the main being theres no distractions except 'Come dine with me' but its out in the sticks so no bars or clubs to sneak off to. Also it had a studio chef she was class, it was probably the best we've all eaten in ages. The recording went really well, there was a good relaxed atmosphere about the studio we got the single done and its out on the 30th of March!
