I am very proud to announce that our official online store...the one I've been obsessively working on for the last couple of months...is now open for business. I've made our prices the best on this globe for our stuff, and I believe this is the most important online marketing tool we have. We don't have to refer our readers to Amazon or any other online store, because not only do all of us get the royalties we deserve from this store more than any place else, but we provide better promotion on your personal pages and additional revenue with merchandise to keep us up and running. We're already receiving orders, and I'd like for all of you to assist me in promoting this store like there's no tomorrow. For BBS authors, please check out your individual pages....check out the whole site and let me know what you think, or if you have any questions. All of you who have been trying to get a hold of me recently, I've been obsessed with this project and now that it's done you'll be hearing from me soon. After the holidays, we all have a lot of work to do. The official store site can be found at our homepage, but more precisely at http://blackbedsheet.goshopper.net . We are currently working on receiving orders worldwide, but postage calculations have restricted us to US and Australia orders until we figure that out. On the site, we are open for worldwide orders but international customers must contact us first for those postage calculations. I'm extremely proud of having finally done this. There are good reasons why it took so long, but here we are, and whereas most other small press publishers have day jobs, this is all I do, day after day after day after day, so because my living depends on it, and because otherwise I'd be homeless and would have to do all the daily hours it takes for me to keep all this up and running at internet cafes after standing on street corners holding signs, I'm always 100%. Rest assurred, I'm working my ass off for the greater good, each and every day for long hours. I practically have no other life. So let's get to it, to promote this puppy, with success to all of us involved. To everyone else, this is the best damn underground independent online book store around, with all original titles and merchandise for sale at unbelieveable prices. Please check us out! And again, HAPPY HOLIDAYS. THE BLACK BED SHEET BOOK STORE---Nicholas Grabowsky www.downwarden.com/blackbedsheethttp://blackbedsheet.goshopper.netwww.twitter.com/blackbedsheet

THE BLACK BED SHEET/DIVERSE COMPENDIUM NEWSLETTER November 2009 All things Grabowsky and then some..... Hiya, all......a lot of cool things happening over here, so let's get started. But in a nutshell, BBS has about 50 authors signed currently, our 2010 lineup is almost full (including cook books from Hell's Kitchen alumni an other awesome chefs, and our Banana Phone line of children's books), and the 16 titles we have available now (with Fred Wiehe's "Holiday Madness" rounding out our 2009 titles) have been compiled into BBS' official Book Store Winter Catalog which includes special discounts for all, this holiday season, when ordering books directly from BBS (see below). Check out our site for several new BBS-related videos and trailers. You'll find more up to the minute news on the site and at www.twitter.com/blackbedsheet. So now let's get started: 1. OUR BOOK STORE WINTER CATALOG 2009-2010: Download directly from our homepage ( www.downwarden.com/blackbedsheet). It lists our 2009 lineup with special direct-to-bookstore prices these places can't find if they order through our many distributors, called "Bookstore Direct." If any of my authors have ordered copies of their own books directly from me, yes, these are the same prices that I provide to you. The only difference is that when book stores order at these prices, you get your standard royalties. I'd like to encourage our authors to read the works of our other authors, so as BBS authors each of you can also order one anothers' books directly from me at these prices. When you order each other's books, the authors whose books you order also get standard royalties from those orders as well. And we're talking prices that are around 60% off retail in most cases. I think that's damn cool, and just in time for the Holidays! Also, I'm proud to announce that BBS now accepts major credit cards for these orders. For those who aren't BBS authors or book store reps, please inquire for special prices direct as well....we are working on making it possible for anyone to order our books directly off our site now that we do credit cards, details soon. ( Those of you receiving this email directly have the winter catalog attached.) 