SUPERNATURALLY YOU!
You poured your potion on my body
you set my soul on fire
when i woke up
i heard a gospal choir
SUPERNATURALLY YOU!
we walked late night through the city
we were the only ones alive
like an old orsen welles movie
on a  summers night
SUPERNATURALLY YOU!
you stopped the traffic
and you waltz with cones
you screamed and told me
you aint never been alone
this was the peak as good as it gets
like morpine music
makes my pain forget
SUPERNATURALLY YOU!
you wear your clothes like an actress
you always hold yourself well
weekends we go cruzing
into a cheap motel
SUPERNATURALLY YOU!
we..ll be standing by the quay
waiting for our ship to come in
nobody will no nothing...nothing
SUPERNATURALLY YOU!
and if I go who..s gonna hold you
who..s gonna be your daddy now
who..s gonna bring you late night cruzing
when your down and out
SUPERNATURALLY YOU!

DANNY DARCY

SUPERNATURALLY YOU’

A native Galwegian, former Real Men frontman Danny Darcy has been living in Spain for the last decade, honing his craft playing nightly gigs in the tourist bars of Majorca. Last year’s Building Churches album received rave reviews, but this dance-influenced track sounds completely different to anything he’s ever done before. Supernaturally great!

danny-darcy.jpgHe may be the best kept secret on the phantom singer- songwriter circuit but here at RedTrack we are well acquainted with the brilliance of former Real Men frontman Mr. Darcy first name Danny. His dedication to the craft and enduring passion for music( only equalled by his lover for Arsenal! ) finds him currently drinking Jagermeister and singing his heart out in Austria. RedTrack spoke to the man himself about the success of Building Churches and current single 'I Need You'.

Danny, I believe you're touring in Austria at the moment, what’s that been like so far?

Tis always great to get work in the early part of the year, this is my first time in Austria...first time to be greeted by the Austrian culture, the contrast between my home in Mallorca and Austria are terrific for so many different reasons, the story is... that I know a couple of people who work in Mallorca and spend there winters in Austria working in Irish bars, anyways a mate of mine Ray McDaid from Tyrone called me and asked me would I be into a couple of weeks gigging in an Irish bar called O Malley’s in Niedarau, anyways the gig in 90 minutes every night, performing to all sorts, get a free hotel room and grub plus cash, so I've no complaints, I rechristened Niedarau "Jagiville"...the amounts of Jagimeister be drank out here is by far paramount in a Quinten Tarintino/Tom Waits sort of way, there's this bar up in the mountains where there are 3 doors in the pub, two are toilets and one is a door leeding into a Cow barn...man the smell is unreal.

Building Churches got a really good response and some great reviews. It was only your second solo album aswell, so do you think it got your music out there they way you wanted it to?

I've always found my life full off irony, I find sometimes I was born to late but I also realise that this world I live in gives me far more independence than any other time off my life. The so called "Irish Music Scene"..can be by far more frustrated than anything in my life, I can't play the roll of 100% songwriter who totally believes in his music..it comes second in my life,I'm a married man close on 11 years and have two kids 7 and 9 this year, moneys got to earned for my mortgage my kids education and a couple of pints on the weekend, I find everytime I release my music I kinda just drop out of the sky land in Galway or Dublin and start this whole process of trying to get some airplay...i.e, "Hiya I'm Danny I've just released", ......blah blah blah, Building Churches was an album I composed, recorded and released totally self financed and then drove around the country putting into shops...driving back 3 weeks later trying to pick up my money only to be told the boss isn't here...he broke his wrist playing badmington...blah blah,...I know everybody in the music world will say ..."we did too"..but I realise songwriting is a very selfish kinda occupation, It's kinda like a guy selling a painting on the side of the street and telling People ..what ya think?....I haven't a clue which way the industry will go...how can itunes expect to charge 99cent for one song..when all you got to do is press return key on a computer and download it free, the only way music can be downloaded legally is if downloading services charge 5cent a song...this means you are 100% guarenteed a non-virus track,It also activates a younger clintal who may be able to purchase tracks through mobile phone credit, music is far to expensive at the moment.Building Churches was composed and released really to lay alot of demons in my own life, just to lay that pimple on the arse of rock n roll society... but on a more positve point, through the myspace site I have received alot a support from People who purchased my album through CD world online.

The albums been out a while now and you also released 'I Need You' are there any other plans for new material?

"I need you" was a pleasure to record,Colin Preston my producer has worked with me on and off for nearly ten years,I was lucky to hit the ground running by meeting him first all those years ago,we have a terrific working relationship...he is also like me a very independent person,we both could sit in his recording studio for 20 hours a day without saying as much as a "yea....hmmm...not to sure"...I have total faith in him and visa versa,"I need you was wrote on the road last year why'll touring "Building Churches"...I find my best songs always come after you release an album...as the mind is not under any preasure ...you have no deadline...and all the deadwood from the last 12 months has been laid to rest...leaving your mental hard-drive freeing up alot off memory space in the mind,As for new material...I'm still not finished with "Building Churches"..I'm a big "Blue Nile" fan ..and as we know the release an album every 8 years...I mean Gun n Roses took 15 years...this summer I plan to release "Barcelona Sky" as part of a 4 track e.p...I'm flying to Mallorca to record a video...fingers crossed this might activate a bit more direction in my career...in the future..I've already composed around 12 new songs...One of the tunes is a song dedicated to Joe Strummer from the Clash...It's called "Rockabilly Hero"....the idea is to start recording the next album after this coming Summer..so far the idea is to call it "Cash and Prizes"...just trying to leave a bit of positivity in this credit cruch world.