2. TITLES FOR 2010/SUBMISSIONS: We're not publishing any further titles this year, and not accepting any more submissions until January, which is when I'll expect to be making more decisions along those lines. I'm concentrating on marketing what I have available already. However, next year's going to be an exciting one with titles already lined up in plenty of time for Spring: BLOOD ORCHARD by S.D. Hintz, THE RAISING by Cassandra Lee, CHOPHOUSE by Terry "Horns" Erwin, ...HUMAN NATURE...by Matthew Ewald, MEAT CITY & OTHER STORIES by Jason M. Tucker, IN THE BEGINNING by Cinsearae Santiago, plus works by Eric Enck, Jake Istre, and current authors returning for more. And yes, next year we're doing cook books including one with contributions by some brow-raising celebrity talent in the field, and BANANA PHONE BOOKS is emerging with THE ASHES OF MAY, 1000 SMELLS, and other innovations kids and adults will love. 3. BESTSELLERS AS OF NOVEMBER: Forrest J Ackerman's Anthology of the Living Dead; Demon Revolver; The Gentle Art of Making Enemies; The Butcher Bride. 4. KUDOS: to our author Matthew Ewald, who was recently awarded the the role of young James T. Kirk on the award winning internet television series " Star Trek: Phase II." Matthew previously played a major role in the popular FOX KIDS television show " Galidor" and co-starred in 2002's " Terminal Error." JASON GEHLERT has a video interview at veteran horror host Count Gore De Vol's website: www.countgore.com with other BBS author interviews to follow. Kudos also to Vince Churchill who made the front page of Jacksonville IL's Journal-Courier's entertainment guide with his " Butcher Bride," and to A Shot in the Dark Comics for delivering awesome preliminary artwork for their " Nicholas Grabowsky's Red Wet Dirt" comic book series due to grace stores with its first issue this Spring! And let's not forget Norm Applegate's script contribution to director J.L. Botelho's upcoming silent violent short (details at www.blogtalkradio.com/francy). Jake Istre was also on Good Day Sacramento just the other day..... 5. NICHOLAS GRABOWSKY STUFF: Thanks to Eve Blaack at Hacker's Source Magazine (www.eveblaackpub.com) and Shriek Freak Quarterly (www.shriekfreak.com) for their excellent reviews of RED WET DIRT. THE EVERBORN is now available in a special hardcover edition from our favorite publisher, BBS. Groovy cool. I've resumed putting together a full-length script for CUTTING EDGES so I can finally get the film ready for pre-production. I'm going to announce my touring schedule soon, with England or bust (World Horror Convention). Going to be with author Kristi Caye at SacCon December 13th. 6. PROMOTIONS/BANNERS: I'm encouraging our authors to feel free to copy/paste the official BBS banner (found on the bottom of the homepage), link it back and flaunt it on your web presence. I'm in the process of creating specific website banners to promote each of your books, and I'll let you know individually when yours is ready. Also, I have an book mark version of our banner with our winter titles on the flip side, BBS t-shirts, etc, if interested send me an email. 6. HWA/AWARDS/REVIEWERS: We are currently offering to HWA members, book reviewers, and awards affiliates up to three PDFs of our titles FOR FREE! Please inquire at downwarden@earthlink.net 7. FRANCY WEATHERMAN NEWS: I flew to South Carolina and brought her back to Sacramento with me to stay, and we're making wedding plans for next year. Talk about there being a reason for everything. Francy, of course, is the host of the mega-popular blogtalk radio show Francy & Friends ( www.blogtalkradio.com/francy), presented by Triad Pictures. Some of her recent guests include Jeff Conaway, Vicki Lizzi, David Fostino, Coren Nemec, Tommy Grand, Hell's Kitchen alumni, Norm Applegate, and also myself. Listeners have ranged from Billy Bob Thorton to President Obama himself. She's also a film major :) That's all for now, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL! ---Nicholas Grabowsky owner/founder/publisher Black Bed Sheet Books Diverse Media ....

A novel-length sequel to "The Yuletide Thing," a short story originally published by Doorways magazine and is a part of my recent collection "Red Wet Dirt," (which is also being turned into a comic book by Shot in the Dark Comics), is going to have a novel-length sequel, "The Ashes of May." It's going to go hand in hand with the mythology of the Roseville Witch as portrayed in my Diverse Tales story "The Rose Hole" and will be the centerpiece of a story in a trilogy which begins with "The Downwardens," where a Southern California man moves to Sacramento to solve his sister's death, and then to "The Sirens of Knowland" where the man moves to Roseville and into "Rose Hole" lore, and "The Ashes of May" will delve more profoundly with the creature in "Yuletide" where a little boy and his father overcome all odds in a climate full of terrible things waiting for them around every dark corner in a world full of lies and hatred, broken homes, and evil community park gnomes.
"The Everborn" is scheduled for re-release as a special edition hardcover early Fall '09, and a sequel's a-comin' after I get the Downwardens/Ashes of May thing off my back.
I'm pulling together a music CD with local bands doing original songs based on "Red Wet Dirt" stories, with a "Yuletide Thing" composition I'm writing myself and may do lead vocals, as well as a song I composed in 1988 titled "Mommy and Daddy" and another called "The Difference Between Darn and Damn."
I have a children's book coming out in January called "Chocolate Chimp Nipples and Banana Phones" that I announced a few weeks ago on the BBS site and on radio, and "The Cat That Ate Meow."
By August first, I'll have ten BBS titles on the market, and by September 1st, four more. By the year's end, that'll jump to twenty-five to thirty, with about sixty signed authors. Wooo......hooooo.
Lastly, by the time "Cutting Edges" becomes a comic book, I'll already have my directing spot for filming it in the palm of my hand.
Good things are on their way for this here.....whatever I am these days......
Blessings and peace to all, ---Nick

Why World Autism Day is a Personal Thing for Me Carol Grabowsky was my sister and only sibling, and she was autistic. Born in 1964, she was two years older than me, and although we had great times together growing up, I never was as close to her as, say, friends I grew up with, because there was this disconnection I never could quite put a finger on. I wish, looking back, I could have spent more one-on-one time with her, wish I could have thought more to take a day of the week off to take her somewhere, to a park, the beach, a movie, out to eat, just her and I, but I never spent that kind of time with her that I feel I could have, looking back. In 1995, Carol was taken from her school around lunchtime and we never saw her again. Six months later, two kids came across her skeleton in a drainage ditch not far from the school. I miss her very much. Now, all this time later, I have a son named Charlie. To date, he's four and a half years old. He's autistic too. I love him dearly. For some strange reason, probably because he's the way he is, I feel like when I'm spending time with him, I'm spending time with my sister, too, and all the horror and loss I've felt with losing Carol melts away with every minute I spend with Charlie. Just thought I'd share this, and in doing so I'd like to stress how important it is that we all take just a little time out of the year to think about autism, how it affects us, and what we can do about it. To date, 67 million people worldwide are in the autism spectrum. What can you do? Make a small donation to organizations like www.autismspeaks.org . I'm also donating a percentage towards autism research from every copy of RED WET DIRT sold, even though I don't advertise that I do. Spread the word. best, Nick (I have a page devoted to Carol at http://www.downwarden.com/Carol%20Jean%20Grabowsky.htm )

TO ALL HORROR READERS, AS WELL AS WRITERS, AND TO EVERYONE
We’ve all got something to sell and news to tell:
BLACK BED SHEET/DIVERSE COMPENDIUM NEWSLETTER: FEB 2009.... All things Grabowsky and then some.....
“Nick’s writings is smells.”
---something a serious meth abuser once told me in front of a karaoke bar, after he convinced me he had read one of my late ‘80’s horror paperbacks, and I asked him for a blurb of praise if I offered him a cigarette. I don’t know what it means, but it’s funny..... ____________________________________________________________________....
Something to sell:....
RED WET DIRT, folks…..it’s brand-spanking new and kick-ass. Its price is economy-sensitive. It’s available everywhere. I’m very proud of it. Given the chance, I’d shove it all down your throats and you’d thank me for it afterwards, each of you, and shower me with wows, to which I’d respond by putting out another newsletter and thanking you for making it worth all that time of drinking and chain smoking. You should see the trailer if you haven’t yet. I’m also putting together a CD of Red Wet Dirt-inspired music performed by independent bands. This release and the upcoming special edition of The Everborn are what I’ll be pushing this year, and I’ll be spreading it on thick. Both are the best I’ve ever written. Like, in my life.