What artists are you currently listening to, anything thats inspiring you at the moment?

On my ipod I always have a section off tunes which are under the heading "First Eleven"..this is a list of my top songs which I perceive as a football team...could be a midweek gig..might need a bit of a lift and throw some Nick Cave into the midfield line,Or I might be getting ready for a night out so I might sub Nick Cave and replace him with a bit of Steely Dan why'll I'm shaving,Since I've been in Austria all I seem to see is snow,it brings out different elements in the mind and body, totally baked mentality...some days I go hiking...2 feet of snow and a ipod...as for whats inspiring me at the moment...I got Lisa Hanigans album..tis pretty picturest stuff...."Lille" is aa amazing tune,There's also a terrifc Nashville singer/songwriter called Matthew Ryan...he's a breath of fresh-air..I find his stuff very last of a dying breath sort of stuff,As for anything else...I've been listening to The Blue Niles "Family Life" alot lately...tis a beautiful piece of work,Just another one aswell. as for my new striker..Tom Waits "Martha" at this very moment in my life is by far the best player in my first eleven...as for everyones favourite at the moment..hey..what can I say ...Kings of Leon...top band...I'd also like to mention I listen to a lot of comedy..directs the mind in such a positive way...at the moment Dane Cook (american comedian)makes me laugh so much...man It's so important to laugh..believe me..tis the cure of all demons.

Was it a shock to be voted RedTrack songwriter of the year?

By far an above shock...it means alot...it's a pleasure to see other People in the music world investigating someone elses work with a fine toothcomb,It means more then any amount of money in the world,It's kinda like getting a good grade in School after you studied so hard....It keep's me extra positve..a sign of good man management...guarentees me activation on something I've wanted to do all my life...success lasts in my mind for 2 seconds...but it took 12 months to reach that 2 seconds, you say to yourself...welldone Dan...now lets put that one to bed and try and better it the next time.

Any plans to come back touring in Ireland this year?

I love Ireland,it will always be home..the Darcy name is one off the 12 tribes in Galway and my heritge leads all the way back to them,As for the footie I was thrilled to see Mervue United reach the league of Ireland beating Kildare in a play off. My Grandfather Heyceith Darcy (my dads father) was on the original board of 6 People who formed the club in 1960..so I'd love ta watch there first game in the coming season,I gigging in Spain for a couple of months...the plan for November is to hit the States in a camper van with some close mates and back to Austria for another dose of Jagiville..as for gigging in Ireland...I had some great gigs in Cork,Offaly and Mayo and couple of months ago...the must ironic thing is I find Galway (my home town)the must hardest place to pull crowds or get any airplay...but I'm not complaining...I totally understand that I live in an above pleasurable world...and the only thing I can complain about are the black marks every day I wake up...due to pinching myself just to prove that I'm still alive.
I'm gonna see how "Barcelona Sky" does when I release it early May...I've got so much faith in the song...just gotta prove it one more time,I'd like to thank you ever so much Rob for all the kind things Redtrack have said about me over the last 18 months,It means alot.Cheers Danny

Austria-a-go go,always handy to get some gigs during the early part off the year, helps pay off some bills from last years backlog..this year I've been contracted to an Irish bar in a small town in Austria called Niederau.for a couple of weeks, the bar is called O' Malleys..my contract also consists off free accomadation and grub in a near by hotel..this new regimental life is all new to me,Breakfast is just a coffee and a toastie for me..I perform an apre gig at 4pm every day for an hour...the clintal are all skiers..from all around the world,I do a couple of my own tunes with a mixture of covers...the big tune at the moment is the Killers “Human”..tis a top tune and it makes the gig a bit easier...dinner is served at 6.30pm...different menu every day..tonight is “Stir Fry” night..I spent my free time listening to the Radio on the internet...BBC radio 5 “up all night” is one of my favourite shows on the wireless..Sking is not for me..can't afford an injury..Niederau is a very small town..tis proberly the size of the “Eastenders”(English soap opera...could never understand why the word soap is in that statement????) set...you keep bumping into the same People around twenty times a day...There's some nice small bars around town..some days I jump on the gondala which travels to the top of the mountain..a couple of us just bake out on Jagimeister on a beach seat..wrapped up in warm clothes as some times the weather can get as cold as -22 degrees..a far contrast from my home in sunny Mallorca...the night time gig kicks off at 9pm every night for an hour and a half...tis more of a rock gig..the crowd seem always to be up for it...saying that,If People wanted to leave the gig it would proberly take them an hour to put there coats, jumpers and scarfs back on....after the gig I have a couple of pints to winde down..straight back to the hotel (in a Graham Taylor accent)..”put the feet up and watch da tellee”..my wife and kids were over for the last 2 weeks..we all had a blast...trying hard to get back into my original routine...miss the noise and the evening chats...hence the blog....Been watching a lot of Dane Cook a lot online...watched the new Clint Eastwood flick, also Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler..good flicks.,I go for walks during the day listening to my ipod..Joni Mitchells "woodstock" makes a great spiritual combination when the whole town and local Church are covered in snow...thats all my news for the moment..talk to ye soon...man it's cold out there....Danny