What’s RED WET DIRT? Introducing three short stories & three novellas: While on vacation, a young man's fiancé becomes a heart-collecting Yuletide Thing on Christmas Eve. Get stuck in traffic when The Freeway Reaper claims another soul. A suburban family is plagued by a horde of were-rats. Special Agent Sam Cross, mortally wounded by a Jamaican specter, journeys into a psychedelic Festival of Fallen Souls in search of a supernatural healer whose lover's touch brings in contrast instant death. A legendary flesh eater arrives on the shores of an ancient Minoan city, infecting its population, beginning with a teenage boy's father who's summoned by the pompous king to become an undead garbage disposal. In Red Afterworld, an ex juvenile preacher gets his childhood wish of becoming a vampire when he's recruited into a male-only biker fraternity and finds himself one of the few survivors of global nuclear war, discovers a time portal in the Arizona desert with the hope of saving the world, and finds true love. Including extra minor works from the author's youth and the short screenplay Cutting Edges, the basis for an upcoming film and the author's directorial debut, Red Wet Dirt is to die for and is destined to become a classic way beyond its genre!....
-----so says the description that’s going around, taken from the back of the book. _________________________________________________________________

To all horror writers, large and small, big press, small press, even smaller press, self-published, not even published at all:
In my youth, my dad would every once in awhile take me fishing off any given pier in the Pacific Ocean off Southern CA.....Newport, Huntington, a few others. He'd wake me up super early, we'd salvage enough twinkies and sandwiches to fill an Igloo, get our bait, drive, find a nice spot amongst the other fisher people there doing what we were about to do, and then cast our lines and do it.............sitting there for hours trying to catch something, among countless others doing the same thing, rooting for one of us that brought in something big, wowing over the guy with his little daughter who caught something so tiny they threw it back but nonetheless it was still quite a spectacle....it was all a thrilling experience for me. A couple of times, we caught a nice one. Other times, somebody else did, and it was bigger than mine and others took photographs. Some talked about the big ones that got away, and you could never really know for sure if they were telling the truth. One time, a fight broke out between two of the fisher people, and I had to move out of their path. I forgot what happened with that; either they settled their differences, had to be escorted out, or just stayed away from each other. I guess it didn't matter....if they didn't cease to exist sometime afterwards, they had to still be fishing, somewhere, eventually, if that's what they love to do.
The way I see it, from within the industry and without, down to the smallest aspiring horror writer, from the Kings to the Keenes to the most noble amongst us down to the guy in Nebraska who's horror's biggest fan but just can't get past chapter number three in his hoped-for debut novel, we're all of us fishing on a pier with a box full of twinkies and some bait we hope will catch us a big one. Maybe you catched a big one already, maybe you have a long history of award-winning big ones we all love or aspire towards, maybe you're constantly asking those who caught a big one just what bait they used. We've all had our lines in the water, all sitting at that very long pier doing what we strive to do best, and as far as I'm concerned we're all in this together, trying to do the same goddamn thing.
Write horror. And hope people like it.
Maybe you're not serious enough, and you'd just as well take your fishing pole and go home to something more suitable to what you really want, towards a direction in your life just as noteable. I'm talking to the ones who want to stay, as well as to the ones who have stayed there and done very well for themselves.....
We're all on the same pier, always fishing, fishing for that first one, fishing for more, and it's a long-ass pier. Let's make this pier the best fucking pier the book industry has ever seen, turn it into the 2-plus bookcase section at Barnes & Noble the horror section well deserves and hasn't seen for a long time, turn the genre on its heels and make the reading public love us. There's desire for it. There are many people out there who love horror and just won't read. Let's change that. Let's nurture each other for the love of horror and its written word, and embrace each other in this art form and set aside any differences you may have, speak to the public in one loud, clear, decadent voice.
We will take over.
And who am I? Nothing really but just another fisherman. And I embrace all of you others. I'm a horror writer, and I'm damn proud of being so. No matter what else I've done, I've been a horror writer all of my life, as fate would have it, and will die being one. Every last one of you suit my cause and are my kin.
Let's support each other.
Peace.
---Nick
